In the beginning: Robert Think its a break and he's looking strange at Jones And Page and probably thinking: hmm ..why dont they put their instruments down .? .then Jimmy started with the intro riff and Robert got a peace of panic and wanted to hurry to the microphone ...he just forgot that there was one more song before the break ..,..things like that happen all the time at concerts..
Robert Plant the show was over. He was fixing to walk out but then heard the killer riff by Jimmy and came back in a hurry. It's True, I have the DvD and right before this he's thanking the audience and everything.
@xXXPrinceAlbertXXx i have i dvd that i got when i bought Mothership , but there is nothing about it ..its pretty much the same as this ...? Wich DvD do you have ?
just stick with it. I am 41 years old and Led is THE first band I remember flipping out over. Their music is so varied over the years. This song is just my particular favorite of all time. Nothing like having this song on at maximum volume early in the morning. Gets your blood to pumping...
@MonkeyWildCat And you just proved yourself to be racist, and can't spell the word "bastard" correctly. Don't go telling people how to speak English when you can't spell.
@MonkeyWildCat O dude, stop being such a cunt. When you've dried up all your tears, please realize that technically you stole the quote from Jimmy Page and turned into a comment.
@SuperPurpledragon He thought the show was over, in the song they play prior to this he says goodbye, and then as he's walking off they tell him that the shows still on thus the "oh shit" look on his face when pagey starts riffin
I've been that close to Jimmy Page - he played in Birmingham in 1987 - leaning on the stage during "In My Time Of Dying" - definitely the best gig I've ever been to
@horse69outside I'm 15, and i've been sharing this with my friends, i've been sharing this on facebook, etc. but nobody seems to be interested, Led Zeppelin is surely one of my favorite bands of all time, and yet my friends seem to like those repetitive, edited, electronic stuff. How I wish people of my generation would enjoy this kind of music. I would really like to form a band with fellow music lover like me, get some attention, and spread rock and roll. I hope other kids have the same dream.
im learning to play a guitar for 6 months now.. and everytime i watch this and many other led zep vids i just think fuck it i just go listen to page he plays a whole lot better than any form of human being ever will!
LoL, watch carefully at the beginning. Robert Plant thinks the performance is over and he's about to leave. I got the DvD to this and right before this song Plant thanks the audience believing the show is over.
@xnitronx its the same as the album version but when they play it live they dont have the technology to bring the same effects for plants voice that they use in the studio so all old school rock and roll like jimi hendrix janis joplin the doors grateful dead they all have a different sound when they play live.
@xnitronx Yep, just improvisation and it's sad that these jams in the middle of Communication Breakdown never made it on to the first album. The three versions of the song on the BBC Sessions CD have them, though. The beauty of Zeppelin lies in the fact that all four of them are of such musicianship (allowing them to improvise) that not two of these jams will sound alike; so each live version is different. Pure bliss.
@eigenvaluelp plus they seemed to know what each other was thinking during live concerts so they could do what they liked (when i say they i mean jimmy page going off on one with his guitar)
i gotta say, Jimmy's live tone has always been excellent... but at this gig, its just.... amazing... my fav page tone is from this gig. i wish i could recreate it haha
@Zeppelindude628 nah my favourite live tone of his is msg 73, might just be sound quality of videos but he gets sucha fat tone. or weirldy enough the 79 show at knebworth, dunno why i like that one.
@FRAFPDD ah well thats cool. the reason why i like it here is because it was so rich and raw. and at MSG it seemed more tight. which isn't bad, it sounds really good i just prefer the sound he has here... :D
When Giants Walked The Earth, I´d say, is a bunch of lies and crap. It may sound corny, but that´s what I think of it. T´was really amusing, "Hammer Of The Gods" was similar, but more informative to me, and not that focusing on negative publicity like Giants Walked The Earth. Sure, everybody judges that by self, but reading interviews is the best way to gain accurate information bout Zeppelin!
And yeah, Jimmy Page once was clothed with a Nazi Hat onstage in 1980, however- who cares? :)
I love this song! and it's true what SinoLastStand said, this song is a pioneer of punk rock, is sounds a little like the Ramones beat..but of course, this is Zeppelin, so it's better (:
@SinoLastStand i'm not really a fan of punk rock. they thought there should be no solos in songs. BUT THAT'S THE BEST PART. be it drum, guitar or in led zeppelins case often a keyboard solo
@SinoLastStand Listen carefully, this song actually is one of the first pre-thrash metal song. You got Led Zeppelin's "Communication Breakdown", Deep Purple's "Highway Star" and Black Sabbath's "Symptom of the universe" and some more( with Motörhead of course).
@Robstailey Punk rock isnt terrible at all. It does exactly what all other genres seem to fail to do. STOP POP. Before the Pistols, only pop. Before Nirvana, only pop. See a pattern or do I have to spell it out for the more ignorant.
Quite true. In particular the quick downstroke technique used in the main riff is what would later become the inspiration for artists like The Ramones and Sex Pistols.
