I first heard this song some times between spring and summer of last year. It was the song that introduced me to Opeth, and since then I haven't looked back. This band is incredible.
On a side note, I also discovered The Witcher at a similar time, so whenever I hear this song, I can't help thinking of Geralt endlessly backtracking through the outskirts of Vizima. Still, at least that wasn't as bad as the fucking swamp.
This is benign and irrelevant claptrap; an utterly nugatory fusion of 70s prog and black metal that the Hot Topic kids will just gobble up. If you listen to this band, do the world a favor: buy a chain wallet with skulls on it and hang yourself.

Like Pink Floyd, Opeth's songs are well constructed. Not a bunch of riffs and ideas pasted together in an attempt to sound 'clever'. There is a cohesiveness that is the hallmark of any good band - and Opeth is one of the best.

Like Pink Floyd, Opeth's songs are well constructed. Not a bunch of riffs and ideas pasted together in an attempt to sound 'clever'. There is a cohesiveness that is the hallmark of any good band - and Opeth is one of the best.

Then, yes, I fuckin' love Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning, I won't pretend Metallica didn't pioneer thrash at all. By 'pop', the guy means 'mainstream', because it's exactly what Metallica became with the black album and no, they weren't thrash metal all along, it was way closer to normal hard rock than thrash metal.

They were popular and mainstream because they started playing music that was ALREADY popular and mainstream at the time. Most people who got into Metallica because of the black album bought it (black album), but never really cared about checking out what Metallica had ever done before that.

Opeth is Progressive Folk Metal. Its pretty simple listen to another folk metal band and then listen to another death metal band. Opeth is not death metal at all, i.e of what death metal is: Cannibal Corpse; constantly talking about killing people and death. That's what death metal is it has nothing to do with the style of vocals or guitar playing.

(of course there is some intense sarcasm for you) Lyrics are FAR from determining a Genre of music. Hell some Opera's have themes of death in it. Now for folk metal, I hear no comparison to Folkearth, Korpiklaani, Fintroll, Eluveitie etc.

I own Blackwater Park, maybe I need to listen to it more but the only songs that stuck out to me were Harvest and Dirge For November. Death metal is great, don't get me wrong, but at least to me their slower, lighter songs like this are much better than their normal stuff.
