  • does the bolt on joint ever get in the way? how about the lack of a tone knob? Seriously thinking about these beauties

  • @coolmega33 No not really. It's very much like a strat type joint but you'll get used to it. I never use a tone knob so it didn't really matter much to me. I would definitely suggest getting one of these. I believe, as of now they have stopped manufacturing the USA versions and are strictly Japan models. The Japanese models are just as good as the USA ones. However, if you find a USA model, grab it. Don't hesitate. These beauties will be worth money some day. Good luck!

  • @BT71guitar Yes your right the US models will be worth money but so will the first release of the Japan Pro Mods. I wasn't fortunate enough to get a US made but I did get number 27 of the white San Dimas Pro Mod. There is a difference in the 2 guitars as well. The US model has pick up rings and the Japan Pro Mod series utilize direct mount pickups. The fret job on the Japan models is much better as well. Other then that they are identical! Japan models also come with a hardshell case

  • Has anyone played a desolation yet? I need to find one first. BT7 nice work!

  • @CRAM1REZ51 Not yet. It looks like a PRS singlecut. American or Japanese?

  • BT71 is the first four letters in my zipcode/postcode!!! do you live in northern ireland???

  • @sunnyjim98 No sorry dude. I'm from the United States.

  • what kind of pedals ae you using to get that Vanhalen sound?

  • @lenewa Peavey 6505+ amp, Boss DD7, Boss Chorus, MXR Phase 90.

  • Hi mate, I'm behind a Stratocaster model guitar, because I sell my fender telecaster low because it was not needed, this gives the size Charvel things to play van halen, ozzy, bon jovi. the darkness etc?, I talk about the Japanese Charvel San Dimas. a greeting and thank you very much. Greetings

  • @alpilon23 Buenos dias. Que tal? The Charvel is an amazing guitar. It has one of the best necks I have ever played. The Seymour Duncan pickups are very well balanced and the Floyd Rose bridge is very stable. The only thing is you can't really pull way back on it because there is no recessed cavity. But that's fine. I have an ESP that's perfect for that kind of thing. The Charvel is very versatile and you can play any kind of music on it. Even the bands that you quoted.

  • @alpilon23 I recently played a Charvel So-Cal and they are just as good as the USA versions. I was actually debating buying one but I changed my mind. Instead, I am saving up for a Jackson USA Soloist. If you would like to hear more of the Charvel watch my other videos. I play Van Halen, Ozzy, Rush, etc... Thanks for watching and subscribe...

  • cant wait till i get my san dimas. i love those guitars. that's the only guitar that actually felt "right" in my hands. What amp you using if you don't mind me asking.

  • @8739785 I would have to agree with you about the Charvel San Dimas. I absolutely love it. Feels great and looks great too. It has a classic look that's timeless. I'm using a Roland JC90 for the clean stuff and a Peavey 6505+ for the parts that have distortion. Good luck.

  • can it be used to play classic rock as well?

  • @metalboy786 Yes. Of course. You get a wide variety of tones out of the pickups.

  • Is there much room for back play on the trem with these? Im looking to get one but I know the the trem is screwed directly to the body and not inse.

  • @androo957 If you adjust the height of the bridge just a little higher you could pull up on the trem quite a bit. It's no where near like an Ibanez Jem for example, but enough to do a harmonic squeel. The bridge on this guitar is extremely stable. It always comes back fairly in tune after being used a lot. I believe they are being made in Japan now. The American ones are getting a little harder to find now. I don't know how well built the Japanese ones are. I love this American re-issue.

  • @androo957 Just picked up a japanese one. Quality is on par with the american ones. Great fit and finish, tight neck pocket, flawless fret work. Factory setups were poor, but after a setup its every bit as good as a US model.

As far as up-pull, I have my trem parallel to the body, and can get a minor third up on the G, a tone up on the B, a semitone up on the high E.

  • @RobbbbCappelletto You are right about the Japanese versions. They are just as good as the USA versions. I recently played a So-Cal and loved it. I'm actually debating picking one up. White with the black pick guard would look kick ass. The funny thing is when I got my USA San Dimas it had a poor setup. After a good set-up it plays fantastic.

  • Hey, how do you feel about having no tone knob? I always put it on 10 but i dunno why im having wierd feeling about it

  • @Ibik It doesn't really bother me much. I have no tone knob on an ESP that I have and I never use the tone knobs on my Gibson. You are probably really used to having them on the guitar and it feels strange now. Don't worry you'll get used to it. Good luck and thanks for watching.

  • man which problems are with floyd rose?

  • @OnkelJackson83 When I first got this guitar the floyd was stiff. When I tried to intonate the bridge the saddles were kind of frozen. A little 3 in 1 oil fixed the problem. The thing works fantastic now. I think it needed to break in a little. If your thinking of getting one of these guitars get it. It's one of my best guitars. It never goes out of tune, it's comfortable to play, and it looks great. It's a classic.

  • Well "smart guy", you said it helps the stiffness of the trem. That's just not true. I don't know why you have to be sarcastic. Some people just don't like being wrong I guess.

  • @CudBucket

Boo hoo... Stop crying. I'm just trying to help the guy out. Don't get your panties all twisted up. We are all civilized guitar heads up in here. Peace!

  • @BT71guitar Whatever man. You're the one with his clit in a snit.

  • @CudBucket

"Clit in a snit" Ha ha! That's a good one. I like that. Maybe you're right bro. About the oil. It doesn't hurt though.

  • hey is there any way to make the floyd not stiff my guitar has the same problem

  • @algu11

You could try oiling the different parts of the Floyd. I used a 3 in 1 oil and only oiled the moving parts lightly. I heard you could replace the springs in the cavity with more flexible ones but I think you might lose tuning stability. If you have three springs try taking out the one in the middle. That might help. Again, your tuning stability is lost if you have less springs. So if you dive bomb, it might not come back to the original tuning. I have gotten used to mine.

  • @algu11

Oil won't help. It's not like it's stiff because it's not lubricated. The stiffness is related to the number of springs, the position of the spring claw and even the physical alignment of the springs. Some guys pull a spring out or mount the springs diagonally, etc. If you use super light strings, that will also make the bridge feel stiffer because the strings impart less counter tension on the springs.

  • @CudBucket

I don't know if you noticed but I mentioned about the spring issue. Oil does help out. When I bought the guitar I had to oil each saddle so I could make proper intonation adjustments. Oil also helps keep oxidation from occuring when your hands sweat. Next time read the whole comment smart guy.

  • Sweet! cool guitar and cool licks. Hey I got an idea, I think you should get a good microphone (like a Shure or Sennheiser) so that you could record these better.... how's that should?

  • Hey, thanks. I think you are right. Is that what you use? I'm a little inexperienced with recording video and music and then syncing everything together. How is that done?

  • @BT71guitar Hey, man.

I have found that using my Zoom Q3 like a standard microphone and putting it right in front of the speaker on my amp has been capturing some good tones. It has a 360deg mic so the putting it next to the amp with the camera facing you is the spot! I have been experimenting with distance...usually mics are placed right next to the grill cloth.

  • I think I have to experiment with the placement. I might just mic the amp with a good mic like the guy above says to do. I would just use the Zoom for video and then sync the two in the video software. That Mark V is kick ass. I'm officially jealous. I would love to get one but the wife would go ballistic. Especially with my little girls birthday coming up. I'm just going to save up. It's going to take a long ass time to get it though. Unlike you, I'm not selling nothing. I'm keeping everything.

  • @BT71guitar Dont you have a rectifier in storage?

  • @buckster7777

Yea, but it needs new tubes and some maintenance. Plus, I'm kind of over the sound. I would much rather have a compact combo like the Mark V than a head and cabinet. It just takes up too much space. I think I might sell it as is. The Mark V produces so many sounds and has so many options. It's all you need. The 100 watt rectifier doesn't sound good at low volumes.

  • @BT71guitar Very true. And yea, the MKV can get you into rectifier territory if you want too. Rec's sound great but like you said; you have really crank it. There are some phenomenal low volume sounds available in the MKV for when the kids are asleep too. I might invest in a closed back boogie 112 cab though for my setup too...just for fun. There is something about the dynamics on the bass response that's different than an open back combo.
