  • whats with the announcer!? wasnt that thing full of NAZIS anyways?!

  • That news presenter lol

  • This "mystery" was solved 2 months after the tragedy. Hydrogen did not cause the disaster. The outer cover which was poorly coated caused it. The hydrogen did fuel it however after the outer coating's fire made the structural integety of the ship poor enough, the hydrogen did escape and fuel the remaining fire. But, if the ship had been using any other gas, it still would have caught fire. Hydrogen is the future gas to be used in many things.

  • that's what proponents of the skin theory want you to think - that hydrogen is safe enough to use without problems.Tests have shown it would be impossible for the skin to be ignited through static sparks. Addison Bain cheated by using a continuous electrical machine inconsistent with atmospheric conditions. And what the German scientists really concluded was the outer skin was a poor conductor and caused a spark to jump inside into a piece of metal and ignite hydrogen.

  • @PahangDragonbird Very interesting! I never knew that, do you have a source? I would really like to learn more about this!

  • well this was pretty much what A.J. Dessler, D.E.Overs and William Appleby said in their papers. They found some flaws with the paint theory. It may be possible (though I think it's very low chance) that the skin ignited first, but the Hydrogen would have ignited right after. If Helium was used the Hindenburg would have been saved because the fire would be so slow. airships.net has some good information about this. as for the conductivity, see Harold Dick's book Golden Age of Passenger AIrships.

  • @PahangDragonbird I stand corrected thus far. Thanks for the info, I'll check it out!

  • @DemonDrummer1018 another thing is Addison Bain, views hydrogen as completely blameless, which is utterly ridiculous when you see it clearly burning in the footage. (hydrogen burns invisibly, but it was coloured by the combustible stuff around it.

  • i like death, in fact, i hope to die some day

  • This should've sent a clear message to Hitler - attempting to land a Nazi aircraft on American soil is SUICIDE!

  • She made 2 sharp turns, and these caused 2 bracing wires to snap, ripping holes in Cell #4. Long story short, DON'T TURN SOMETHING THAT BIG TOO SHARPLY!!!

  • Oh the Humanity... one of the most famous phases ever uttered.

  • I sure hope he wasn't referring to the Piasecki PA97 heavy lifter.

Look up "blimp crash" here on youtube,it should come up first.

It crashed horribly at the same airfield as the Hindenburg decades later.

    Not because of hydrogen-

rather,it was so over-complicated and powered by 4 separate helicopters.

Hydrogen was really a disaster waiting to happen,

as far as the Hindenburg was concerned.

All it would take is one spark in the wrong place.

    A bomb was not necessary.

  • @jetpoweredgriffin Actually it wasn't the hydrogen that was the reason the air ship burned so fast, The Mythbusters did a show on this, it it is known fact that the paint used to coat the fabric covering the airships frame contained a very volatile,,explosively flammable, ingredient, he hydrogen helped of course.

  • @RC Well,if Mythbusters said it.... They were by no means the first to consider it. The envelope material was irrelevant. They hydrogen was the greater danger. If the lifting gas had been helium, they could have landed safely- the helium would have escaped slowly but would not have burned at all. The skin material accelerated the inevitable. The air inside would have been consumed quickly even if the skin had been non-flammable. I was more focusing on the PA-97,an even worse concept. Peace•
  • BOOM!
