  • Let's change that 240p into a 240D, and we'll talk reliability.

  • 240p we meet again

  • Nawet pduchy wywaliło!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bravo mercedes!!! really love my w123 and w124 muach muach!!

  • Amazing cars. I've got a W116 from 1977 and I feel completely safe driving it. Old Mercedes are incredible machines. ♥

  • when i was very young(16years before), my dad had a terrible accident. he was with his w123 on the highway and suddenly a golf hit him from the left...

both cars were destroyed because of the speed, well the point is that my dad was not injured, but the golf driver was bad injured, so MB saved the life of my dad, i dont think he had survived with another car

    great car :)!

  • @conadrium1887 now you gonna persuade people that ancient merc is safer than today's cars haha c5 and other new cars get destroyed in crash but occupants survive unlike in old cars which stay intacked but everyone inside dies

  • did you feel that i think we crashed i couldnt tell

  • What year caddy?

  • Wow hard as a tank. You don't see that in new Mercs anytime soon.

  • one of the last good cars they made, the one of todays are shitty

  • What is the sense of the last (real-time) test?

  • @aloisbembel do u mean the way they push the door in slowly? i think it is to test the strength and durability of the interior door skins, to make sure they dont splinter or crack in a side impact.

  • @aloisbembel to test the strenght of the doors

  • This is why I'm getting an antique plate for mine that simply says TANK.

  • did anyone see the guy in the middle at 15 seconds ouchhhh

  • That w123's are tanks. They go forever too.

  • @UberWagen indeed! and they dnt make the new benzs like they used to..

  • Old Mercedes-Benz ROCKS!!!

Car models older than 1980's CAN FOREVER LAST LONG!!!

  • THATS RITE BMW MERCEDES BENZ AND AUDI EVEN VW, NEWER ONES AND OF COURSE VOLVO ARE THE SAFEST CARS I HAVE ROLLS ROYCE PHANTOM AND ITS IS ALSO VERY STRONG BUT ID RATHER CRASH ONE OF MY OTHER THAN THE PHANTOM HEHE ITS MY DADS REALLY BUT ITS AMAZING

  • @LAXIEBABY123 suht up

  • W123 THE TANK!!!!!. IS A REALY SOLID CAR, TODAY IS NOT SAME.

DISCULPEN MI INGLES SOY DE ARGENTINA Y TENGO UN 230E 81 CON 140.000KM, ES UN HERMOSO AUTO. W116,126 AND 123 THE BEST MERCEDES OF THE ERA!!!!!!!!

  • @TheNICKMAGIC Tengo un '79 w123 200d pero no hablo espagnol. It's a great vehicle. Very solid and reliable. This is the first kind of Merc I've ever seen, and I think that if you ask someone to draw a Mercedes it would be this one for 80% of an entire generation.

  • @cipmars HELLO, I LIKE CONTACT WHIT YOU, WE ARE YOU FROM?. PLEASE SEND ME YOUR E MAIL. I PRESIDENT MERCEDES CLUB FROM ARGENTINA. MENDOZA CITY. PLEASE PRACTICE ESPAÑOL. MY ENGLISH IS VERY BASIC.

    UN ABRAZO.

  • Makes me proud to own a dinosaur (240D).

  • @RichyTheWolfDemon W123 is the best ! Proudly a 230E owner.

  • is it different from the 500?

  • 0:10 ... OMG :/ I'm not surprised, but...

  • my country has 4 million residents, but is the 2nd largest country (after Germany) where you'd find a W123 everywhere as a Taxi, specially in Beirut (the capital)... well it made Beirut famous, on many sites there are photos where there are W123 and the authors say it reminds them of Beirut... you'll have to come here in order to believe that it ain't a joke (THEY ARE EVERYWHERE) thanks for reading and have a nice day :)

  • better then a 2010 chinese car :))

  • @munteanuioan thats not really saying much, b/c that would include the new smart cars, which dont quite hold together against a large vehicle in an accident.

  • i love this car with more memory

  • 0:14 the dashboard has swallowed the baby.

  • @unreal3010 hahahaha didn't notice that :P

  • Was I the only one cracking up at 0:10 where the baby got pwned on the dashboard?

  • @ragonamuffin hahahahahaha no it made my day too lol

  • @ragonamuffin "Horribly funny" but funny nonetheless. Thanks for pointing it out. I'm gonna put a ton of money into one of these MB wagons. And by ton, I mean about 2800. Wish me luck.

  • lol GTA Admiral

  • @Yusep27 hahahahaha

  • Those old Mercedes were designed to last forever. And they did.

Ask European taxi drivers which cars they think were the best ever.

  • I own a 1985 W124 and a Volvo 740 Sedan Turbo also from 1985.

I think those are the safest cars build back then. Ofcourse together with the Volvo 240 and W123. But they were designed a decade earlier.

I feel very safe in both cars and a joy to drive.

  • Ahh, the good old days when Mercedes overengineered everything. One day I'll have that w123 diesel, one day...

  • is it hard to produce cars like this these days ??? driving a w123 is like sailing a ship between traffic, long bonnet and sitting inside comfy as if you are at home feeling safe and insulated from the outer world, nuthing comes near to old mercedes cars in safety and reliability, here most of the cars from the 80's are w123 w124 w126 w201 cars,no toyota's or any japanese or other german cars can live

  • I'm glad I own a 1980 280E. Amazing, this car with 185bhp. Everything makes sense and is designed from the driver's point of view. Simple, clear and solid. After 30 years of service last week I had to replace the clock for a revised one (10€), that's all there really is.

They indeed don't make these cars anymore. They are built for life, which is unwanted nowadays.

  • Roel280E you are right, no car can beat the feeling of driving a w123 ;))

Its like steering a big ship and you are the captain of the road...

  • The Germans know how to engineer cars, UNLIKE TOYOTA !

  • so the car looks to hold up great.. but how about passenger/driver safety? Looks like ALOT of movement out of the dummies.

  • they dont do high quality cars like that anymore

    especially TOYOTA is FAIL

  • 0:10 what's the point of the rear seatbelt lol

  • @KeeepDreaming its a test to see how unsafe a crash is w/o seatbelts,

  • loll over cars

  • They really beat the tar out of those test cars. Mercedes was a different company then, run by engineers not MBAs. Nobody runs a company like that any more; now you can get disposable stuff at every price level.

  • It may have been run by an MBA (Jürgen Schrempp). Now, it's run by an engineer (Dieter Zetsche).

  • Great car! Make sure you get the 280E the gas version. The diesels were a bit slow.

  • but the diesels last longar and are MUCH easier to work on.

  • This car was mercedes's biggest mistake...

they made it too good and reliable.. they overengeneered it...

  • and dont forget 124!!!

  • then why is it a mistake?

  • @Andrea1491to

It was mercedes's biggest mistake (said by some mercedes director or someone like that), becouse they didnt earn enough money from it... people that bought w123 didn't buy many spare parts and they didn't came back in few years for new car... they just kept driving w123...

Today, cars (mercedeses also) are much cheaper, and idea is making money from spare parts and service...Today w123 would cost about 70 000e

  • shut up you freakin dicked retard

  • this is no bad at all!!!

  • Oooh I want one

  • better than some of 2days cars :S

  • Comment removed

  • Seems, that the most poster just don't know the result for the MB... It was quite and close to inadequately due to the fact, that the body is totally inflexible. That means, the car won't be damaged that much in case of a crash, but your body has to imbibe all the forces of the crash...

  • Wow... airbag and crumple zones. In 70' ties and 80' ties ! Impressive.

  • Don't forget the seatbelt pretensioner at 0:20 ... :-)

  • That footage of the door being pushed in at 0:58 is from a W116 instead of a W123. Just look at the arm rest, the long map pocket on the door and the horizontal air vent.

  • never noticed that! thanks for pointing that out.

  • wow... nice eye... :)

  • SD 2010

  • A w211 would completely destroy a w123 in a head on crash you absolute spastic. Ha ha

  • @sammyseefatpoon

w211 is an electronic nightmare and no longer a benchmark in its class. Rust comes after 4-5 years.

Terrible and aknowledged failure by MB.

  • my father have 1 , around 2x year, haha it still good, keep it until now, i dont want my father sell it, if wanna get a new car, just buy new 1, dont sell this w123, because it is a tank. hahaha

now i using w211 feel no better than it, hahhaa

  • this merc is a tank on weels :D

  • 0:14 - 0:16, did the dummy kid behind just flung to the front?

  • lol I know its wrong to laugh but it looked so funny

  • Yeah, and that would happen in any car if the seatbelt weren't used, like here.

  • My father drove the w123, w124, w210 and the w211. I grew up with mercedes. But the quality of the w123 is legendary. When you close the door it sounds like closing a safe. As soon as you sit down, you realise that its as comfortable as your grandmas couch. The interieur is highest quality and better than everything you can get from mercedes nowadays. The diesel engines run over 1000000 km without problems. The 200d w123 is one of the most reliable cars ever build.

  • @Pappenheimer07

I'm never going to sell my '80 280E. Indeed, a comfortable safe on wheels.

  • im stupid that i sold it last year, safer than our plastic cars

  • Safe car. Just needs side airbags.

  • safer then today plastic cars :)

  • Like a tank without a barrel. Hardcore MILF car.

  • I own a w124, but the dream is to one day own a w126 450SEL, in my opinion the best looking mercedes' of all time. but damn w123's are good cars ;D

  • @vetlehe..no such thing as a w126 450sel

  • I love this car

  • That's awesome, how well the frame took all those different tests.

  • Last year, I decided to take a trip to Africa because I really wanted to take a Safari tour. When I got to the airport, as soon as I walked out the door there were about 50 W123 taxis. I took a ride in one and it was very smooth and quiet. I think it's very luxurious for a car that's 20 or so years old

  • @ loneknight97: Some mercedes-fans say that the W123 is the best and also last "true" mercedes.

(It's also the only mercedes I have been in - except trucks, Unimogs and public busses)

  • Only Porsche's had better manufacturing quality back then. But I'm not sure we can compare...

  • @loneknight97 At least 30 years old. Man, im so in love with this car, hopefully get one next week!

  • @loneknight97 quiet? diesels especially haha

  • My dad put a 1985 200 w123 up for sale on the internet a 4 years ago. After only 3 hours he got an answer on the phone and the next day two strange men came and picked it up. My dad's guess was that they were takking it to the Middle East and sure enough a month later it was gone from the swedish register. We still have got one w123 though, a 1982 230E.

Probably the best cars ever built!

  • why would it go to the middle east?

  • Many old Mercs end up there, or in Africa, when they get very cheap as nobody in Europe whant to buy a rusty old Merc if it isn't cheap. In the Middle East, and Africa, the estetics aren't important, what's important is the prica and that it will "never" stop going.

  • i sold my 300E 4MATIC 1 month ago and some african guy brought it from me i do keep track of it because i still have the vin on a piece of paper and i do carfax to see where it is today and it resides in philadelphia pa right now.

  • indeed they are I was trying to buy one here in america but apperantly lots of people don't take care of classics for god sakes the one in the best condition was full of stickers and dents

  • Mercedes is the best at providing spare parts even for very old models. But prices are very "mercedes-ish"

If you have some cash you can keep them running 'forever' - by which I mean "as long as you can get some gasoline" ;-)

  • In the Middle East and North Africa the w123 is very popular for its use as a taxi. For example in Morocco, the prices for a good w123 diesel ist much higher than in Germany. So funny.

  • that's because they have to transport them there, and that is expensive.

  • @90kar08 you bet !

  • Did you watched that Simpsons episode of the auto fair and Lisa sees a crush dummy test and she says " those aren't dumies" because they were humans! so funny! this reminds me of it

  • can you give the the link to that video

  • ufff I don't recall from which episode it is or season...plus it is very hard to find Simpsons episodes on line

  • misled, ever heard of Hulu?

  • Yes, they are making safe cars. Althought, the german cars are still better, we can´t compare the Mercedes s Class with any Honda. Yopu pay for it, it´s that simple! I

  • Airbag in a sush an old car?????

    Mercedes..

  • mercedes was the first producers of airbag!

  • Actually Oldsmobile invented the air bag in the 70s

  • they didn't invent it. they were just the fastest to get the technology into production.

  • The S-class of these years (w116) also introduced ABS.Later on, I think that it was available in the very last W123 too.

  • The W123 had available ABS by 1976.

  • @almasi72 I think it was 1980 for the W123, but It was available for the W116 in 1978. And they were already testing it on the /8 in the early '70s.

  • dobry nie to co chiczyk

  • built like a rock!

  • Mercedes-Benz 123 W Is the best car in the world!

  • Comment removed

  • @vismagangster you bet man !

  • wow looks safe!

  • Hey faggots show some respect for the best cars in the world

  • Hahaha best cars in the world?? Hhmm, maybe better than some american brands, but not the best in the world. Although older ones are tougher than the new ones, quality has come down a lot

  • I will agree with you there about the quality coming down, especially in the 90's and early 2000's but those older mercedes are something special.

  • Mercedes was the best car in the world until Jurgen Schrempp bought Chrysler and then he wanted Mercedes to do cars like other brand (less quality-more cash), but Mercedes engineers had a problem with that, thats why 1999+ cars have a lot mistakes ans less reliability. But the old ones are kings! Dont think russian cars are the best, im mechanic for more than 20 years, i know Volga,Lada&Co. Lada has low qualiy steel, one of good russian brands is ZIL. I cant say GAZ is bad, i had the old 24 :)

  • The only cars that can be compared with mb is BMW and Volvo... They are better than all the american and japanesse cars!

  • finally, someone like you that understands that mb bmw and volvo are better than american cars, im subbing to you

  • obviously mercedes, BMW, and volvo are good, but they are too damn expensive

  • @jorgefia what about audi? or porsche....

  • @jorgefia i believe it for a W123, but I have my doubts about the new models.

  • I smell envy...

  • Woa that's amazing, we're talking about a 70s car! nothing moved between the A and B pillar! some modern US cars don't do so well

  • Mercedes-Benz 123 W Is the best car in the world xD

  • The W 123 is not the S-class. And it´s extremely safe for it´s time.

  • E class.

  • they don call the s class the best automobile on the planet for nothing!

  • ma era resistente come un macchina odierna wow

  • The Safety cages on these are so strong even the jaws of life can have a tough time cutting it.

  • Love the 123's! i have a 115 and would like to have a 123 as well.

  • That baby was a fuggin rocket! lol

  • THE BEST Mercedes-Benz EVER!!!!

  • Po čemu?

  • po kvalitetu- ne kvari se uopste

  • One of the safest - and reliable - cars ever built. See so many of them still cruising the roads today.

  • I have one, drove it to work today. Mine doesn't have an airbag, which my sister was quick to point out (with the implication that it's an unsafe car). I told her that it's probably safer than a lot of cars on the road WITH airbags.

And they definitely DO rust, you have to keep up with it. Which the previous owner of my car didn't. But nothing that a welder (and you, with an angle grinder and good underbody primer) can't fix. If your car leaks water into it, FIX IT!

  • this is a tank not a car!!

  • Much Much safer then many new plastic cars.

  • I miss my w123 we were the first owners also

  • these are way stronger than humvees~

  • :09 look like a w115 or older benz than 123...

  • TANKS

  • holy sh*** have you seen the baby who were flying from the back seat to the front glasses ??

  • thoes cars are mega solid. a neibour has one and beleve it or not it still has the original pain. old scratches and hits till the mettal but the car is not rusted. now they focus on making the cars lighter and using as few steel as posible to reduce the costs..

  • had one for several years and beleve me it`t rusted on salty winter roads. and if it wasent regularely coated on the underside you could brake like flintstone after some ears due. mine still ran like new when it was 18years old,not using oil,but had to change a couple of doors

  • Show me a car of the 70ies/80ies that does not rust after 18years of use and probably neglects in maintenance.Any other car (other than the W 123) of this time was turned into kitchen casseroles after a fraction of this time -

  • A totally unique motor car. I regret selling mine.

  • Mercedes=Focusing on quality.

  • My dad drives one of these diesel beasts! Nice to know it's a pretty safe old car. I had no idea it had an airbag to be completely honest. Mercedes-Benz must have some kind of sick, perverted safety fetish. :P

  • Not all of them have airbags. If the star in the center of the steering wheel are chromed and there is no airbag text on the wheel = no airbag.

  • Ahhh OK. His car doesn't have an airbag then. Thanks for the info!

  • im wondering... the car had an airbag but no rear seat belts? i swear i saw some dummy flying head first into the dash from the rear seats.... cant see properly, watched 5 times already

  • hello Jonbee!

I was considering the same thg with the belts on the back. As far as I see, the back seat dummy has its belt ON, u can see how it stretches at the time of the collision. It is veeery strange though- the belts have a blocking sys so u cant stretch them (they keep u at ur seat, and dont let u hit the dashboard) and the 1 in the clip is just a shame 4 the company. Something wrong there. Mercedes is a safe baby no matter what. See "Brilliance crash test" 4 a comparison.:D

    -YANA-

  • id say it did pretty damn good for such an old car.

  • Im not a NCAP specialist but I've seen alot of their videos and I've gotta say the merc did fine

  • Lol! not bad for a 80's car xD

  • Ahh yes, reactive headrests. Never seen those in action before.
