I fell in love with this song over many phone calls. I wrote to the Johns about it and actually got a hand written post card back, assuring me Birdhouse would be on the next album. It was and I can remember how THRILLED I was... Flood was a great album but, it must have been several days before I heard any of the other songs on it!
"I'd like to cover the earth, with a fresh baked yummy dessert / people couldn't live in it, but it'd be worth the money and hurt." Perfect TMBG lyrics. :-P
Blue Cannary In The Outlet By The Lightswitch He Watches Over You Make A Little Birdhouse In Your Soul Not To Put Too Fine A Point On It Say I'm The Only Bee In Your Bonnette Make A Little Birdhouse In Your Soul I Have A Secret To Tell Out When Your all By Yourself There's A Time Where Even You Get Up And Leave Your nothin' To Dwell I Don't Want To Talk About That... That's All I can make out
It's well documented that TMBG used to record their demos on 4-track tape recorders back then, which were very easy to speed up/down. They would have mastered their recordings onto a regular cassette to put into the DAS machine.
Those of us that recorded from Dial-A-Song 20 years ago did it simply by holding the telephone up to a microphone or a tape deck. Sure this has been transferred to a digital format but you can tell from the background noise that it is running at the correct speed, otherwise the hiss would sound unnatural. And if thats not enough to convince you, I will testify that whenever I called Dial-A-Song both Johns sounded like they had inhaled helium.
why does it have different lyrics and it both johns sound like spongebob

I love how they borrowed "Give me something to write on" from Van Halen's Hot For Teacher.

The way the recording of these worked in (I suppose) the 80's made sounds higher pitched.

I actually meant the recording device whoever uploaded it to the internet used. It would seem a little odd if this was the intended effect.

I can't tell if it's Linnell or Flansburg singing.
