  • I love how you make it sound so much more melancholy than the record... My grammar is appalling I know but you get me, right? :)

  • this is literally the most beautiful 36 seconds of guitar i've ever heard... sort of naked without the bass though :p

  • @imonthestereo please check out my cover of this charming man. tell me what you think?

  • add the bass and drums!

  • amazing guitar...where can i get one?

  • you're a great guitarist, but this isn't by the textbook.

  • Damn son.... that is a nice guitar

  • is this based on the hatful of hollow version??

  • holy fkin jesus that was the greatest thing ive ever seen, even though it wasnt in the right key. the tone is insane.

  • I'm still ill from trying this...

  • funny guy

  • I thought I was doing well with my guitar playing until I saw this vid, and Heaven Knows I'm Miserable now. :P

  • liking the play on words! good witt...

  • lol we could all just sit here and show our wit until the 'The Queen Is Dead' couldnt we?

  • ohhhhh you!

    what are we like eh?

    lmao

  • what about the bass cover of this song? Can you upload it please?

  • This version that he played is based on the "Hatful of Hollow" version of the song, which is a bit slower.

  • you're on the right track but you need a looooooooooooooooooooooot of practice. it is a hard one (that Johnny Marr ain't easy)

  • I was just about to say the same thing, this track seems really tough to play.

  • But it sounds really good though, nice and clean. Nice work! I'm sure you'll get it. Can't wait to hear it and in the meantime I'll practice the bassline...

    Cheers.....

  • have you seen danearwickers other videos, he needs no practice i assure you. fools

  • Dude, I know man, the guy is awesome! I meant absolutely no offence. I've seen many of his vids.

    Cheers and no fools here...

  • agreed! ive just listen to his 'still ill' and its brilliant. so clear and crisp. but im sure these guys werent meaning any offense by saying that.

  • you haven't seen his other videos have you?

  • good ! I love the rickenbacker s sound !

  • needs to be played a little more consistently.

  • agree

  • add some reveb

  • cant get enough of the sound of this guitar...do you have any effects on or is it the sound of the 12 string and the pickups that make it sopund different?

  • it's a 12 string rick. you won't get that sound unless you get one.

  • awesome man, just wish you'd adjust your cam a little bit so i could see the pick! great job.

  • Excellent as Always, This Guy is on par with a young J Marr`s talent. A pleasure to watch and listen. Keep It Up Dan.

  • I agree!!!!

  • I don't know with whom you agree, but I think danielearwicker does quite a job of recreating Johnny Marr's guitar work. In fact, it's better than anyone else that I've heard. I say keep it up, most definitely.

  • u sure about that

  • Viva Johnny Marr!!!! He coulda retired at age 23!

    Astonishing!!!!!!

  • I'M IN LOVE WITH THAT RICKKKK

    Pretty good!

  • not bad

  • I've just recently purchased a 12-string (Univox from mid 60s). How much practice did you have to do before your fingers became so nimble?

  • Very cool, Man !

    Great!

  • I noticed you have changed your 12 stings to toasters. I have also. I also have a toaster set on my 360 that was must have been unwound to about 6 ohms and they sound amazing. I also have some great amps like a twin, deluxe, super and a newer swart that lets any guitar shine.

  • Your awsome love your stuff Ive heard this played a million different ways I wanna upload the way i play it but i suck:(

  • Has ANYONE noticed that if you try to play to the ACTUAL song, you can't do it in 440hz tuning????? You'll sound out of tune even though you tune up properly.

  • yes, it really pisses me off!!!! its slightly of tune!!!

  • The recorded version is a semitone off... It drove me nuts until I realized it wasn't me- it was the record! I ended up tuning my guitar to the song at first, then adjusted the song itself when I finally got a computer many years ago... HTH!

  • I know, I spent ages getting it just right, turned itunes on and DOH!! Like Marr isn't annoying enough to learn in the first place...

  • ive been looking at various tabs of this song and i want to know... is this played with a capo 2nd or not?

  • Nice axe!

  • Very nice. Do you use flats or rounds on your 12 strings?

  • The original riff is played at the 7,9,10 and 12th frets, ish!

    Cool version though.

  • vvvvvvv your pretty quick buddy...jeez.

  • its way faster then this bro.

  • way higher up n all

  • I think he's aware of that...he's just playing it slower. I think its sounds even better slow personally, not the song, just the riff. I think he also likes helping people learn the riff, Marr can be very complex.

    give yourself a hand.

  • Earwicker is GOD!!

  • Very nice dude, I feel proud for u!

I wonder if you play any Jeff Buckley. He was a huge Marr fan and a sick guitarist in his own right...You prob know this already, but try post some of his shit.

  • You're missing a capo.

  • you did it really well but as a popular saying goes *Johnny Marr isnt even as good as Johnny Marr*

  • MrBritish01: I believe that's a quote from Noel Gallagher.

  • it is and i agree with him completely

  • haha "even he can't do what he does"

  • Hello, I really like the sound of that guitar. I think I I'm gonna go for the 6 string model in red. I've just done a version of that my self on my strat, have a listen if you've got a minute. Have you ever had a go at "What diffence does it make" by The Smiths?

  • u can tell wot it is it just doesn't sound right. well done anyway

  • Love it! cheers

  • i learned to play this by ear,it took me about ten years and its still not note perfect, good work man!

  • You can get pretty close by capoing up to F# (as Daniel pointed out; the key Marr mentions). But to think you'll get the texture of sound from that recording with a single guitar is ludicrous. If you want the tab, check out the ultimate guitar website. There is a pretty accurate power tab on there for This Charming Man.

    Well done, as always Daniel.

  • To quote Mr Marr: "I'm tuned up to F# and I finger it in G, so it comes out in A. There are about 15 tracks of guitar. People thought the main guitar part was a Rickenbacker, but it's really a '54 Tele". See, perfectly simple and straightforward.

  • @danielearwicker 15? dam

  • i posted the tab for this (the live version) on the very first guitar tab archive at nevadaedu in 1991 or 1992 (now called "the guitar archive"). I've since seen the tab copied to many other sites. you can find it at: guitartabcom. the song is actually played higher up on the neck--the arpeggio parts. it is hard...takes lots of practice.

  • Ok...

You cannot find the tab for the way he is playing it because he is not playing at the right fret. As such, it sounds out of key to the original

  • yes, please do heaven knows im miserable now or hand in glove. god, you're good.

  • that was amazing, i cant find tabs like the ones you played. where did you get them?

keep up the good work. you should play william it was really nothing or heaven knows im miserable now.

  • Great!

  • Great stuff. Even though Marr says he used a Tele on the original, having heard this played on a 12-string for the first time I'm convinced there's some 12 string in the studio mix....!

  • ALthough he uses a ricky in the film clip for some reason... That is way to slow and from what I can hear its actually wrong as well...

  • He's playing the Hatfull of Hollow version and its a pretty fookin hard song to play.

  • speak for yourself mate.
