But it sounds really good though, nice and clean. Nice work! I'm sure you'll get it. Can't wait to hear it and in the meantime I'll practice the bassline...
cant get enough of the sound of this guitar...do you have any effects on or is it the sound of the 12 string and the pickups that make it sopund different?
I don't know with whom you agree, but I think danielearwicker does quite a job of recreating Johnny Marr's guitar work. In fact, it's better than anyone else that I've heard. I say keep it up, most definitely.
I noticed you have changed your 12 stings to toasters. I have also. I also have a toaster set on my 360 that was must have been unwound to about 6 ohms and they sound amazing. I also have some great amps like a twin, deluxe, super and a newer swart that lets any guitar shine.
Has ANYONE noticed that if you try to play to the ACTUAL song, you can't do it in 440hz tuning????? You'll sound out of tune even though you tune up properly.
The recorded version is a semitone off... It drove me nuts until I realized it wasn't me- it was the record! I ended up tuning my guitar to the song at first, then adjusted the song itself when I finally got a computer many years ago... HTH!
I think he's aware of that...he's just playing it slower. I think its sounds even better slow personally, not the song, just the riff. I think he also likes helping people learn the riff, Marr can be very complex.
I wonder if you play any Jeff Buckley. He was a huge Marr fan and a sick guitarist in his own right...You prob know this already, but try post some of his shit.
Hello, I really like the sound of that guitar. I think I I'm gonna go for the 6 string model in red. I've just done a version of that my self on my strat, have a listen if you've got a minute. Have you ever had a go at "What diffence does it make" by The Smiths?
You can get pretty close by capoing up to F# (as Daniel pointed out; the key Marr mentions). But to think you'll get the texture of sound from that recording with a single guitar is ludicrous. If you want the tab, check out the ultimate guitar website. There is a pretty accurate power tab on there for This Charming Man.
To quote Mr Marr: "I'm tuned up to F# and I finger it in G, so it comes out in A. There are about 15 tracks of guitar. People thought the main guitar part was a Rickenbacker, but it's really a '54 Tele". See, perfectly simple and straightforward.
i posted the tab for this (the live version) on the very first guitar tab archive at nevadaedu in 1991 or 1992 (now called "the guitar archive"). I've since seen the tab copied to many other sites. you can find it at: guitartabcom. the song is actually played higher up on the neck--the arpeggio parts. it is hard...takes lots of practice.
Great stuff. Even though Marr says he used a Tele on the original, having heard this played on a 12-string for the first time I'm convinced there's some 12 string in the studio mix....!
I love how you make it sound so much more melancholy than the record... My grammar is appalling I know but you get me, right? :)

this is literally the most beautiful 36 seconds of guitar i've ever heard... sort of naked without the bass though :p

This version that he played is based on the "Hatful of Hollow" version of the song, which is a bit slower.

you're on the right track but you need a looooooooooooooooooooooot of practice. it is a hard one (that Johnny Marr ain't easy)

You cannot find the tab for the way he is playing it because he is not playing at the right fret. As such, it sounds out of key to the original
