  • can u help ?? how do you do the smoke effect in train specially when it run. plss help im doin my project now for school. tnx :))

  • @MrMadness28

It's a little complex (as in I can't remember all the numbers and settings), but here is the rough basics.

In 3Ds Max, I used Superspray to make the smoke and a direction wind attached to the loco facing backwards so that smoke travels in the opposite direction the train is traveling.

You will need to adjust the spray rate and speed settings of the smoke and wind.

The Smoke is 'facing planes' with a transparent smoke material applied.

Best of luck with your project.

  • @exveefan so you mean the movement of smoke while its moving the train it is depends on the spray rate and speed setting. smoke like effects in the wind something like that. ??

btw. tnx for your help ..tnx for the reply :)))

  • What N.W.R stands for?

  • @Vic7997 The 'No Where Railway', however this has yet to be changed to something different.

  • The animation is so good that I really want there to be sound. :)

  • I think #139 looks good as a passenger engine even though I have seen him pulling frieght trains in other videos I think he makes a great mixed traffic engine.

  • They all look good no matter what trains they are assigned to.

  • Very nice, what was the rendering time on that?

  • Because of the testing of Smoke effects, I did several different version of this animation.

So if I can remember correctly.

One version took about a Day and a bit.

But most only took a couple of hours.

  • Make a series!!!

  • Wow! Even has automatic doors on the coaches. Must be a concession to modern safety rules. :)

  • You know, you should try to make a Thomas with this type on animation.

  • Check some of my other videos :-)

  • Personally, I thought your 3D Thomas was more polygonal-looking than this one. Is there anyway you could polish up the edges on your Thomas so that the quality of that model rivals that of this model?

  • Oh, now I understand.

The reason Thomas is low poly was because I designed him to be imported him into a Train Simulation game.

So really he was more designed for Game then Video animation.

  • didn't the last test run have smoke?

  • It did, but I want to improve on the look and behavior of the smoke, so I'm experimenting.

  • youever thought of giving that little red engine a name?

  • Sadly no, you could say he like most locomotives these days that don't have a name.

I don't have name for the diesel either in the works.

  • very nice, your engine looks nicer as a

    4-4-0 and with coaches :)

  • Does The N.W.R stand for North Western Railway on the Island Of Sodor?

  • I'll let you figure that one out. :-)

  • cool

  • Very nice. Your 4-4-0 N.W.R. looks very nice with those coaches.

  • COOL

  • Nice job!
