SXM is the IATA colde, which isn't as commonly used as the ICAO code, that being TNCM.

I've seen these Maho beach vids and wonder why there is still sand on that section of beach?

Do they have tidal surges that regularly?

I was just there last month, and if you look at the sand directly behind the centerline of the runway, you can see that all the lighter grains of sand are gone, it's all been blown away. It's mostly just the larger grains of sand and pebbles that are left there.

Warm but not too hot, and smelling a little of jetfuel. I stod behind a 737 taking off and I'd say it was windy. The sandblasting was not paiful, but it didn't really feel good. I spent four days getting all the sand out of my hair, including snorkeling and showers. Allthough, we tried to conserve water on the sailboat i was on.

If you're ever there you should try it or at least sit in the bar laughing you ass off of the people tumbeling down the beach. Bring a videocamera.

Ofcourse there is a danger element, but it didn't feel too scary. I've had more adrenalin in my sailboat!
