i only agree with the war on drugs as far as removing drugs from our American society, but i don't agree on those harsh punishments served to people with no prior felony convictions.
When are they just going to legalize it already? It is not even about right or wrong, it is about personal freedom, the right of any human. Anybody wanting to argue that should take a long hard look at their own humanness.

All you kids need to do is stop using drugs, you know the risk so don't take it,also i think the government should make use of prisoners of america and end them to war, especially those serving life sentence, what do they have to loose
@Theriot6592 It's not a death sentence to use prisoners to fight our foreign wars. It's a passage to redeem honor and freedom. If they survive then they no longer have to spend the next 25 years or life in prison, and we won't have innocent soldiers dying so heavily.
@Keepskatin uh, yes it is a death sentence because they get fucking SHOT, dumbfuck. And what are you talking about honor? What military are YOU talking about?
it's all an attempt to weed us out any way they can and going to the army and dying in another country is just fine with them an extermination if you will.
The so-called "war on drugs" has ruined millions of lives and careers and families, supported gangs and Organized Crime, filled the courts and jails, eroded our rights and freedoms, corrupted cops and politicians, cost billions of dollars, and has not decreased drug use by even one percent. Alcohol Prohibition created the American Mafia. Can we really not learn from our mistakes? End the war on drugs and free the POWs!
In fact it probably increased drug use. If cocaine, heroin, marijuana, etc. never became illicit, they probably never would have been noticed or popularized.

97markviii; "how is financial aid and military related?" fastlan is right. you should go to a diff. school NOW. You need to THINK! If you dont have finacial aid to GO TO COLLEGE, what are the best options left to you? Either work a 9-5 job shoveling dirt or join the military. Guess which option most young people are likely top pick. Come from a rich family do you mark? Money doesnt grow on trees..... Oh wait. Yes it does, sort of.

Uh, actually I served in the army for 4 years, not to go to school but I actually wanted to make a difference and support our troops in the field. If you can afford weed then you can afford school....I'm not talking about people who smoke once in a great while either. I'm talking about people who smoke it regularly. Just think that $100 could go towards your classes instead weed. Stop whinning about not being able to go to school cuz you are working a 9-5 job to support your drug habbit.
You assume too much mark. I too served. It paid for my education. I have a degree in Biology and used that degree to secure a VERY nice job. I smoked the whole while. And what about the people who smoke "once in a great while". If those folks are caught, their finacial aid is GONE! Plain and simple fact is that taking kids finacial aid away for smoking a joint is BARBARIC! Youre an asshole for supporting such a notion. Time to wake up little lamb. Get a clue.
And furthermore mark; You say that if one can afford pot, one can afford college? Really? Have you attended any classes at an actual University? Its VERY expensive. FAR more expensive than buying a $20 sack that lasts a guy for a month. You have NO clue what you are talking about here. Go get an education and some experience before shooting off at the mouth. Prohibition of Cannabis is a STUPID and HARMFUL policy. Your support of it makes YOU stupid and harmful to society.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yes, I know how much classes cost. Since you can only afford a $20 sack doesn't mean every other pothead smokes as little as you do. My friend usually smokes at least one oz of marijuana every week. That's at $100 an oz on avg which is about $400/month. So that's about $1600 a semester (4 months). You tell me you can't afford to go to a decent college with that much money! That's at least 8 credits (10 credits here). He has no desire to go to college or do anything for that matter...
Mark; You are making broad, foolish generalizations here which only concern the few people you know. The main point here is that prohibition is STUPID. You are stupid for supporting such a harmful, counter-productive policy. Taking a kids financial aid away for a Cannabis conviction is HARMFUL TO SOCIETY. Period. If you argue against that point then you better wake the fuck up. Also, a FULL TIME semester at any major university costs WELL over $2000. So.. EHHH. Try again.
And agian mark; You are clearly lacking in experience concerning both education and Cannabis. Dont talk shit about something you have no experience with. It paints you as naive. Which makes sense, because anyone who supports prohibition and taking aid away from kids for using Cannabis is CLEARLY naive at the very LEAST. Wake up.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I like how you say I'm making generalizations when I am telling you from personal experience, that just makes you sound stupid. Then you go on about how major universities cost well over $2000 a semester. Where did I say it's cheap to go to a major university? Furthermore you go on about how I lack education about marijuana. Please show me a good source of how marijuana is good for anything other than recreational use? I have used marijuana a few times and I can't say anything positive about it.
Mark; I am telling you that your personal exp. SEEMS to be lacking. Again, bottom line is that YOU support prohibition, a terribly damaging policy towards the American people and our society at large. ANYONE who thinks prohibition of a plant is a good idea and an enforceable law, is truly naive and lacking experience and/or retarded. I dont need to show you proof its good for other than rec use. If you have a brain(maybe you dont?)you can find that info. Its easy to find. Wake up fool.

Good job dodging the question entirely usmc. So lets have it. Please tell me how Drug prohibition is a "good law". If you indeed can think for yourself, as you say, then answer the question.
Carl Sagan said marijuana helped him write many of his books and inspired a lot of intellectual ideas in him. Recently, studies have shown that pot not only does not deplete cells in the brain, it actually creates more.
Francis Crick came up with the DNA double helix under the influence of LSD . Carl Sagan an Arnold Shwarzenegger used pot regularly ! End the addict myth an end the war on drugs .
Think about it, it's the perfect racket! By denying student aid they're less likely to get an education and succeed in society and more likely to resort to "crime" to survive. In essence this is another example of policy creating a problem in society and mis placing the blame. In reality it creates a predatory industry based on the drugs bust prison disenfranchisement drugs cycle. Legalize the drugs and the industry dies taking 99%+ of the severe drug problems with it!
Bush is a scum bag.....why doesn't he send his daughters to Iraq to entertain the troops....his own daughters have had some problems with substance abuse (mainly alcohol I think).
It's never going to happen. The drug war will never end. There is way too much money to be had by keeping the drug war going! So what incentive is there to ending this war? ABSOLUTELY NONE!
It's not about ending the war. It's about keeping people out of school just because they smoke pot. I smoke marijuana, finished school, and have a nice paying job. I love my life, but if Bush had his way I'd have been forced out of school, and handed a gun for his petty war.
yeah, i was trying for two degrees at once, really motivated to succeed. but then came time for my appearance in court for a misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge, rather than turn my self in, i didn't show up, i willing got an FTA and dug my self deeper just to get some more financial aid.
A person can rape and murder and still get a grant for education, but OUR kids get caught smoking pot and they are screwed! This Drug War is a war on the American people, and it must stop! Wake the hell up people and check out the history of this drug war, and the damage it has done to Americans!
Thats right "LEAP" or LAW ENFORCEMENT AGAINST PROHIBITION has formed I bet you ask why.
THIS JUST IN FROM THE AMERICAN MEDICAL MARIUANA ASSOCIATION....TOP STORY: PUTTING DRUG WAR CRIMINALS ON NOTICE: "JUST FOLLOWING ORDERS" IS NOT A VALID DEFENSE, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW.
It really doesn't matter whether you love drugs, hate drugs, or are indifferent about drugs. No matter who you are, the Drug War isn't working for you, especially this Aid Elimination Penalty.
By putting up roadblocks to education, we're making existing drug problems worse. That's why organizations like the National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence and the National Education Association stand with Students for Sensible Drug Policy in our opposition to this counterproductive law.
Criscokilika: No, we can't agree on that. People with drug abuse problems deserve our respect and understanding, just as we generally treat alcoholics with respect in our society. It's barbaric to disrespect someone simply because they have a drug addiction. That sort of stigma is what has fueled this endless War on Drugs to the point where the U.S. houses 25% of the world's prison population, even though we are only 5% of the world's total population!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I can understand that drug abusers need our support and such but I hold no regard as for the reasons people choose to take up drugs. There is really no reason for such illeagal activity.
But marijuana is untreated and naturally, and organically, grown. It would be considered herbal medicine with psychoactive effects. Marinol (synthetic THC supported by the government), on the other hand, IS a drug and has many detrimental effects.
please cut the bullshit, ok! people who do drugs are no differant then people who don't, infact i would say people who have never done drugs at all, are weak minded and futher more there missing out on a huge part of life.. and what this world truely has to offer, not just what the government wants you know about
your clearly one of the people i'm talking about.. i'm not saying you should go be a drug addict, but if you've never smoked pot or taken lsd or mushrooms for that matter.. then you have no clue where i'm coming from with my earlier statment ... and there are truely amazing things in this world that you will never know, and kicks and thrills you will never have the joy to experience
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
okay... you are definatly hooked on something if you get thrills in life out of drugs. I enjoy my life fine and i have never used illeagal drugs and have never abused legal drugs.
then you will never understand what i'm trying to tell you... i wish you the best but.. there is more you could be getting out of life, i try and live life to the fullest and to me that means trying everything at least once, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT YOUR MISSING, and i don't see how you can make an accurate jugdement of something you've never tryed first hand, anyway we could argue this day and night and neither of us would be right
You know TurdGuy, I've done all the drugs you're talking about and more. I wouldn't say that I'd take it all back and never do them, but I certainly wish I hadn't done as much or many as I did. Now, this Criscokilika person may never understand what we've experienced, but what about us and what he or she has experienced? I wish I could remember what life is like without the permatracers and the breathing walls and the paranoia and the mystery light.
The drug conviction is against your first amendment (freedom of mind). The only reason you think it's bad (maybe you do or don't) is because it is demonized by Christians. 'Nough said.
hmmm..im 16, and can easily be convicted of a drug conviction. but it does seem logical that the president would let druggies into the army, but there are plenty of smart druggies out there too...and plus, this is the land of oppurtunity, and this drug conviction law is contradicting that.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sure drug prohibition sucks. The war in Iraq sucks. But this is propaganda. Typical liberal half truth. Bush has nothing against people with drug convictions going to college, he is just not going to provide them with aid to do so. The prohibition on drugs is messed up for sure, but this is not attacking the problem, only addressing one of the symptoms. Why would we want to fund someone through college who is too stupid to avoid a drug conviction anyway?
In 2005 The National Survey on Drugs and Health report funded by SAMHSA said that 37.5% of full-time college students will use illicit drugs annually. The more uneducated you are the more likely you will abuse drugs. Also don't forge that that 14% of drug users are black but 36% of drug arrests are black and 75% of people that end up in jail for drugs are black. Minorities deserve a fair and equal shot at education with financial aid..
In 2003, a Pentagon commissioned RAND report said, "The [armed] services might be able to significantly expand their pool of potential recruits by adopting policies that target youth who plan to go to college..."
So... now we not only risk our lives trying to get these mind altering substances, most of which have been used throughout history, but now if and WHEN we get caught we lose the thing society needs to function, AND we get to kill people against our own will. Isn't America, home of the free, great?

Thats right "LEAP" or LAW ENFORCEMENT AGAINST PROHIBITION has formed I bet you ask why.
THIS JUST IN FROM THE AMERICAN MEDICAL MARIUANA ASSOCIATION....TOP STORY: PUTTING DRUG WAR CRIMINALS ON NOTICE: "JUST FOLLOWING ORDERS" IS NOT A VALID DEFENSE, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW.
SPACE3200 4 years ago
So our retarded government has finally decided to losen it's standards for military recruits with drug convictions......great
If you really wanted to boost your recruitment you should accept those who test positive for non-hard drugs like marijuana
I went to enlist right out of high school and never ended up a United States Marine because of their bullshit drug testing policies
FYI: YOUR LOSS......USMC.....I would have made a hardcore kick ass Marine

It really doesn't matter whether you love drugs, hate drugs, or are indifferent about drugs. No matter who you are, the Drug War isn't working for you, especially this Aid Elimination Penalty.
By putting up roadblocks to education, we're making existing drug problems worse. That's why organizations like the National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence and the National Education Association stand with Students for Sensible Drug Policy in our opposition to this counterproductive law.

@SSDP Not to mention the fact that it lowers our standing in the world for education:(

I can understand that drug abusers need our support and such but I hold no regard as for the reasons people choose to take up drugs. There is really no reason for such illeagal activity.

marijuana is not a drug and shouldn't be classified as one... its a plant.

Filabusta2, marijuana is intoxicating silimarly to the way alchohol is.
Criscokilika 4 years ago
But marijuana is untreated and naturally, and organically, grown. It would be considered herbal medicine with psychoactive effects. Marinol (synthetic THC supported by the government), on the other hand, IS a drug and has many detrimental effects.

Honestly, it's hard to respect someone who abuses drugs, I think we can all agree on that.

please cut the bullshit, ok! people who do drugs are no differant then people who don't, infact i would say people who have never done drugs at all, are weak minded and futher more there missing out on a huge part of life.. and what this world truely has to offer, not just what the government wants you know about
turdlinger5000 4 years ago 3
turdlinger5000, what do you mean "missing out on a huge part of life"? Drugs shouldn't be a huge part of anyones life!
Criscokilika 4 years ago
your clearly one of the people i'm talking about.. i'm not saying you should go be a drug addict, but if you've never smoked pot or taken lsd or mushrooms for that matter.. then you have no clue where i'm coming from with my earlier statment ... and there are truely amazing things in this world that you will never know, and kicks and thrills you will never have the joy to experience

okay... you are definatly hooked on something if you get thrills in life out of drugs. I enjoy my life fine and i have never used illeagal drugs and have never abused legal drugs.
Criscokilika 4 years ago
then you will never understand what i'm trying to tell you... i wish you the best but.. there is more you could be getting out of life, i try and live life to the fullest and to me that means trying everything at least once, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT YOUR MISSING, and i don't see how you can make an accurate jugdement of something you've never tryed first hand, anyway we could argue this day and night and neither of us would be right
turdlinger5000 4 years ago
You know TurdGuy, I've done all the drugs you're talking about and more. I wouldn't say that I'd take it all back and never do them, but I certainly wish I hadn't done as much or many as I did. Now, this Criscokilika person may never understand what we've experienced, but what about us and what he or she has experienced? I wish I could remember what life is like without the permatracers and the breathing walls and the paranoia and the mystery light.

chknmnkey 4 years ago 4
The drug conviction is against your first amendment (freedom of mind). The only reason you think it's bad (maybe you do or don't) is because it is demonized by Christians. 'Nough said.
ItaiZetsumei 4 years ago
hmmm..im 16, and can easily be convicted of a drug conviction. but it does seem logical that the president would let druggies into the army, but there are plenty of smart druggies out there too...and plus, this is the land of oppurtunity, and this drug conviction law is contradicting that.

Why would we want to fund someone through college who is too stupid to avoid a drug conviction anyway?
dabestdefense 4 years ago

Hmmm. Policies that target youth. Sound familiar?
