  • liz frazer does it without no voice effects check out this mortal coil nothing compares .

  • Wow, this is the first time I've heard this song, though I've heard of it. Fucking amazing !

  • although I do like the Twins version better, because Liz takes you there, like she always does, Sinead sings it in a way that makes you feel something different. Something less sad, but still moving. I like it.

  • you dont need disrespect the catholic faith , i should be banned all catholic public !!!!!! we dont need atheist terrorist singer !!!

  • This to me is one of the great versions of this Tim Buckley song, Sinead is produced more than most of her stuff but this is a magic sound. Powerful

  • Buckley is by far the best. He's basically the most underrated musician of all time, and lorca is probably one of the 10 best albums ever made.

He also destroys his son, by the way.

  • @heroiniskindacool

Buckley is not under-rated..his cult has grown massively since his death

  • @WhitesAwaken yet his fame is nowhere near that of Nick Drake, and the only album the "fans" care about is starsailor.

Lorca (his true masterpiece, and one of the greatest albums in rock history) have not been given the acclaim it so painfully deserves.

  • What a great cover - her voice is so incredibly soulful.

  • Great version.

    Sinead is amazing.

Still I prefer how Liz performs it - it should be minimalistic in my opinion.

Only beautiful voice does the best

  • mine to bu i just love this song i cry every day that lod *** man kid naped her

  • I love this version. The mix is just right and you can understand all the lyrics. As usual Sinead does and awesome rendition even if Cocteau did the style first.

  • This is just Sinead's attempt to copy 'This Mortal Coil's version. At least their track was different from the original. Sinead, your effort is just a weak attempt to be a new Liz Frazer; you rose like a rocket, and fell like a stick.

  • John Frusciante's version is my 2nd fav after Tim's.

  • Why is she dressed like the virgin Mary and why is she using a voice enhancer. She used to be GREAT. Now she's an arsehole.

Anybody like a drink before the war?

  • @denpunk666mitsos Dang...there goes the Archduke Ferdinand and Kaiser Wilhelm all rolled up together in one package looking for trouble again

  • @denpunk666mitsos becase he was physically ill, and is in her 40's?

  • @denpunk666mitsos I think this is a movie still from the movie The Butcher Boy directed by Neil Jordan. Sinead plays the Virgin Mary as part of a dream sequence of a delusional young man. Neat movie but hard to find. I agree also about her over use of voice enhancers...she does not need it but she must like the way it makes her sound. Looking forward to a new album from her. Rumor has it she has one on the way!!!

  • @carnivalofdead download REAL PLAYER ,real player will be appeared on the top of all internet videos , then download ( FLV converter to mp3 ) and convert this video to mp3 or Audio track !

  • this is absolutely chronic compared to this mortal coils version

  • mortal's coil is the best version

  • tim buckley!

  • Good remake, but Cocteau Twins still have my vote on this song over all other versions.

  • This is too annoying to listen to!!!

  • Although I love Sinead's remakes such as Sacrifice, clearly the Cocteau Twins did a better job. If she was minimalistic as she did on Sacrifice, she would have come up with another winner.

  • @Cerulean0987 it's acctualy a question of opinion. no specific "right" and if not "correct" judgement to be placed. just reflection.

  • Buckley was unsurpassable, listen to the Cocteau Twins version...awesome. and yes i love Sinead.s version!

  • @TheStephenclarkable you should try Ivri Liders version as well

  • Didn't know Sinead was so fucking religious. Ew. Still love it, though. Great job.

  • hermosa cancion , la mejor que escuche hasta ahora !!!!

  • This is beautiful, yep, but then our beloved Sinead became what she became, and the rest is history. Genius, followed by confusion and now embar

  • ok, i'm in 'producer' mode now. Love and adore Sinead as a person and an artist; the drums in this rendition reduce the [epic] quality of the original.if they were more ehthereal or translucent such as echoing distantly (Irish Funeral March). Elizabeth Frasers' version transcends time and place.

  • this is fucking good

  • Actually It was a Tim Buckley original but the this mortal coil version is amazing

  • Comment removed

  • Check out the original "this mortal coil" version

  • Frusciante version i love the best.

  • I think Sinead is a robot from inner Earth - not exactly completely alien, but not quite fully human. She exudes a definite weird coolness. I could imagine Annie Lennox doing this song with gobs of soul. I like soul.

  • very good! this song

  • grew up listening to liz fraser singing this song but loving sinead do it, too

  • Great Cover with the most beautiful voice of amazing Sinead. Sorry, but this could really be "her" song though I know it never was.

  • ¿Cuándo sacó esta versión? ¿When did she covered this song?

  • Do you see those few dislikes? I'm one of those.

I can't even compare this version to Tim's one.

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz horrible cover

  • ayayayay me hizo llorar, me puse triste

  • I agree with the 'LION & COBRA' reference. She was never better than she was then. This is an awesome cover and Sinead has the most beautiful voice and could sing a phone book and make me cry. Thanks for posting.

  • Fantastic cover, love it, perfect for Sinead.

  • Robert Plant & The Strange Sensation - Song To The Siren - Live '02 Austin is also a excellent version.. and I agree with many here.. it's the most beautiful song..

  • The purists are for Tim, my generation probably for This Mortal Coil, and those here are for Sinead. But it was the TMC's that appear to have changed the 'puzzled oyster' lyric, And the 'full sail' bit is surely 'forsook'. All 3 versions are entrancing...

  • Does Moya Brennan feature in this song??

  • And, humbly, if anyone ever needs more evidence that this great woman (in a line of great great singers like Liz Fraser) made this song "her own" then they need not look further than Sinead's:

"I was puzzled as newborn child..."

This is her motif, her mark. (In Tim's version, it's "as puzzled as the oyster").

Sinead WINS. God, does she ever win (with lots of love to Liz, too).

  • @Vengeance509

sorry, tim came up with both lyrics.

'oyster' is from the 1968 monkees tv show. 'newborn child' is from the 1970 album starsailor

  • @Vengeance509 sorry have to correct you there, Tim Buckley actually changed the lyrics himself, in later versions, so can't claim sinead did it, beautiful cover though

  • The lyrics are, most certainly, "when I was full sail".

That being noted, it is thrilling people are rediscovering this great song. And I do not agree in any capacity that Fraser's version is definitive. She is superb and apparently inspires some blind sort of loyalty from a certain quadrant, but O'Connor is also exceptional in every way, in this case. The ambience and delivery and intonation of her version is utterly different from that of Fraser. Totally. It is her own.

  • Love Liz, but Sinead puts her vocally, atmospherically, and mystically in the dust on this one. Sinead brings this Buckley classic from Liz's rather nasal lament to a transcendent new sonic, spiritual height. This doesn't sound anything at ALL like Fraser's take. This is Grade-A O'Connor. I mean, the inclusion of the Wurlitzer alone, MY GOD! Break the mold. Fresh fresh fresh!

  • This cover along with two others make it on to the new album Home. The others are Damien Dempsey's 'Factories' and John Grant's 'Queen of Denmark' which is just a brilliant choice for Sinead. Looking forward to June.

  • Hey Sinead Lovers, Check Out Her NEWEST Song From Her SOON To Be Released Full Length CD Called "Home". The Song Is Called "Take Off Your Shoes". There's A Fan Video Made For The Song Here On Youtube. The Song Is GREAT And Her Voice Sounds AMAZING!!! The Tone Of The Song Reminds Me Of "The Lion And The Cobra" Era!!! The Cd Will Be Released In June, Be Sure To Buy It!!!

  • @whillyem its on my channel ;)

  • @specialcases Whoops!!! I Should Have Checked Before Posting My Comment!!! LoL!!! I Should Have Realized It, Since You Have Such GREAT Sinead Vids On Your Channel!!!

  • @specialcases mine too ;)

  • @whillyem this is a fantastic cover version of Tim Buckleys Song to the siren - could have written for Sinead. Perfect!

  • sorry, sinead. i love you - but you took liz's vocal stylings. :( 1.) like her, you modulate your voice like hers in the chorus (sorrow). 2.) like her, you change the correct lyric of "fox" to "for sale". liz also sometimes sang the word "flotsam." 3.) like liz, you follow her intonation through most of the song.

this isn't a cover of "song to the siren" this is a cover of liz fraser singing "song to the siren."

  • @reieto Absolutely agree. However, isn't it "full sail", rather than "for sale"? Could be wrong, but it just seems more logical.

  • you need to hear elizabeth fraser's version from this mortal coil. the one this is based on. it is so much better. sorry, So Much Better........so so much better.

  • i love sinead oconnor but her raw power on the lion and the tiger lp is something to behold...only bjork has that higher gear. wish she'd cranked it up on this rather than singing it softly

  • ...is it Moya Brennan in the background vocals??

  • well, this version of this song gives hope, that the lover will actually come back:)

  • just lovely. reminds me and makes me long for my sweetie. i wish he was here now.. xoxox

  • robert plants is the best cover......this is a close second!

  • ich flipp grad aus,Gänsehaut,oh ist das geil, lovely

  • just gorgeous.

  • yea nice version..

  • John Frusciante and David Gray both did awesome covers of this song.

  • You can convert thiss to an mp3 at ezmp3grab..com

  • I have noted lots of fine thoughts, etc., and also venerate prior versions of this obscure, droning song, and with all due respect, this transcends other efforts by leagues. This is ambitious without detracting from the pure poetry, and via the arrangement, this song crashes sonically upon the proper shores it references ... gives it the intimate sex and yet the grandeur it merits. Sorry. Sinead has done this before w/ covers. Some don't like that she does it. Often. Yet she does it. ~Often~

  • @Vengeance509 Regarding YouTube comments in general, this is one of the best paragraphs I've read. If the rest of Sinead's new album is on this level, it could be her best in a long time.

  • @jimmiejoness I never said I hated Tim Buckley, I just don't like his style in music. It sounds too country to me, and doesn't allude to the sensuality of what I think sirens depict. But I have nothing against him or whoever likes him. Some people think he's amazing, some think otherwise. No need for name calling and insults.

  • It´s a nice cover, but the version of "The King" really touches me more in my heart. I think Sinead is too ambitious in being sensual.

  • I love this song. Tim Buckley's version and This Mortal Coil's versions are my absolute favorites. Sinead's cover is beautiful in its own way. My only criticism is why all the extra footage of the picture. Why not just end it at the end of the song?

  • I like this version , but it has so much instrumentation that I must say that the original by Tim Buckley and the cover by John Fruciante focus more on their voices which bring out the true spirit of the song.

Mortal Coil as well is more about the vocal setting the tone of this beatiful masterpiece of a song.

  • Sorry, although I love Sinead more than anything. Liz Fraser Did the best cover of Tim Buckley's song. Hands down. i was pleased to see it used in the movie "Lovely Bones along with another Cocteau twin's song called "Alice"

  • I like all the versions of this song, which along with Roxy Music's Mother of Pearl are (in my opinion) works of transcendental beauty.

  • I heard Robert Plant's cover this beauty song and also Cocteau Twins but none of this both is so sensuality. Thanks for sharing :))))

  • @eurofix Robert Plant?? Really? I must find that one and listen to it!

  • Wow. This is my new favorite version of the song (with the Czar's a close second). I love this song and Sinead made me love it even more. Because of this song and her version of silent night, I'm going to check out more of her music.

  • This version & the John Fruciante are my favorite. The Cocteau Twins do a great job on it stylistically as well.

  • hermoza cancion, Sinead la interpreta maravillosamente, su voz brilla!!

  • great song from sinead...i love her so much...hope she will start touring again and her kids are all grown up....time for her to appear again...in the music scene...plsssssss sinead

  • Preciosa, maravillosa, solo Sinead puede hacer que esta cancion brille mas de lo que era, su voz suena magnifica, Sinead ha vuelto!

  • Sinead's version for this song is simply the best among others. If you like this song, you better check Sinead's other remade songs such as: House of the Rising Sun, Sacrifice, I Believe in You, Streets of London, He Moved through the Fair, Love Hurts, etc.

  • More than many of her other excellent "covers," this song, with its mythos, pacing, theme, and plaintive lyric sensibility could have been actually "written" by Sinead--one of her originals.

Buckley's song is sensual; Sinead takes the sensuality and adds spine-ripping spirituality without sacrificing sex ~or~ God. Only she can produce this specific kind of sound, today. Ben Harper can do it, maybe a few others ... but she personifies and owns this stylism like no one else. No one.

  • Well put~

A Child heart that she resonates, best to grow wise, never grow old keep it open for the pure wonder...

I would add another fine vioce with wings.

    Ray Lamontagne - Shelter

  • @Vengeance509 you just sort of piddled over the line between sense and gibberish, there.

  • @Vengeance509

phah, don't subjigate her to that, she's one of many gifted lovly singers, don't turn her into something she's not, shes metaphorical, not a metaphysical hippy shite, cut it out.

  • I always thought this was the most beautiful song in the world. The best version is of course, This Mortal Coil's, with Elizabeth Fraser and Robin Guthrie. The Czar's version with John Grant is incredibly beautiful too. The original by Tim Buckley of course deserves a listen.

I have been a fan of Sinéad O'Connor for many years and this is another gorgeous rendition of, what I think is, the most beautiful song in the world!

  • @ThomasDeanNordlum Sheila Chandra got a version as well. Kind of easy listening compared to what Sheila normaly do, but defenetly worth checking out. You find it here on You Tube.Check out her album Moonsung if you have not heard any of her works. By the way, Sinead is fantastic. Still is and always will be.

  • @ThomasDeanNordlum I too believe this is the most beautiful song in the world, and I also agree that Liz Fraser and Robin Guthrie do it best. :)

  • @ThomasDeanNordlum Totally right that the best cover is Elizabeth Frazer but to say the original is 'worth a listen' is for me missing the sheer brilliance of Buckley and his delivery of these lyrics - the version he did on the Monkies TV was in my humble opinion - fantastic and Frazer did her own fab take which is always the sign of a great cover

  • Believe me, she's simply the best. My God what she has in her voice that captives us all. God Bless Sinead!!! I hope to keep hearing her for long long years to come.

  • This Is From The 2010 Documentary Music Of Ireland-Welcome Home. It's A PBS Show/DVD, Which Will Include A CD Release Full Of Amazing Irish Artists.

  • thank you for posting it Fan #1. I really love this song and this lady!

  • So beeauuuuuutiful... Thank you!

Love the image from _The Butcher's Boy_.

    "For fuck's sake, Frankie!"

  • I love this song, and I've listened it over and over today on my ipod.

    .......................

Here I am, here I am waiting to hold you.

Did I dream you dreamed about me?

Were you here when I was full sail?

    ........................

Hear me sing: "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you."

"Here I am. Here I am, waiting to hold you."

Sweet lyrics and Sinead redid it brilliantly!!!

If she keep making this kind of music, I'm very positive that she will rock the world again.

  • OMFG!! I can't believe she redid this song!! I am peeing my pants I am so excited! This kicks so much ass!!!

  • Beautiful.

Is this from her forthcoming album? Does anyone have any news on the new release. Sinead's been very quiet about this one, have a feeling it's going to be great.

  • As usual, so brilliant !

  • so what album is this on? year? love it

  • oooopss she did it again, she makes m cry a river, thank u Bernardette i love u , i love u universal sister, peace and love 2 u 4 this new song "chiquitita".

  • sehr schöne kopie ,,,,einfach geil ihre stimme ..... connor du bist genial

  • Great Cover Update of the song but I still love This Mortal Coil - Liz Frazier's voice and production too.

  • As she does so well with so many compositions, she has made this her own. This is now far and away the definitive version, if only because of the devotion that she invests in the song. That being said, I can't fault the updated arrangement, either.

  • Fantastic!

  • Please listen to this Mortal Coil's version of this - this is just not the same

  • Of course it's not the same. It's better.

  • @miinkie000 they are both great. Elizabeth Fraser and Sinead are both fantastic, I myself am so thrilled Sinead redid this song.

  • Finally. This song has recaptured her trademark sound with some new, powerful vocal vibes and experimentations. Very strong. She didn't write this tune, though; Tim Buckley wrote it and it's been fairly well covered.

A song made for her giftedness, tho'. Reminiscent of the mythology, pathos, and sensuality of 'Cobra' songs like 'Troy' and 'Jackie' etc., but very new, too.

  • If Sinead makes this type of music along with this kind of voice on her upcoming album, it's definitely she will rock the world again.

  • Hoping her new album will sound similar to this song.

  • Sinead we are waiting for your new record. You are just the queen.I love this so much,I listen to it over and over again.Thank you special cases

  • @specialcases, thank you so so so much for sharing this beautiful song!!!, and @ Sinead O'Connor, thank you so so so much for making this for us. Your voice is so amazing!!!

  • ...... ....... Did I dream you dreamed about me? Were you hare when I was fox? ...... ...... Here I am Here I am Waiting to hold you Beautiful song!!! Sinead's voice is absolutely amazing. I absolutely will get this song as soon as I could. I cannot wait to listen my baby Sinead's new song over and over.
  • it's not "Were you hare when I was fox?". it's "Were you were here when I was full sail"

  • Comment removed

  • Very nice song!!!

Sinead, you should and need to make this kind of song, and along with this kind of instruments as well. Sinead, you are still the best, and I love you!!!

  • genial ,kenn ich noch nicht ,DANKE
