this was first done in Vietnam using cobra gun ships. A Marine super cobra lifted ten special forces commando's to the top of a ridge in afganistan to cut off retreating taliban. the taliban are no longer with us. way to Go Brit's way to Go. The British have some amazing helicopters. There's no question about that. The problem in this case might have been -- as TS stated -- what they needed simply might not have been available at that time. What is important, is that they at least recovered the body of this amazingly brave soldier. Kudos to those guys! Heroes all!

All you ever see American marines do is call in air support, or get a tank in to unload it's ammo onto it, go back to reload, then unload on it again. Then move in, and fall back if they hear a gunshot and call back that tank.
