  • Modest is constantly evolving their sound...all u 2000 babies need to start at the fruit that ate itself then divulge to uglycassanova

  • Melodic uncoherent modest....composed out of brilliance!...

  • I love this song so god damn much.

  • "I changed my mind so much I can't even trust it. My mind changed me so much I can't even trust myself." Good god what introspective truth.,,

  • this has to be up there with one of the most moving songs i know. the whole lonesome drive album is fucking beautiful.

  • @sightsofsounds Lonesome Drive??? Those are two different albums. The Lonesome Crowded West vs. This is a Long Drive for someone with nothing to think about --------And this song is on 'This is a long drive....' Lonesome crowded west came out a few years after this song. Both great albums though.

  • man they actually played a whole fuckin concert there. i live just an interstate away from Newport. i would've LOVED to see this, even though i was just a little kid during this time heheh. but i'm quite a fan now of these guys now. The character of Isaac's voice is just novel

  • ya they have switched their style up a little bit over the years, but to call them mainstream is an insult to the greatest band in the world. when you think about it they've never really had one distinct style anyway and i believe thats what makes them the best band to walk upon this planet.

  • The epitome of fucking perfection. Isaac Brock has more memorable lyrics in one album, let alone one song, than most bands can achieve in a lifetime. And every album is amazing. I bet as he ages into his 40's his voice is going to just get better and better. Why can't there be any cute girls that like Modest Mouse as much as I do where I live? :(

  • though I miss the instrumental part, this one is played so much angrier. love it

  • I can't even believe they didn't play the instrumental outro, the best part of the song. That's a real disappointment.

  • It's mostly strings... I mean they could've jammed on the cord progression, but honestly I can't see how you can really hold that against them.

  • Got me there, I think it would still have been nice to hear them play it, strings or not. Either way, it was a nice performance.

  • they play the whole thing now bro, tom on the fiddle and everything. It's pretty awesome.

  • thats the main reason they never really play the stars are projectors, the song mainly consist of a small actually band (not saying strings cant be in a band, just suggestion for arguments sake) playing then abunch of strings joined in.

itd be lovely if they could do it. but they choose not to for the most part.

  • This song exactly describes a good friend of mine. Does anybody else no this person? (I mean in the sense that you know this exact personality?) Or is it you?

  • no = know

  • no = know

  • yes , this describes my former best friend to a T. when i heard it i would have thought that issac brock knew him when writing it. unfourtunality it is the reason we cannot be friends anymore. Its sad :(

  • why cant you be friends with them?

  • well from what ive noticed, they are trying to interpret more classics into their performances. i was at the st. aug. show in june, and a good part of the set was oldies (teeth like gods shoeshine, dramamine, trailer trash, doin the cockroach) and 1 or 2 more. i think their latest album will be much better that we were dead, fom the songs i have heard

  • what? new album?

  • they are releasing a new EP which is supposed to come out early next year? i believe.

  • no mabye eary spring or summer but no one knows

  • yea i saw em in june and they played dramamine, doin the cockroach and an epic version of trailer trash which kicked my ass. they encored with spitting venom tho, which fuckin blew my mind

  • I was only introduced to Modest Mouse about 5 years ago (and I am 26, where the hell have I been!?) but if you have only listened to their new album, you are missing out. I love the new songs, but the old albums are SO SICK, SO AMAZING! I can't stress that enough. I have seen them 3 times in concert and I'd kill to hear Teeth Like Gods Shoeshine. :)

  • I'm 16 and that is good to know!

  • AGREED! Their old stuff is way better than their new mainstream stuff. Even though their new stuff is great as well, the old stuff is just more modest mousey.

  • world at large is pretty close

  • i love modest mouse

but ilove there more emotive stuf like this and bankrupt on selling and stuff

  • is'nt that the sad truth

  • It saddens me that when I finally go to my first Modest Mouse concert they won't be playing stuff like this. If only I could have been born 10 years befor I was.

  • They still play it..

  • How old are you dude? I am 12 and saw them about a month ago in Rochester and they played Truckers Atlas and a bunch of LCW stuff.

  • @Maverac ??? i'm sure they still play Dramamine and Truckers Atlas. and if they ever would decide to just stop playing their old stuff altogether, then i would become waaay less of a fan of theirs.

not to be a panic maniac, but i just i hate it when bands do that shit: when bands turn big and poppy, they tour with only their corporate shit and seem to neglect everything they wrote b4 hitting mainstream. i think of songs like they'r children: you make them, u should care for them until u die!

  • @Maverac You'd be surprised at how much older stuff they play. It's pretty awesome.

  • so amazing

  • i love this old stuff so real....wish they would get back to a little more stuff like this
