Same concept as the store bought minnow traps I use often. Bait em with bread and catch a trapfull overnite. You need to leave one end out of the water just enough to let them get some air or they will die before you come back to check the trap. Usually have several crawdads in the trap with the minnows every time and an occasional water snake.
raw bacon is the absolute best bait for crawdads...when they latch onto it then will not let go...when i was little i would tie a peice of bacon to a pop cicle stick and put it down in crawdads hole..cokme back the next day and you got a craw dad.
I just pick my crayfish up instead of trapping them there pinches dont hurt as much as you think i might make a vidio and anyway what do minnows eat or what should i get?
@USAFBlachawk This is the same concept as the commercial trap and is a very old technique. I see no reason why this would not work. You can make bigger trap for bigger fish, but in most places it is illegal to catch bigger fish with a trap like this because it works so well. The fish cannot escape because they are too stupid to figure out how to escape. When going in, the hole seems large, when they try to leave they look for a large hole and cannot find but a small hole and think it is wrong way.
Nice video, nice trap. I have used it in England and caught about a dozen minnows in one go.
I admire your output Hunteddown, but you should listen to one of them. Your diction and flat voice make it very difficult to understand what you are saying. No offence intended,
You can get very good results with a collapsible lobster pot!
Dude, this is awesome! I have about a dozen of these I'll set out at various streams in the summertime. I use 3 liter bottle, though, bigger opening, bigger catch!
If you really want more trap space, take a second bottle, cut off the the top & bottom, and put the sleeve between the inverted dome and the original base.
Last summer (09), I pulled a trap and had a 7" catfish (or hornpout) in it!
A+ on the trap for simplicity of design. I'll add some duct tape or sticks to hold it together, and poke a few holes in the other end so water can flow through it.

to catch minnows you need a smaller hole. the bigger the hole the easyer it is for the fish to exscape.
