  • Oh god, I hope Hammond didn't kill Foster in the duel!

  • He will be MOST WELCOME.

  • kamikaze of the 18th century.

  • The argument between Foster and that other captain was hilarious!

  • @Radars22 Hammond? Oh, he's a right bastar 'e is. You'll see him again later in the series. Basterd...

  • Thanks very much for uploading this! Brilliant stuff

  • the boy stood on the burning deck...

  • I wish issuing duels was still legal...

  • Thanks so much for posting all these, I'm really enjoying revising this series!

  • wedge!

  • I'm wondering if this changes Foster. He certainly would have let Horatio die to save himself. But after Horatio saves him I think for the first time in his life, he puts another person before himself. What is the saying about a master learning from a student? Oh wait. . he takes on Hammond. Well, that too was for Horatio's but Hammond didn't deserve it. He even praises them. He got there in little more than a minute! I think Foster is embarassed to owe the cub.

  • @Songsmirth well to me, this makes him a badass. And I don't think he was otally selfish before. After all, he did get onto the fireship, too, when he could have let Pellew burn. In fact, wouldn't that have been more satisfying for him?

Also, like I said, Hammond is a total bastard.

  • For the record, it is far higher praise for a senior and well respected Captain to say to a young acting lieutenant "It has been an honour to serve with you" It shows a trust and faith in one's abilities and values that no promotion can ever give you. The trust of your seniors and the respect of your subordinates, utopia gentlemen.

  • And THAT is how you pass the lieutenants' exam...:)

    Also....damn, Wedge rocks..:)

  • I KNEW Captain Foster looked familiar!! I didn't realize it was Wedge from Star Wars!

  • could you make a vidio just of the "sir" argument? that'd be awsome.

  • Does anyone else realize that Captain Foster is played by Denis Lawson...who plays Wedge in the original Star Wars trilogy.

  • @Jman7133 Denis Lawson is also Ewan MacGregor's uncle.

  • In the book the men in the rowboat were the Spaniards who set fire to the fireship.

  • i wish they told us what the awnser was for the cliffs of dover situation

  • i thought he got promoted in this one ? maybe not

  • @WhiteRabbitm8te He did get promoted. It's widely implied (several times) that he would have been failed, but they passed him on account of his actions, not the examination.

  • @tyrannusBE ah of course thanks for that my bad

  • hahahah foster is jokes

  • I really enjoy these movies. I think they are missing (like most movies made from books) a great deal of the detail you find in the books, but they still are still lots of fun.

  • They've got to be standing on something in the water, how else would Foster be so high in the water.

  • lmfao the lookonhornblowersfacewhen thosetwo captains are going at each other hes like "what the fuck:|"

  • 5:40 - the entire boat scene.....brilliant \o/

  • Hornblower somehow, seemingly "bumbles" his way to outshine all others... it's brilliant...

  • I contratulate you on your perspicacity sir!

  • "That particular examination board may never reassemble I fancy." lol

They should have brought back foster for another episode - he was brilliant comic relief.

  • Thankyou very much for posting all this up, it was a most enjoyable way to spend a night.

  • a bit OTT i thought.

he saves the examiners life moments after hes being examined.

  • goto love the captains argument:p

  • I love the arguements shared between the captains.

  • 6:05 - 6:42 A true gentlemen's argument, if I do say so myself XD

  • @rawrschach HE WILL BE MOST WELCOME!

  • @rawrschach and Hornblower is just "What the blazes just happened?"

  • I love it when Pellew sees its hornblower on the fireship and says "Hornblower" in the perfect way

  • I have a soft spot for Foster, even though he is a bit of a self-important ass.

And Captain Pellew kicks all sorts of ass.

  • the captains face around 2:35 is priceless

  • the captain is cool

  • Thanks for posting

  • lol Foster's a douche

  • ROFL at their arguments

  • so . . . he passed it?

  • i presume hammond would have been the only one who would not have agreed to promote him, so i guess its 2:1.

  • I watched the next episode. they say something at the end of the next episode that tells the true ratio. (The Duchess and the Devil, Part 12) I won't say it if you haven't seen it.

  • "an opinion confirmed by 3 captains", that includes dreadnought foster. There was never any duel between hammond and foster.

  • Maybe, or maybe they both survived. (that happened sometimes, in which case both would just end the whole thing)

  • thanks for uploading this.

  • after the argument between the captains...awkward.

  • It is a delight to see all of these great 'character' actors playing powerful men and squabbling amongst themselves.

  • 8:18 - 8:52 is quite inspring, makes one think about his own life

  • LOL at the dialogue in the end. Classic tomfoolery.

  • I think Hornblower is very much an ahem hornblower indeed....

  • I was waiting for Capt. Hammond to yell "Never never never!"

  • Denis Lawson is Ewan McGregor's uncle. So the StarWars thing sort of runs in the family. :)

  • like "i forsee a time when the navy would be master in space" rofl !

  • Wow...Wedge from Star Wars even kicks butt when he has to stop a fireship!

  • LOL I was thinking the exact same thing. :)

  • jeez.

you brits have us beat at television.

are there any other series like Sharpe and Hornblower?

  • Favorite part.. excellent acting and plot

  • Thanks for the upload!

  • Another fan grateful for the upload, sir.

Has to be one of the more gripping climax's I think though.. man handling a fire ship. Aha.

  • Just thinking of the distances we travel yet how far we've still to sail as men.

God I love this series, thanks for posting!

  • Thank you so much! I just started watching Hornblower as I was bored and had nothing better to do and I didnt expect to enjoy it so much! I was watching it on another website but that kept conking out and I was growing so frustrated when I checked YouTube and lo and behold! Thank you so so so much for uploading! I appreciate it SO much!

  • Ah, and thank you for posting!

  • NP your welcome ^^!

  • @funnyflyingdutchgirl thank u so much 4 the upload i'm a big fan of Ioan Gruffudd :)

  • @DioTheCynic 45,629 people have enjoyed watching this wonderful program that this person has taken the time to upload and share with us and only eight people say thanks for hours of enjoyment? Come on people. Doesn't the person deserve to be shown some appreciation?

  • Am I the only one who hears "hardcore!" after the "well done, sir" when they're retrieving Hornblower and the Captain from the water?

    I know that can't be what's said, but that's what I hear.

  • what he actually says is "Hold Oar".

He was telling the rowers to stop rowing

  • @DioTheCynic It's Capt. Hammond saying "Hornblower" but now I've read your commend I hear Hardcore. Damn you sir.

  • I love this episode of hornblower just for that argument between the two captains. "I congratulate you on your perspicacity sir!" Lol.

  • I love Hornblower's comment:

"My life is in your debt, Mr. Hornblower."

    Hornblower looks over at Hammond

"But not for long, it would seem sir."

    "Huh?"

    Beautiful!

  • excellent story.thanks so much.
