  • Will all of you experts shut up and enjoy the awesome?

  • Are any of you guys actually tankers? I was. BTW the APFSDS stands for Armor-Piercing, Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot. Get it? The sabot breaks away from the penetrator and is discarded.

  • It not a HEAT round. A HEAT round is flat on top. Google global security 120 mm tank rounds

  • Thats a HEAT guys , not a APFSDS .... the APFSDS is smaller and actually has something called the sabot . that is either invisible or does not exist in this example

  • High speed camera.

  • how did the camera move that fast when it was at regular speed

  • CHUCK NORRIS CAMERA WORK XD

  • 1. Ammo separation

    2. APFSDS

    3. Auto camera, too fast for human.

    4. Whole thing spinning

  • I have a few questions:

1.Whats the explosion that happens on the projector several "seconds" out in the movie?

2.What type of ammo is this? and what does it do?

    3. Is that one hell of a camaraman? or is the projectile realy a fat slow flying duck?

4.it looks like only half the projectile is spinning- is that also the ral case?

  • now that's what i call a fast cameraman

  • .org

  • look it up at global security

  • Plus, it's not "a very dense metal" it's depleted uranium. Holy crap. I certainly hope that the people responding to this aren't actual tankers (like me) because if you are, you suck. Enough with the dis-information.

  • Google Sabot round and.......wait for it.........guess what pops up!

  • Actually, there is a SABOT round. Also a HEAT round and an MPAT round. HEAT is high explosive anti tank and MPAT is multipurpose anti tank. I should know since I recently retired from the US Army after spending 20+ years inside a tank and firing hundreds if not thousands, of each kind of tank round. By the way, APFSDS stands for armor-piercing-fin-stabilized-discarding-sabot. Thanks.

  • Yes, it's a SABOT round.

  • @vjiocco no... there's not really a thing such called a "SABOT round", there's an APFSDS, which is a round which HAS a SABOT... and this isn't one of them an APFSDS is very thin, much thinner than this round, and they DISCARD their sabot, which does not take place in this video... they are about the dimensions of a scaled up pencil, with fins attached to the end, and made of very dense, very strong metals, such as tungsten, or uranium, so that they will go through metal, and wreck havoc...

  • @nigleman lol chally 2's use a sabot that discards most of the casing to impart energy to the penetrator so yeah there is such a thing as a sabot , hence UK tank commanders yelling "sabot" for a tank killer ........ I was in the REME mate seen plenty of the things and the damage they cause :) ever been in the regs mate ? I think not :)

  • @vjiocco~ this is not a SABOT round!

  • Is this a SABO round? I imagined they'd be a lot thinner than that.

  • @movietow no, you're right, this isn't one, and they are a lot thinner than this... plus, they are made out of a single SOLID piece of very dense metal, and this quite obviously is more complicated than that, with folding fins and what not, and most likely a warhead on the end...

  • How do you video tape a round like that? Because don't rounds usually go, in lament's terms... REALLY FAST?

  • I meant the sabot separating from the penetrator.

  • The stabilizer fins peeling away.

  • what is that exploding around the projectile at about 0:14 ?

  • WTF!!!!

  • Look at that O at the begining

  • u know ur screwed when u see that coming at you

  • @IP633 well.. you can't be too screwed for having super high speed ninja vision if you can see that coming..

  • wtf??? howt they doit that?????

  • no, your wrong there to the german and the m1a2 use to different type of cannons, look it up now i did

  • @hotrod4you2 Nope, he is right. Both Abrams and leopard uses the same 120mm smoothbore gun.

It's called "Rheinmetall 120 mm gun" Check it out at wiki

  • thats a armor piercing dummy round the smal explosion after it was fireing was it goin trough a wal or armor plate so there isnt a explosion

  • I wanna see a target of this projectile! It is fucking shit video...

  • Awesome video, but how did that camera keep up with that missile as it flew by? It was turning in perfect unison with the speed of missile coming by?

  • @InsaneBurrito45 It doesn't a really flat mirror does the moving!

  • it's a u.s army missile fired from a m1a2 mbt, the same type the russians uses called reflex, u.s army should incorperate this tech in the NEXT m1a2/ M1A2/A MODEL with a new barrle and fire control, but our will be much better, the russ use missile because of the lack of long range fire control systems

  • @aarondhp20 Then perhaps you can tell me better: what is the exact type of shell is being used here? Is that a HEAT round? Also by fastest laser targetting system, do you mean the system that operates the laser or the laser itself? Since laser is light and we know how fast light travels? :D

  • Comment removed

  • @aarondhp20 Know the whole thing that you said. Except the .5-1.5 sec firing solution time. Thanks for the details though. Although have to say, isn't that all about processing power and program of a system as oppose to awasome technological advancement that we have faster firing solution? Just curious.

  • @aarondhp20 The APFSDS "arrow" has a much smaller diameter than the barrel from which it is fired, in this video it's almost the same size, the other problem is that the projectile is spinning, and spin reduces the armour penetration of the sabot. Fins on the APFSDS are fixed and don't deploy (the fins in the video have greater diameter than the barrel). Either you lied about being in the army, or you really suck at your job. So either enlist or learn something about your job....

  • @aarondhp20 Not to be the grammar nazi but you spelt 'retarded' wrong...

  • @MisterLEM0NS And you spelled "spelled" wrong...

  • I wanna see a target of this projectile! It is fucking shit video...

  • @aarondhp20 Depends on which type of Leopard 2, the older models yes but not the newest ones (A5/A6) which use the L55. M1 Abrams use the M256, which is a license built copy of the older L44.

  • @randomusernamemygod

True but considering this video was uploaded in 2008 I would wager it's probably the older variant. Can't be sure without seeing the hull, but thank you for the good info.

  • @hotrod4you2 .... no , its a KE ( how we tankers say in germany , it stands for Kinetic Energy )

  • @WannerPanzer no its a missile

  • nice dude

  • the best is the ring of dust or whatever at 0:03 :D

  • @TheTrackmaniafreak It's a shockwave of condensed air. It gets compressed into a visible ring.

  • @adrastea99

Lol all that bla bla bla bla for a stupid MRM X-ROD munition go troll some place else! Lolololol

  • take THAT in your balls

  • I wanted to see the blast

  • @locoawise Its a KE-Shel.... no blast

  • One mother fuckin good camera man

  • its a A.P.F.S.D.S. (Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot) Or Sabot for Short.

and its a 120mm Smooth Bore Gun that also fires the H.E.A.T. (High Explosive Anti-Tank)

  • @darkmastersamurai

    No its NOT.

Its a MRM-KE called X-Rod. Mediun Range Munition-Kinetic Energy for use in BLOS Beyond Line of Sight aplications. It uses a GPS to help reach the target with accuracy and has a propelent to reach supersonic speed. It ignite when the video ends, but you can see this munition in Future Weapons series.

btw is fired from a 120mm smoothbore 250m cannon. Not an 105mm.

  • @fruchttragend

hmmm, i guess i was wrong, idk about this new shit, i was in an old school tank unit 2-70th Armor in Ft. Riley Kansas, Which is now 1-63 CAB, all our NCO's Are Old school tankers that all got action in desert storm

  • @darkmastersamurai

No prob mate, my respects for a veteran!!!

    Peace men.

  • i hope is not shooting at mee.

  • this is a sabo round right

  • the barrel is not rifled, it is smooth. the fins are what make it spin. i know because its my job. i am a m1a1 armor crewman for the US ARMY

  • @armoredadam1 Well thanks for your service then!

  • @armoredadam1 whats your highest degree in school? just checking

  • @armoredadam1 awsome i'm from belgium and i'm 12 i love the m1a1 abram

i really love to be a tank commander.

what did you need to do to pass?

  • @armoredadam1

    I thought the M1 could have a smoothbore 120mm or a rifled 105mm?

  • @Gunslinger145

The M1 had a rifled 105 using brass casings... the m1a1 had a 120mm smoothbore that used a combustable cellulose/paper casing. the m1a1 and a2 variants are what our forces use today.

  • @armoredadam1

If you are a crewman for US ARMY, can you tell me please, what kind of munition is this one. I know it's a BLOS supersonic rocket propeled munition. But what is his name? Thanks

  • i know i sound liek a jackass, but...how does the round spin?

  • The barrel is riffled which makes it spin therefore more acurate.

Also there are little fins to keep its spinning ( again, more acurate)

  • the M1A2 is smooth Bore not rifled

  • Don't sweat it- its not a silly quesiton.

The barrels have cuts inside, the cuts are called "rifling" and it imparts a spin to bullets, missles or rockets- black powder weapons spin about 1 in 48" or so, 308 bullet spins about 1 in 12 inches, the M16/M4 round is about 1 turn in 8" or so

  • is it 125mm gun?

  • 120 mm smooth bore

  • i wish i was a rocket....

  • What us that explosion at 0:14?

  • M1A1 fires a APFSDS-T discarding sabot "anti-tank" shell, with the "sabots" seen peeling away shortly after the 120mm shell leaves the barrel. The smaller, 12 pound, 40mm penetrator thus travels at a higher speed (up to 5,000 feet per second), and can penetrate more armor when it hits an enemy tank. The high speed round hits its target with force equal to an eleven ton truck hitting something at a speed of 112 kilometers an hour.

  • that round in the video isnt a apfsds though.

Probably a HEAT round, fired from a rifled cannon, with driving bands to prevent the warhead spinning. The apfsds penetrator doesnt spin like that, nor does it have a break away fuse at 0:14

  • a heat round is totally different and doesnt have a penetrator

  • @armoredadam1 if you're saying that's a APFSDS round, then where's the breakaway sabot?

  • according to a nother video its a peace to make the round more snugg in the barrol and when it leaves the barrol it breaks off to reduce wind friction

  • wow, i didnt notice the first time i saw this but holy shit how the hell did the camera man follow a tank round through the air for so long. thats skills.

  • the camera was sitting still the whole time the round was being shot.

they use digital high speed cameras.

the camera was sitting really far away and after it was done recording they went in and zoomed on it with a computer.

my uncle told me about this. he was in the navy for like 20 some years and he helped test new missiles.

  • wow cool

  • No first they take the speed of the bullet and then give it into a computer. with a mirror who move they film it. (bad english)

  • You can also see thât the rocket passes very near the bullet. if the camera was far away you cant see the bullet from front and a bit from behind. the mirror is shaking a bit at the end of video. why should they zoom with a cam and at end shake the screen?

  • are u fucking stupid? how did u though that someone could trace a round? jesus...it's a remote controlled camera with a motor, programed to turn at the speed and direction of the round being fired....

  • wow, youre so smart. thank god the internet has you to spread your wealth of knowledge and correct people's mistakes

  • happy I helped then :P

  • Dude, chill- not everyone is technically savvy.

Besides did you notice the black and white painted rectangles on the round? It wasn't a regular round, it was one specifically designed for tracking by camera to count RPM's and to give specific measurements on accuracy and impact

  • that was AWSUM!

y did it stop tho? at the end

i wanted to see an impact :(

  • don't know.

  • @cularkousbintus Thats as far as the camera could pan I think.
