There is such an incredible backlog of bands that need to inducted into the RRHOF. When I heard Grand Master Flash was was being inducted, that's when I threw in the towel. The only was to remedy this would be to induct several more bands a year.
Of the many deserving bands, the one that infuriates me the most is Rush. They should have been on the first ballot in the late 1980s.
This was recorded at the now gone Popular Creek venue in Hoffman Estates outside of Chicago. I was at the concert and they announced they would be doing the song twice so they could get plenty of footage for the video, and for the crowd to really get into both times. I think thats why you see Tom Johnson applaud the crowd at the very end.
@pheet Yep. The Doobies have done a few covers of Isleys' songs. And the Isleys did a cover of Listen To The Music to reciprocate the compliment - check it out - much different version!
The Cycles album takes us back the to their roots when the Doobie Brothers were ridin their harleys and playin in southern California bars... What an awesome album with most of the orginal members.. LOVE IT To Death.....
Without a doubt, Need A Little Taste Of Love is one of the very best songs of the Doobie Brothers. This video is outstanding, with a continuous flow of upbeat and beautiful sound through instrumentals and voices. Recording and performing together for decades, the Doobie Brothers are an exceptional class act with a ton of awesome material. I totally agree with the other comments here placing the Doobie Brothers in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Thank you very much for posting this!
Oh yeah, Cycles is a great, under appreciated LP, some great stuff on that album. Tom Johnston is really an underrated performer, the guys rocks. When and if the Doobies enter the Rock and Roll HOF, please take Chicago with them, why Chicago and the Doobies are still not in the Hall of Fame I will never know, but they seem to have time to enshrine a group like "Blondie"... Blondie in the HOF and not the Doobs or Chicago? Mind-flippin-boggling !!!!!
Great classic Doobie's sound. Kinda reminded me of Listen the music at the end....the sole guitar playinin the backgraound by Pat Simmons in this song is just like in Listen the music....I love it!
overdue for the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME. this songe shows how they bring elements of ROCK and R&B together in their unique way. get the album CYCLES and you'll dig every song on it. that's hard to say for most albums.
Wow-This "comeback" tune is now 19 years old!. I'll have another beer.............! They sound as good today as they did in the 70's based on their live at Wolftrap tunes!
I've met Tommy and he's not real tall, but he's in great physical shape. Pat's tall. Who's a big guy is Mike Hossack (not in this vid). Yes, they are truly generous with their time. Definitely some of the good guys around -- and Pat and Tom were simply meant to play together.
Seriously--there has never been a better one-two punch on guitars than Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons. This song is a great example of how a master strummer (Johnston) and a master picker (Simmons) work in tandem. Plus, the song is just plain funky. I don't think the Isleys did it better.
This is such a positive upbeat feel good song! I remember buying this on cassette, I think in a bargain bin!

I couldn't agree more they should be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame, it is a true shame that some other with far less talent are there now

The album Cycles was a great album with every song a good one. This song blends so well the voices of all the brothers, especially Tom Johnston.

@Feinmess Couldn't agree more! How can Chicago and the Doobies not be in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? There are others too- REO, Foreigner, Journey.....

@Feinmess Cycles was actually a respected, successful album in 1989,
and got a ton of airplay at the time.
It wasn't one of these reunion things that wind up in the 99 cent bin.
Problem is that the Doobies didn't continue studio output,
and Cycles has been somewhat forgotten as a one-off.

In 1989 this song hit the radio...It nearly killed me; later, it was my salvation. Like RIGHT NOW!
In '89 my girl had left me and I wanted to die...THIS was the tune all over the wave length.
Here I am, twenty years later..I both lived AND can enjoy this song for all its beauty! THANK YOU, DOOBIES!!!!!
