@defryer1 Its a rotary engine, you have to let it warm up. Its kind of like a diesel motor, so you do not wanna turn on the car and turn it back off right away because it can flood the motor. Rotary cars will last if maintain well but many people dont know how to take care of their rotary motors.

Mine also has the flip-up Navigation (which I never use) but it's slick. I've had mine since 2005 and have had ZERO problems. Only thing that aggravated me was when it was time to change the spark plugs. The engine is so low and far back that you have to take off the driver side tire. They aren't cheap either. 4 plugs cost me $80 US.

@landraider101 for one you don't get the max hp. also the rx8 was engineered to be revd a little more than ordinary. the car wants to be treated with a high rpm. if you don't rev it enough you might find that you are getting worse gas mileage. and of course too much reving is going to get your baby messed up as well. so you need to find a mid- hig h rev point on it. the automatic doesn't give you much control over that. many people have probs simply cause they don't know how to drive the beauty.
@GerekJordan93 my style of drive is when i turn into a high speed road get it to red line to see how fast i can get it from 10-80k's cause im a hoon, plus most people i think would use it for looks.

@ipodsrdabest First off, the stock intake of the '8 is already optimized. You'll be spending a lot of money on barely any gains (some people have reported a LOSS of power after a CAI). Would it be cheaper to own? No. Would it be a much better car? Yes.
@ipodsrdabest Oh, and to address the "faster" part of your question. The '8 would be slower in a straight line, but would trash the SS in real-world driving (i.e. turns).

@SpunkyMunky0292 It's a rotory engine - not a standard combustion engine as on other cars. It gets around 20mpg with mixed driving in the real world. There's more to a car's economy than the displacement of its engine!

Honestly, I love Manual and it's how I learned how to drive a car but... I'm more of a fan of Shiftable Automatic transmission. You have all the power and control of a manual trans.. but wit a security feature that makes sure you don't stall/slip gears. And who knows, maybe one day you're feeling very lazy- just pop it into automatic :)!

Im jw my Dad and i were looking into cars for me and this'll be my first car too. So i just have some question. The spec is 2004 with around 63k miles. I did some research and it looks like it needs a lot of maintenance with the oil and scheduled maintenance too. I love cars so it wouldnt really have a prob with all that stuff but as a first car though is it worth it spending all the money on those things? or should i wait til im older and can find a better paying job? with an rx8 before u start driving warm up the engine, when u get out let it cool down with the engine running. check oil every 500 miles. and use premium unleaded gasoline. do those things and ur rx8 should keep the butterflies in ur stomach every you drive this car. i plan on getting one soon. GET A MANUAL its badd ass. you get more hp and its more fun to drive. also dont be fooled by the 1.4L engine. that engine puts out more than most v6 piston engines. make sure u get the renisis engine too
@TheFurb15 I agree with most of which you say, except it's a 1.3L rotary with 232HP. And even with the auto, it has over 210. I'd go with an auto because this car isn't like it's brother the Rx-7 who put out 270Hp stock. This car seems to be more of an executive cruiser and if you drive in traffic a manual will just piss you off with the constant shifting which is not good for the clutch. Long distance (over 100 miles round trip) I'd get an auto, but yeah the RX-8 is really bad ass, cheers!

@josumadre Actually I sat in a 2005 rx8 just yesterday, I'm 17 and am 5' 8" tall. It was quite comfortable. The seat was pretty much all the way back and my knees weren't even touching!
@MASTERMARK360 no because there is no clutch on the automatic transmission. The point of paddle shifters is to have the feel of a manual (sort of) without the hassle.

with an rx8 before u start driving warm up the engine, when u get out let it cool down with the engine running. check oil every 500 miles. and use premium unleaded gasoline. do those things and ur rx8 should keep the butterflies in ur stomach every you drive this car. i plan on getting one soon. GET A MANUAL its badd ass. you get more hp and its more fun to drive. also dont be fooled by the 1.4L engine. that engine puts out more than most v6 piston engines. make sure u get the renisis engine too

@TheFurb15 I agree with most of which you say, except it's a 1.3L rotary with 232HP. And even with the auto, it has over 210. I'd go with an auto because this car isn't like it's brother the Rx-7 who put out 270Hp stock. This car seems to be more of an executive cruiser and if you drive in traffic a manual will just piss you off with the constant shifting which is not good for the clutch. Long distance (over 100 miles round trip) I'd get an auto, but yeah the RX-8 is really bad ass, cheers!

@modernshitblizzard i agree manual makes me feel like a bad ass. plus u get more hp. i have close relatives in the auto business. one of which works with mazdas. she told me that the most rx8's that come into the shop with problems are autos. also, this car is a monster. it needs to be run hard. to actually take care of the car u need to rev those rpms high. it literally thirsts for speed. get a renesis engine it has been updated to its full potential. they changed also things that them break.

@josumadre Actually I sat in a 2005 rx8 just yesterday, I'm 17 and am 5' 8" tall. It was quite comfortable. The seat was pretty much all the way back and my knees weren't even touching!

@MASTERMARK360 no because there is no clutch on the automatic transmission. The point of paddle shifters is to have the feel of a manual (sort of) without the hassle.
