Every engine... especially high performance engines need properly warmed oil before doing high revs.

I own a an E90 and when I bought the car the service tech told me that BMW has eliminated the problem so people in the north dont have to warm up their car before going. Of course any true car guy would warm the car up before a spirited drive.. plus doing it once isnt going to kill the car.. Its a German car.. its not going to break after a cold rev.

not true... you break the motor in how you want it to be driven...but its not good to rev the motor and then shut it off

you break the engine in to make a proper seal between the piston rings and the cylinder walls. regardless of how you choose to drive the car during its life, you have to properly seat the rings to get max compression and minimal blow-by and oil consumption.

That was correct and accurate 10 years ago. Not so much relevant with new engines.

There are two schools of thought. One says to do break-in periods like you're saying... one says to do controlled maximum performance bursts.. preferably on a dyno.

Yours is usually believed by americans (who still get break-in instructions in their owner manuals) and old school car engineers. The second and more modern is usually followed by everyone else including newly trained / educated engineers.
