  • I have owned this model S5280 for 5yrs and its still going strong. Although I paid substantially less back in 2006 I find this to be a top notch built machine. Never an issue and it still sucks (no pun intended) as it did on day one. The only thing is I might need to finally change the roller brush. I never took it back for a "tune up" as I'm unsure what they really do. HEPA filter WORKS for real. Love this machine. It looks beat up today but works like it did on day one. Worth the $.

  • made in Germany... nuff said!

  • you go faster with the kenmore which cannot pick the ''pethair'' up

  • Just got the Callisto...What an amazing machine! Love it!

  • does the standard electro plus head clean deep? because i own a miele silvermoon with the electro plus cleaning head and I don't really feel alot of vibration on the carpet during cleaning , I suppose the high suction improvises for a more aggressive brushroll?

  • @Pianocarneseur12 I too own the Silver Moon! That is the model I use to clean my home, and have had it now for nearly 10 years. The Silver Moon came with SEB217 power nozzle at the beginning, followed by Miele allowing the customer to chose between the 217 and 236. If your power head doesn't have a headlight, then it is the 217. This nozzle is designed to clean medium to low pile carpeting only, if you have thick carpets, the 236 or the new 228 are better suited for you.

  • which miele S7 Upright vacuum do you think is the cheapest?

does it have a mini-turbine brush tool for upholstery and stairs?

  • @bobcat101100 Hello, Thanks for your comment. The Miele S7 Twist is the cheapest model of the S7 series. The Twist doesn't include a headlight (no romantic vacuuming) or the HEPA Filter (can be installed after opening), but has the same power as the $800+ model. It doesn't come from the factory with the turbo attachment, but I'm sure if you called and ordered over the phone I could work something out. - Chris GoVacuum.com

  • @GoVacuums thanks Chris,

How much is it for the twist?

Does the brush bar on it turn off?

  • @bobcat101100 Hello, The Miele s7210 Twist sells for $429.00, and does have the capability to turn on and off the roller brush for cleaning bare floors and carpets. I can honestly say it is the absolute best upright on the market for cleaning bare floors, there is no better. They have incorporated several features into their uprights used on their canisters that make the S7 series superior on cleaning bare floors then any other brand.

  • In fairness, the Miele Callisto shown here is $900 -- how much is the Kenmore?

  • jk

  • Consumer Reports is worthless! If they think something is too expensive for their broke budget they crap on it, Miele along with Aerus being a perfect example.

  • I like your demo and would like to know how to deal with pet hair and small dust that are hidden in a dead conners with wires and underneath funitures?

    Thx

  • Thanks for your review. I'm thinking of getting the Miele S2120 with a HEPA filter. Have you tried the particle test on that particular model?

  • @mrmeiyen Thanks for watching and commenting on our videos. The Miele S2120 is a good vacuum. There are two different S2120 models, and the Delphi is the model that comes with the HEPA filter. We have done a particle scan on this model, as well as the S2180 Titan, and both of these models registered 0 on the particle scanner. In addition, you get the same motor as you get in the $1,000+ Capricorn, identical! Please give me a call if you have any other ?'s. -Chris

  • Hi govacuum i want to know if the aerus guardian is a seal system, and i want to if be a better choice then the new model electrolux that in the department stores, and could you do a compare between aerus guardian and the electrolux oxygen.

  • hey chris or go vacuum people i am in need of of a video on the melie stick vac i dont know weather to buy the stick vac or the windsor sensor i' need the cheepest melie i have 3 cats 2 dogs and one of my dogs is a shiba inu and she sheds alot

  • @colinatlantic Hello, In terms of the Miele stick vacuum, or their Universal Upright as they call it, I would not recommend this vacuum to you with all the pets you have in your home. A much better choice for pet hair would be the Miele S7210 Twist Upright vacuum cleaner. This model would be a much better choice for you with the pet hair, as well as better then the Windsor Sensor. The Sensor is a commercial unit with not great filtration.

  • he is handsome :) :P

  • When doing the "edge test" you moved over the area very fast with the Kenmore but took your sweet time with the Miele. Indicates bias on your part (understandable since you're a Miele dealer).

Whilst Miele is obviously a better choice a little more impartiality in your videos would go a long way towards your credibility.

  • @dzoig Thank you for your comment on our video. I'd like to ask you to go to your local Sears, and try this demonstration for yourself. You'll find that both Kenmore, as well as Panasonic Powernozzles (the maker of Kenmore) are terrible at edge cleaning. To be honest however, out of Miele's 3 power nozzles, 236, 228, and 217, the one shown herre (217) is the only one that can edge clean like this, the other two would do as bad as the Kenmore did. Thanks again for watching, and commenting!

  • Consumer Reports is retarded. Like a stupid Kenmore could ever compare to quality machines like Aerus, or Miele. BTW have you guys ever tested an Aerus Guardian for emissions? I think you would be quite impressed with that as well.

  • i am from germany and i dont know the other manufactor in this video but in germany Miele,Siemens and Vorwerk are the best cleaners you can get. Because those manufactors are serious, no fancy looks like dyson or whatever, just focused on do the job best, no fancy fashion devices like the Dysons.

  • so basically you want to know which one sucks the most

  • Which miele would be the best? do all miele's work the same? I live in a small apartment with all hardwood or ceramic surfaces except a big living room area carpet (almost a shag). I also have 2 dogs and 1 cat.....which miele would you recommend?

  • i dont get it how do bagged vaccum cleanrs work

  • I live in Houston Texas. What stores would carry the strongest sucking miele canister???

  • How does the Kirby Sentria fare in this same test?

  • I know they work well but my oreck is top of the line and is 550 dollars and this model is mid range and costs over 900 dollars thats crazy in fact thats 2 times the price

  • mikma was here

  • how does filter queen compare to miele

  • so is mile the best . better than kirbys

  • is the miele more efficient then the rainbow vacuum

  • @580678 The Rainbow is also a good quality vacuum cleaner. The Miele will blow 0 on the particle scanner, but the Rainbow does not. The Rainbow has a more efficient then most other vacuums, but only 1 has ever registered 0 on our particle scanner, Miele.

  • @GoVacuums PLEASE. THE RAINBOW IS THE WORST VACUUM I HAVE EVER SEEN. I love the miele!!! The miele is the most EFFICIANT vacuum ive ever seen in my 15 years of living!

  • @GoVacuums There is another dust test on Youtube, and the Rainbow has a lot of particles getting out of it. That's because the water produces bacterias. I have a H2o Vac, and i'm wondering what's the amount of particles getting out of it !

  • @GoVacuums Look at this test of the Rainbow :

    /watch?v=RveYYGg6hzU&feature=related

  • @580678 yes deffinatly theres the puring water in it and also if it tips over... the floors wet and also the miele has 8 settings.

  • I have always purchased Miele vacuums. They are simiply the best!

I tried the Dyson and it was horrible. Once you get a Miele you wont want to use anything else.

  • Seems to be a pretty clear advertisement for Miele vacuums, masquerading as an objective review.

  • I am also not a fan of having to buy replacement filters and bags. that is why I am partial to water filteration vacuums.

  • how strong is the suction power on the miele , getting pet hair off of fabric couches is the worst especially pug hair. will the miele do the job? I am torn between the miele and the rainbow.

  • @wadagoodgrl Water filtration vacuums are really a neat type of filtration system. Much more efficient then most bagged, or bagless vacuums at capturing dust. Your point about not having to replace filters and bags is a very valid point. Suction power on Miele is great, but vacuuming pet hair of upholstery is a difficult task, and really requires something with a rotating brush. When the Miele is equipped with the STB101 handheld turbo brush, it will eat pet hair for breakfast!

  • I have been saying for years that Consumer Reports are "on the take" You can use your imagination on that one right? Videos like this just prove it haha.

  • I have that exact Kenmore, it has probably ruined my view of canister Vacs.

  • That's interesting. I'll look into a Miele. My idiot roommate lost my Electrolux, which I very much liked, so now I need a new vacuum.

On an unrelated note, with your goatee, you bear a vague resemblance to Gordon Freeman. You just need some glasses and a hazard suit. :)

  • Toyota lies cover up,fraud pay offs, shame on the government ours and theirs. Fools would only support this company. Come out of the fog you can trust consumers reports like you can trust toyota for decades

  • i think sumones kinda jealous... LOL

  • No offense, I happen to be a semiconductor fabrication engineer and work with these particle counters all the time, even way higher end ones. I work in Class 100 and Class 10 cleanrooms, which cost $6,000+ per sq. ft. to build. And even with THAT kind of HEPA plus filtration, you will NEVER achieve a count of zero. Class 100 will go below 100, and that is achieved through many ways of filtration. To get ZERO particle count at the exit of ANY vacuum cleaner is physically impossible.

  • I don't understand how you can say that it's impossible when we just showed it on Video? This particle scanner measures only down to .3 microns, the Cleanroom particle scanners which we can also get are completley different, and measure down to a much smaller particle then this one. You can see this particle scanner in other places on YouTube as well showing a 0 count for Miele, I'd be happy to show you this live, and in person if you'd like to stop by our retail store, it's for real.

  • @lll0228 I second that. I also work in Class 100 (ISO 5) rooms, and do routine testing using particle counters. The testing method is suspect, perhaps an older bag and filter on one vacuum vs. the other having a new filter and bag.

Don't get me wrong, the Miele looks wonderful, and I'd probably get one over a Kenmore any day, but the vid looks more like a selling video than an objective testing vid.

  • @shawmutt

I also sell vacuums and that Kenmore had a clean bag in it ot it would have been worse, when I tested it was above a million, the Miele is always below a thousand even with full bag

  • Chris, I cannot agree with you more. I was the typical appliance buyer. Liked all the hype, features, etc. I had a DIRT DEVIL REACTION. Great for 1 year, then fell apart. I went down to a local vacuum store that sell various brands. SEBO, MIELE, CIRRUS, ETC. Anyway, I was very impressed with the CIRRUS CR-99. Bought it for $399. Have had it for 16 months, and I LOVE IT. Everyone has to do research BEFORE you buy anything!!! Is there any way you could a comparison of the CIRRUS? Thanks

  • this is so helpful and much more insightful than everything I've read on CR. THANK YOU!!

  • I actually own the Kenmore model used in the video. I think they have discontinued that model. Back in 2007, I bought mine on clearance for $160 plus tax. I'm certain the Miele is a better vacuum. If you don't have $600 to spend, the Kenmore is lower priced.

  • I made a mistake the Miele Callisto S5280 average retail price is $850 not $600.

  • This seems more like a Miele infomercial ?

  • I agree with the frustration with Consumer Reports. Many times I have bought the top recommended vacuum and regretted it. Have owned (at various times): Dyson, Bissels, Hoover, Dirt Devil, and Bosch. Dyson I loved but it didn't last. Parts broke, plastic areas cracked, the hose came apart in several areas, and underneath. The suction went away. It was hard to release the bottom to vacuum. Happy with my Bosch but looking forward to a Miele.

  • What Dyson as this and why did it happen? And when?

From what I've read, Dysons are made of actually bull-proof plastic that you can STAND on, and are VERY rugged, DO NOT lose their suction, and are very well built.

    /watch?v=YQIqFA-4Ows

Video explaining the high-quality, literally bullet-proof grade plastic used on Dysons.

I know this is true, as I have read many, many reviews that state this.

Either you got a bad lemon, your you treated it like a bowling ball :P

  • I'm a techno maniac, I always wanted a Dyson, because of the great Ad they made. The Ad let you think you will get a well engineered, hi quality vacuum. Then, I began to read about it in engineering magazine, and realized that Dyson is absolutely not about quality or ease of use, but about engineering. So with a Dyson, all what you get is a futuristic look and no Bag. I still bought a Dyson, but I regret it, because the vacuum is so cheap, and unpractical. I now have a 2 Miele. And my *** Dyson.

  • just get a damn hoover.

  • i own a filter queen and i have allergies should i keep it for get a miele vacuum

  • Chris,

Thanks so much for showing us this. I am a vacuum collector but I keep my mind to what people need and what a collector needs. No average consumer would ever think of using a kirby. But my dentist even bought a Miele! People love Mieles and Dysons. Maybe if collector would realize that our vacuumin habits are different the consumers you would have less controversies over you completely correct videos.

  • After owning many other recommended brands, I am also a Miele convert. It is the last vacuum you will ever need to buy,

  • I have the Kenmore in this video, and I love it, have had it now for over 4 yrs. Everyone worrys about particles in the air, what about our grandparents vacuums. man those old cloth bags with the same filter always. I just bought the new kenmore intuition and love it.

  • You're right. The older cloth bagged style vacuums are a nightmare for people with breathing issues or allergies, and Kenmore makes some attempt to put a HEPA filter into it, but if you have illness that's triggered by indoor air pollution, the hundreds of thousands of particles that are coming out of the Kenmore can cause some real problems. The Kenmore is a decent vacuum, but I think we showed in this vid. that Miele is a better product (as it should being more expensive).

  • ow and shows what you know again there made in malaysia....dive!

  • I LOVE THE MIELE!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i used to have a dyson , it was pretty , that was it

apart from that - heavy and utterly useless

    then i bought a miele

    had it 5 + years - 10/10 from me

    superb bit of kit

bought a miele washing machine - likewise

i used to be a neff / gaggenau fan - but miele wipe the floor with them both

  • I wanted to see that both the Kenmore and Miele bags and filters were clean before use.

It would be great if you opened new bags and installed them really fast to cover that base!

  • I don't want a Miele. I think I want the guy who is demonstrating the Miele. He's hot ;-) :)

Kidding aside, he is very cute.

  • I have a Miele S5211 and it's absolutely excellent. The price was a bit higher than other brands, but boy is it worth every penny!

  • i own an oreck accully 4 but two ultras one red one yellow and one silver xl 21 and i love them way more than meila or whatever spanish name it is. it looks shitty really shitty i love my orecks.

  • Comparing an Oreck to a Miele is like comparing a Suzuki to a Mercedes Benz. If you look on the back of your Oreck, you can see that Oreck's have a 4.0 AMP Motor (actually your $600 XL21 has a 3.5!) compared with Miele's motor which is 12 AMP. Oreck's got their start for cleaning hotels. Everyone knows hotels have low pile carpets, that don't need much suction power, but Oreck's really don't do well for deep cleaning carpeting. Oreck's price is $400 of advertising, and maybe $50 of vacuum.

  • i agree with you govacuums, on the oreck is cheap to make, and the rest of the cost is advertising. same thing with dyson, in my opinion, just $50 bucks to make, and the rest goes for the advertising.

  • You are completely correct, due to the fact Dyson does so much advertising, the end consumer is the one who ends up paying for that advertising, inflating the price of the vacuum cleaner. You will never see a Miele television commercial, Miele spends that money to build a vacuum cleaner, instead of paying for television commercials. Dyson vacuums originally had Panasonic motors inside of them (if you look closely on DC07 model behind pre-motor filter the word Panasonic), same as Kenmore.

  • @GoVacuums Have you not checked the specs on the dyson motor?

  • if you wash the filter too much, then the filters is go to be faded, and it going to lose performance.

  • if not the vacuum is going to recircuited dirt and dust right back in the room

  • at the same time the filters, do need to be replace

  • dyson vacuum claims that vacuum does not need filter to be replace and all you do is wash the filters

  • i thing the mila is ok i guess but i think dysons are 1 millon times bitter why didnt you include one of those in your test because if you did it would out proform them both! + the dyson dosen need bags to be replaced and has washable filters ect you have to admit that the dyson is a work of geniuse!

  • First of all LUKE from probably london, DYSON vacuums are the most over rated products period! trust me i would know. Dont mix apples with oranges. comparing an oreck to them is also a lame excuse. most people just cant be honest and admit that they are too cheap to spend their $ on a vacuum cleaner so they bash it compared to cheaper and less quality vac's. get you facts straight because this guy chris has.

  • dyson anything but overated they are the best vacuums out there! dont get me rong meiles are swell and so are lots of other vacuums but dyson just is the best! dyson has revolutionised modern vacuum design....and is next to hoover the biggest name out there...thats for a reason! so dont get at my mate luke who happens to live in LEEDS miles away from london!

  • are you serious? you have got to be kidding me! how can someone who has no clue, atleast im hoping because if you say what you just did and are inf act a vacuum dealer, you have to be out of business!..... or are ripping ppl off selling these waste of time dyson products! hoover?? do you realize that hoover is probably one of the most cheapest products on the market? everything made in china my friend. tell me, what do you get from china that is reliable? please do, because i havent!

  • first off everything comes from china these days because labure is so cheep! and i was refering to hoover and dyson being the biggest names out there as if you were to ask randomers walking down the street to name a vacuum brand they would most likly say hoover or dyson. this is because these vacuum brands have had a very big effect in the common vacuum cleaner......hoover actualy showing the world that vacuum cleaning was good by having the very first ones.....

  • and dyson changing hoovers old design and revolutionising it into something new, better and what prity much all the companis nower days are trying to copy (FOR A REASON!). and no im not a dealer just a vacuum colector, and i wasnt geting at the vid i thik its swell but i dont like you getting at my mate or saying that the best vacuum cleaners since hoover are over rated.......

  • 1/3 of dysons imployes are scientist and enginers, that is because they are obsesed withgetting there products to work the best!

  • Your a collector? well a collector who has any idea of what hes collecting would realize that a miele, company in which has been around much longer than dyson, or even hoover, is indeed the better vacuum. Dyson should stop putting all there $ into commercials and concentrating on making a better vacuum. People should realize they are getting crapy, cheap built vacuum with nothing but hype! and thats the truth.

  • no dyson dont spen very much money on there comercials at all! they do put it all into making there products the best! there certanly not cheep at all! i like mieles 2 but dysons are just better! and you obveosly have no idea what your talking about as hoover was the very first vacuum brand with the very first mass produced vacuum the hoover modle 0! face it you have no idea what your talking about!

  • BOORING

  • can you do particle test on Kenmore Magic Blue? (lol)

is there a reusable cloth bag for miele? it's not the cost of vac cleaner, it's the bags that keeps me from buying it.

  • well bags are bette than bagless and the bags are not costly

  • the callisto comes standard with the seb217 powerhead.

  • Yes, Stvnjr is correct, the Miele comes standard with the SEB217 power brush, and that is the power brush that we are demonstrating in the video. The larger 236 powerhead is usually only an additional $100 upgrade, not $359.

  • You many find that the Kenmore will move more easily sideways if you weren't standing on its cord while testing this feature!

  • Thanks for your interest in GoVacuum's Miele video. I understand how it could seem that because it seemed the cord was being stepped on that it wouldn't move sideways, but I beg to differ with you. First there is plenty of slack in the cord, and secondly the two large stationary wheels are what prevents it from moving sideways. I'd ask that you go to your local Sears and try this out for yourself, and you can then see that it WILL NOT move sideways at all.

  • Was going to give it 5 stars until you demo'd the Miele. Yes, there miles ahead of Kenmores, as they should be for 599.99 (Canada price for the S500 yellow star) not to mention bags are $19.99 for 4 and filters are $69.99 (again Canadian prices). But you also moved a lot slower over the debris on the Miele. The particle test on the exhaust was amazing to see though.

  • There should be two tests: One to test the HEPA. The other is to test the Miele's "sealed" technology.

For the Hepa test, it would be convincing if the particle counter still shows clean air when you're simultaneously vacuuming a pile of dirt. THAT is the real test.

The HEPA, even if it passes the test mentioned above, would be irrelevant UNLESS the Miele truly is sealed -- air tight. We need to test the seal, even at the wheels and nozzle entrance.

  • And on the perimeter of the filter itself, wh ere the gasket is.

  • all of it is sealed u moron. u do not need to test the wheels and the nozzle

  • mustang134, you're a good person.

  • My wife and I just bought a Callisto to replace a Dirt Devil upright. We vacuumed the house with the DD with a new bag, then we did the same with the Miele. Once through the house and the Miele bag was full. This was impressive and disgusting. We have 3 cats so most of it was fur not being picked up by the DD. My wife said after two uses that it looks like we have new carpet. Best $850 I ever spent. Great video. Thanks.

  • I've had a Miele Silver Moon for 8 years. It's the BEST vacuum I've ever had by far! Worth the price you pay. I also have a Hoover Legacy canister that is just a mess. Dust compartment fills with dirt, even though there's a dust bag. Miele's bag is self-sealing when removed. Hoover blows around more dust than picks it up.

  • If the green spongy thing is designed to insulate the heat of the machine, then it might possibly contain -- asbestos, which is deadly.

  • Asbestos? Are you serious? Asbestos is no longer used in products let alone a vacuum cleaner. LOL

  • I'd like to also reassure you that Miele, or any other vacuum cleaner manufacturer does not use asbestos on any part of their vacuum cleaners.

  • Okay, I double checked the insulation in my machine.

Using a flashlight, I checked as best as I could and found that the insulation looks kind of "O" shaped. Towards the farthest end opposite of the rotary fan or dust bag, the insulation looks to WRAP around the circular white plastic of the motor, like a ring around a finger.

As far as I can tell, in addition to there being insulation above the motor, all around the motor. like a ring around a finger.

  • I went to a local dealership, and his demo model has the same insulation look.

There's a motor. At the end farthest from the motor's fan is a white circular motor casing with some wires near it. Around this white casing, the insulation seems to wrap around it like a ring on a finger.

But a hefty chunk of it can be seen towards the top, where the vacuum speed dial is.

Using a flashlight, I can see a "hint" that the insulation might be on the bottom too.

  • I have two questions about the motor insulation:

    1) If you remove the HEPA filter, I want to know if you can see the insulation right above the motor. With my Callisto, I can.

    2) If you look at the black charcoal part of the HEPA filter, I want to know if you can see parts of this green fury insulation on it. Seems as if it's falling apart on my brand new machine. But minor. Maybe one or two strand here and there, but scary. I worry of breathing it in.

  • Ok, I just took apart a Callisto for the very first time (that should tell you something) and someone has absolutley taken your machine apart previously, because the motor insulation should be underneath of the motor, and not on top. Someone has taken the machine apart, and put it back together wrong. If you're smelling a burning smell, that insulation is actually damaging your motor, and you should NOT be using it like this until the insulation is properly put back in.

  • GoVacuums, you earned it. I will buy from you from now on, almost exclusively for vacuum bags and attachements and everything else, maybe even the S7 or newer model later on.

I will need two vacuums. The canister isn't that great for carpets. If I get the S7 when my current upright stops working, it will be through you, regardless of pricing compared to others, unless circumstances force me to buy local.

  • If you look at the charcoal filter, I'd like to know if you can see small traces of insulation. Not a lot, but like mine, just one or two strands here and there, usually around the perimeters.

  • When you say "underneath," do you mean as in where the three canister wheels are?

If so, then mine Callisto has been tampered with.

If I place my machine flat on the three wheels, then remove the HEPA, and then look at the "rear" of the motor (the opposite end of the fan), there is the insulation behind it and to the left (looks like upside down L.)

    Please let me know.

  • "rear" as in the end farthest from the fan.

  • or "rear" as in where the electric plug is. The insulation is there and along one side of the motor.

  • The motor insulation (green sponge above the motor) seems to come off bit-by-bit and get lodged, trapped in the HEPA filter.

I want to know if this is a defect or whether all Callisto's have this issue. Please let me know if you have little green furs in the bottom of your hepa filter.

FROM now on, I will buy from GoVacuum. You guys seem legit.

  • The motor insultation should absolutely not be clogging the filer, and if it is coming out of the vacuum, someone has opened the machine and put the insulation in incorrectly, where it is being caught in the fan of motor. There's no way this can happen by itself, someone has been inside that motor housing. If you just bought this machine as "new", you should DEFINTILEY return it. If the person you bought from is not an authorized Miele dealer, you will not have any warranty on that motor.

  • the authorized dealer is being stubborn and refuses to exchange or refund.

  • It's obvious that you're promoting the Miele. You vacuum the carpet at different speeds, taking your time withe Miele and being hasty with the Kennmore.

  • Greetings from GoVacuum, I assure you that we tried to be as fair as possible when making this video. I also will assure you that there is absolutely no dust escaping from the side of the Miele where the bag goes. If you do some research on the web, you'll find that Miele's sealed system is one of their features they spend tens of thousands of dollars to engineer. They are known around the world for this sealed system. I will try and prove this to you with another video, keep checking back.

  • yes, there are no dust coming out of the hepa area.

    HOWEVER...

Try putting that dust reader laser thing in other places of the vacuum to PROVE / CONFIRM that the dust isn't leaking anywhere else.

Yes, no dust at the hepa exhaust, but put the laser reader to the sides of the machine where you put the dust bag.

  • To be more convincing that the Miele has a better filtration system, which I'm convinced it probably does, try setting the machines at the same place during the test.

Perhaps the Kennmore's nozzle was placed in a dirtier place than the Miele.

But really, I'm convinced, kind of.

  • Great comparison. I actually own a Kenmore canister that quit on me after two years. I want a Miele very bad, but I lost my job in August and the price is just way to high for me right now. Any recommendations for a vacuum under $300?

  • The S184 Powerhouse...air filtration system...

  • Sorry, I missed this comment. Unfortunately the Miele S184 does NOT compare with Miele canisters, or S7 series uprights in terms of filtration. Miele S183, and S184 are better then most uprights on the market, but they will NOT register 0 on the particle scanner like their canisters, or their new S7 series uprights.

  • the miele canisterx are awesome

  • I'm surprised. Your response is really fast. I appreciate it.

The S184 Powerhouse is more within my price range, however. Please let me know if the filtration technology is any good.

  • Tell me about the upright filtration performance.

  • Greetings from GoVacuum, The new S7 upright series actually uses a Miele canister HEPA filter. The Miele S7 uprights use the same HEPA filter as the Miele S500 S600 series canisters. The machine has the same sealed system and will also register 0 on the particle scanner. Their S7 upright is definitely Miele quality also. We have been extremely impressed with this machine to date.

  • Kenmores suck. They leak germs and I know I dont want to breath that. Give me a Miele or Filter queen anyday of the week. BTW Great video!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i didnt think u like miele

  • In the UK the consumer reports rate the Miele the best cylinder vacuum cleaner, the Dyson is rated as the best upright along with the Sebo, I wouldn't get another Dyson. It should be noted that the Miele performed better than any other cleaner on carpet-including uprights.

  • Hi, Actually Consumer Reports actually doesn't get their testing models from the manufacturers at all. I have actually spoken with a vacuum dealer in New York who sells Consumer Reports some of the models that are tested. He is also an independent store like ourselves. Until several years ago Miele had a long absence from the pages of Consumer Reports after their live TV demonstration, disproving CR.

  • Sorry, that was supposed to be in reply to comment starting 'A funny story about consumer reports'.

  • This compares a specific Miele vacuum with an unspecified Kenmore vacuum. That is not informative or fair. Are you comparing an $800 machine with a $150 one? Anyone would expect the more expensive one to be better - much better. The giant advertisement for Miele behind the reviewer is also a bad idea if you want people to think this is unbiased. Also its strange out of every brand theres not a single Kenmore on sale at your site. Some business grudge at play here?

  • Of course we have a bias towards Miele, they ar the best canisters in the world. We have thouroughly tested them for years, and in every single category, they come on top. Kenmore vacuums are actually made by Panasonic, Sears resells as Kenmore. Sears is the only place you can buy anything with the name Kenmore on it. We do however carry all Panasonic canisters on our site, even though they are THE EXACT same machines, CR constantly rates Kenmore over Panasonic, which also raises an eyebrow.

  • I was disappointed to see how poor the new Kenmore's clean. The older models I used to own kept up with my Electrolux's.

  • can you show me how it works when it is full with real dust not a feather ?

  • its not a feather

  • The miele vacuum bags are not made from paper any more there made from cloth.

  • washable reusable bags?

  • i bought a miele at the previous posters' shop in vancouver, and it has been great the last 11 years. My father-in-law, unbeknownst to me, bought a Dyson and had problems with it 2 weeks in. He eventually threw it out.

  • I own a vacuum store in Vancouver, Canada. Without having seen Go Vacuum's videos, I can tell you our demos are carbon copies of theirs. Miele makes the best canisters and SEBO X4 is the best upright. Consumer Reports Magazine is a private company that accepts donations. They have been caught fudging results in the past. Check out their child car seat test. Consumer Reports tested some seats at lower speeds than others. If my store went by Consumer Reports results we would be bankrupt by now.

  • Thanks so much for posting. I have the exact Kenmore machine you tested, and I like it, but you may have pushed me to finally take the (financial) plunge and purchase the Miele. For your reference, to me the major selling points you presented were maneuverability (my shins cry in fear whenever I pull out my Kenmore) and air quality (seeing the actual number on the particle scanner is the ultimate objective argument for the Miele). Thanks again.

  • Very informative I'll keep this video in mind the next time I purchase a vacuum. I have a quick question, I am going to purchase a carpet cleaner in the next week or so, with a budget of 350 dollars; what would you recommend? Thank you in advance.

  • When you performed this test, did the Kenmore have the cloth hepa bag in it and was the bag "full"?

  • Hello, Thank you for the great question. We purchased this machine from Sears the same day we shot this video. The machine is brand new, and it has the original HEPA bag that Sears provides in the machine, and there was nothing in the bag when we tested it.

  • I just purchased a Miele Callisto and it is an awesome machine! Too early to determine if it was worth the premium (I expect to get many many years out of it) but my initial impressions are very favorable. Everything is solid and this video does a nice job highlighting it's strengths. I stepped on the hose the other day w/no problems. All components represent well built German engineering.

  • You guys are right on! Ive been repairing vacuums for 15 years and its nice to know that there are still other techs that know what they're doing.

  • "2. The dust output has nothing to do with which way the head is facing. No matter which way the head is facing, you are going to have the same reading, believe me I've tried." Then, your trial proved that the measuring device is wrong. There must be difference between the head just floating in the air and the head sucking dust (including invisible dust) by lying on the carpet.

  • Think about it. Both machines have dirt in the bag, the air passes through the bag, then to the motor, then exhausts through the filter. The air is passing through the dirt in both machines, this is where the particles on the Kenmore are being exhausted from (as well as the carbon particles from the carbon brushes on armature) the difference is Miele captures these particles, Kenmore didn't. I'll do another test, and put the heads where-ever you want, the test will be the same, I assure you.

  • Please give us more videos. You guys are really awesome!

  • Thanks for this vid! I'm planning on buying a Miele but I'm undecided between the Callisto and the Capricorn. What is the main difference between the two? Is it in terms of power or attachments included? I have two long haired, indoor cats and I have asthma. Which one would you recommend? THANK GOD I didn't impulse-buy that Dyson Pet. Thanks!

  • the main difference between the two is that the capricorn has a better power head and it has controls on handle and the Callisto you have to bend down to change the power

  • These vacuums are ok with the design, personally I don't like it because you have too much to carry around and worrying about the handle not coming apart and all. I think Oreck makes the best vacuums out there because they have 1 pass cleaning not 2 pass cleaning and mathematically speaking doesn't the air loose some of its suction power in relation to the amount of length it has to go? e.g upright vs this kind?

  • Oreck vacuums are about $400 worth of advertising, and $50 worth of vacuum. He claims that his vacuums are "Hypo-Allergenic". Well you should Google this word. You'll see the word means only that the material the bags are made of, won't cause your skin allergies. That's it! Oreck vacuums blow tons of dust back into the air! Also, with Oreck you're limited to cleaning the floor, there are no attachments on board Oreck XL. Oreck has 4.0 (XL21 is 3.5) AMP motor, Miele is 12 AMP.

  • Because Miele is a sealed system, there is no place for the suction to leak, or loose suction. Perfect example of this is Central Vacuums. You usually have over 500 feet of piping installed throughout the house, and you will find you have the same suction on the machine outlet, as the outlet that is 3 floors upstairs, there's no place for that suction to go.

  • my miele s4 beat my dyson on suction power when the miele was on half power.

    Miele has about 150cfm

    its so great

  • Thank you for allowing comments. It's funny how there is another Miele salesman on YT called "ConsumerReporter". He's a salesman, not a consumer, and has turned off comments to his videos. This doesn't give him much credibility IMHO. Anyway, the Miele does seem to be a fine product, I think Consumer Reports takes into consideration purchase price as much or more than performance.

  • no 1 in uk gets kenmoores panasonics etc we view these as budget choices most popular r probably dyson thye r ok not brill nd miele is getting rave reviews and vax were good but r a pile of doggy doddle now

  • This was a helpful video for me to watch. I will definitely get a Miele vacuum. I'm leaning toward the Callisto model but the Aquarius or Capricorn may be other options.

  • Good video! I bought my parents a Miele S4000 and they love it. Also upgraded it with the same charcoal filter you featured. Shame I prefer my Sebo K1 though.

  • Your Sebo K1 is also a great vacuum. I prefer Miele when it comes to canisters, and Sebo when it comes to uprights. We have sold Sebo uprights for 6 years, or when they first came to the American market. We have literally sold hundreds of uprights. We are still, 6 years in, waiting for our very first warranty repair. Miele gives you that type of quality in canisters, and Sebo for uprights. Both are made in Germany.

  • To me Kenmore is a washing machine name. They should leave the cleaning to Hoover.

  • hoover and euro-pro LOL

  • miele are better than any . and yes miele is better made than any old electrolux and even a riccar is better made than any old electrolux

  • Oh and one more thing, i have two vacuums in my home i of the is a Kenmore/Panasonic canister i bought 8yrs ago, now i have stepped on the hose ran it over with the canister, and the hose is still in perfect shape. My other is a new 2008 model, Aerus Lux Guardian, from Electrolux, I'd love to see My electrolux up against your Miele anyday.

  • Then answer me a question, if this vacuum is better than Kenmore/Panisonic canister, then why would Consumer Reports rate it at 6 or 7? Something ain't right.

  • A funny story about consumer reports, and Miele. 7-10 years ago, Consumer report claimed Kenmore filtered better then Miele. Miele took this personally. They spend thousands of dollars engineering their sealed system. So Miele decided to prove them wrong in a live TV demonstration. Needless to say, as you saw here, Miele blew the pants off the Kenmore. Consumer reports then black-balled Miele, and didn't even mention them for several years after that.
