I totally agree with him! It´s possible to get these features working but it bothers me that i have to tweak my system for hours so i can finally use it.All points are right and you should mention that the "default applications" is also crappy in Gnome 3........why can´t i just choose the path to the application in Nautilus.........
In 10 easy clicks in Fedora/Gnome 3 you could open a terminal and then:
su -c "shutdown -h now"
...to power down completely. That's a joke about the 10 clicks and all. I haven't used Gnome 3. I'm in love with 2.32 and I won't use any other environment if my distro gives me a choice to use Gnome 2.32.
This is the reason why I'm using XFCE now because it's sort of how GNOME 2 is and since they've moved to GNOME 3 I'm staying with XFCE for now. And I have to say that I really enjoy XFCE ^_-
i agree. out of the box gnome 3 kinda sucks. i dont want to have to install extensions to get a usable desktop. KDE keeps improving so i will be switching to Kubuntu when 11.10 comes out

Pressing Alt-key turns hibernate-button into shut-down-button :)
The rest you have to get used to I guess.

You, sir, look like a person who tested GNOME3 for 15 minutes and said "F*ck it, Gnome2 is better anyway".
You should at least google the problems bothering You in G3.
Because for EVERY little problem You listed there is a very simple solution.
Good luck! I hope You give G3 a try ;)

gnome3 supports icons on desktop... also there are extensions for a classic startmenu....
shutting down is also possible, simply hit the alt key... its oddly hidden, but its there...
