went alaska canada and usa for a holiday for 6 week's and loved it drove from L.A to BANFF then on the rockie's train back to vancouver then the volandam up the inside passage to junea and cant wait to go back who said there was no heaven
Be true...my uncle played this song when I was a kid...late seventies...I loved it and still do...couldn't wait to have my year of '93 either...proud to be an Aussie but love America...
Wow, I've always loved this song and The Battle of New Orleans. Thanks for the history of the songs appearing on the charts and Horton's death. Bummer, but he left us something to listen to forever.
This is such an awesome song---------even sounds great today! It was used recently in the opening episode of "Big Love" season 5 (HBO). We lost a truly great talent when he left us at such an early age, in 1960. I hope his songs will continue to be used in more movies/T.V. series, etc. We miss you Johnny!
I had no idea that Johnny Horton was killed by a drunk driver. Of course I've heard of Buddy Holly's airplane crash numerous times but this is the first time I've heard of Mr Horton's sad twist of fate.

He is one of my favourites--pure country singing, no frills, straight from the heart, yet lyrical

Johnny Horton was a great singer. It's to bad that he was killed in that car wreak. We sure don't have singers like him anymore.

That bass just gets me - what a great way to begin a song - nothing like the noise they try to foist off on us these days. Thanks Johnny & RIP.

Nice song and video... Sad that the singer died so young and at the height of his fame...
