I agree with you man, IT IS ABOUT FUCKIN' TIME! I mean, both genres are slowly deteriorating. Linkin Park, whom I respect but am not a fan of, seemed to be the prelude to this eventually taking place...but me being from the old-school NIN "PHM" days, I really welcome this into our sub-culture!

Don't get me started on Linkin Park. They were a cool band til the rest of the world got onto them, and of course it'd be because of one of their soft hits. At first, I didn't see how you mentioned them being a mix of what they're doing, but you're right, LP's a nice prerequisite. Anyway, knowing that this blend is going down, I have hope for a lot of artist that may make the same choices and opening up to this new mix.
