  • Dreamcast died because of Peter Moore. That ass hat never knew wtf he was doing. I forget his name but... they shouldn't have let go the Guy that actually put the whole launch together in america

  • Sega could of made it with thier consoles.....but sadly, too many mistakes were made :(

  • LOL @ SEAMAN GETTING ABUSED XD

  • It's crazy how much the xbox copied sega... The online, and the controller... I bet if sega would have just put a DVD player in the DC. It would still be running the marking not only with game titles, but it would be ruling the online market.

  • Dreamcast blows

  • @SoliloquyOfChaos Fuck off

  • @KMCGamer Your mom

  • @SoliloquyOfChaos Just like your mom.

  • how the hell did that guy throw the soccer ball to the person in the studio!?

  • @papercanfly Sonic Adventure

  • Sega of America sucks they messed up the Saturn's life.

  • 1:43... name of that game please

  • The Dreamcast is simply a cool gaming console combined with MAME-like Arcade gameplay style all rolled into one. Even though I only played a few games on the Dreamcast back in the year 2000 at my friend's house for a few days and never played it again since but I never get tired/bored watching the Dreamcast gameplay videos let alone actually playing them LOL. I just bought a Dreamcast console w/ 2 controllers & a memory card for 10 bucks powers on but no AV cable to test it yet for now. SDC #1!!

  • I just bought a new Dreamcast off ebay a few days ago, hoping to get it tomorrow, or this monday

  • Dreamcast FOR EVER!

  • dial up lol

  • Dreamcast was such a gem. Last week I bought a PAL version with 2 controllers for 10 Euros at a fleamarket. It was filthy as heck and one of the controllers weren't funtioning, but after i disassembled the controller and cleaned it (along with the DC) it was reborn. Now it can keep my US Dreamcast company :D.

  • Hell yeah! 56k modems!

  • For me,the Sega Dreamcast was the Next Step console of all 4 consoles ( not the ps2 )

  • @indraluap

I agree with that. People think the PS2 was the true next big step in gaming, and it kind of was. But the Dreamcast was fully capable of carrying that title itself, and was doing up until the PS2 released.

  • 2003 i wish

  • @ioport idiot

  • @crocsand Unfortunately, no-one agrees with you.

  • I am glad that Sega failed because Sony is simply (in my opinion) better.

  • @crocsand

    yep, in your opinion.

  • @crocsand

Your opinion is worth Jack on this video.

  • @SiloNova25

    Sega generally fails with consoles.

  • @crocsand

Generally due to poor marketing decisions prior to the Dreamcast releasing, yes.

  • Really it failed mostly because it came at a very awkward time. As the guy from sega said they don't want to wait for brodband. Sega couldn't wait to release the system because they were sinking fast. The dreamcast is strange because as hard as it tried to be a contender with ps2 and xbox it still had this strange 90's feel to it. Sega wanted to utilize the technology people were using at the time. But that was a time when technology changed rapidly, sony and microsoft changed with it sega didnt

  • @mechanoid2k Though art not fuck with sony :)

  • "We're gonna take advantage of narrow-band internet rather than wait for broadband". That was SEGA's biggest problem. The jumped the gun instead of waiting for things to improve.

  • @thatsistheguy Yes, and it was because they didn't have the money to wait. In fact, they knew since the japanese launch failed (because of NEC failing to deliever enough chips) that they didn't even had enough money to support the Dreamcast and could not afford to put a DVD drive into it (they considered it at first). And that's the only reason why they stopped the Dreamcast.

  • @dziltener Actually the Dreamcast was discontinued for two Reasons, Software Pirating ( Courtesy of the Echelon ) and Xbox ( Courtesy of Microsoft )

With both System and Software sales dying in 2000 ( People pirated the games instead of buying them )

  • @XcXtrippyXcX the other issue was because back then people grabbed that ps2 for the dvd player as a secondary excuse. dvd players were expensive... had sega went the dvd route they may have just pulled it off with the dreamcast. I mean they did eventually make a broadband adapter... and with dvd support they would have had much more room to create complex operating system variations that could offer more features.

  • @dziltener Sega hoped that SegaNet ( The online Service ) would save them and make them some kind of profit, so much so that they GAVE DREAMCASTS to anyone willing to sign up for SegaNet but, when Microsoft showed up with a much more powerful system with better Online and everything, Sega decided that they could not compete and had just lost the one thing that was exclusive to their system, the online support.

So, they discontinued it in hopes of saving whatever was left of the company.

  • @XcXtrippyXcX I can only recommend the huge aricle at Eidolon's Inn SegaBase about the Dreamcast for really see why they discontinued it. It was because they couldn't afford it. And yes, pirating played a role - but it was not the only one. Also, the missing DVD drive (they just couldn't afford putting one in) played quite a role.

Also note that by Christmas 2000, they decided if they couldn't surpass the N64 they would discontinue the system. They missed, not by much, but they missed.

  • @XcXtrippyXcX Actually the Xbox was more like nail in a coffin, no the definite detruction of the Dreamcast

  • God I can't imagine online gaming with a dialup modem. I have a ps2 and a ps3. Never had to use dialup.

  • @wheels85 It works great and fluid. Because the games are optimized for it.

  • HAAAA Sega epicfailed with that one.

  • Sega worked with MS ... Well some of the CEOS did anyway.

  • peter Moore the guy playing soccer went on to oversee the xbox and xbox 360 projects. so what does that tell you

  • @xdr5thn red ring of death on 360 the 1st xbox was good

  • No Microsoft used SEGA as a guinnea pig, they tried to use Sony but Ken Kutaragi saw what MS was really after, SEGA was fooled into being allies with MS and the reality is that the xbox and microsoft ended SEGA's hardware bid

  • Wow 80% of gamers by 2003 will still be using a dial up modem? That was way off. By 01 my family had dsl.

  • still miss the dreamcast(much better than game cube/ps2/xbox

  • is this the man from Micro$oft???So yes he`s a traitor!!!!

  • I wish Sega would have stuck to their guns. I'd have a DC2 instead of a PS3 today.

  • @Asherdude Me too and I wouldn't be bored out of my fucking mind with a PS3 :P

  • NFL2K1 kicked so much ass online.

  • Sega never faced bankruptcy at all....it was well payed by Microsoft to develop games and stay away from the console business.

  • @Raonisk Yup. Microsoft can buy anybody out. As a result we get one ass sonic game after another.

  • @Luigi84289 You do know that SONY could buy Micro$oft out if they wanted to right?

  • @szor1 microsoft would never sell and would never have a reason to. Sony can't match their computer market.

  • @Luigi84289 Sony makes: TV's, computers, stereos, mp3 players, car stereos, blu ray players, shall I continue? Sony could buy Microsoft easily.

  • @szor1

Microsoft is worth TEN TIMES more than Sony mainly because 90% of the computer market uses a Microsoft operating system (i.e. Windows, MS-DOS) whereas the hardware market is more competitive.

It is sad that people like you call yourselves "computer technicians" when a 15 year old knows more than you.

  • @krisish00d

Actually sony is worth $17 Billion dollars more than microsoft.

Microsoft may have the largest os in the world but sony has been a huge company since before bill gates was even born and like szor1 said sony make a bunch of great shit microsoft doesn't

  • I still play my dreamcast today. As a matter of fact I just got done

  • @Scorpion24 loser

  • lol something with maracas

  • love the dreamcast, grandia 2 best game for the system---

  • when i turn on my dreamcast is there supposed to be an orange power light

  • @evillink125 If you live in the US, yes. I believe Europe got Blue.

  • Awesome stuff, I still play my Sega Dreamcast to this day, it's right here next to me =D

  • @niyooh loser

  • when i think on my best ps2 games are

SEGA games if sega did not make games for ps2 it haved suck

and the same with game camecube

    and xbox....

  • who knew who right 2:14 would be...

  • a job with sega

  • even to todays standards soulcaliber 1 still gets praised and back then it was the best look fighting game EVER! on any platform, better than ps2's tekken. man i wish they let the dreamcast live because games would look a hell of a lot better now, think of how many enhancements to the graphics the DC would have through development and the new ways they would make games to make them look better. it could of been done, the ps2 was hell to program for and it did it, imagine what DC could of done!

  • Seeing Soul Calibur for the first time was indeed a bit of a brown trouser moment.. It was so good looking and played so well - it was just miles ahead of anything else, indeed good for what you'd expect from the Dreamcast itself! I still happily play it today.

  • sega should get back in the console wars because they could build something really badass

  • IT'S THINKING

  • dreamcast owns microsoft sucks your mothers balls and sony is the shit

  • They lost.

  • if they already knew that the ps2 would play dvds before hand then why the hellllllllllllllllllllll didn't they build newer models with dvds in IT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i mean duuuu dumbass sega workers and why is sega of america's president british? answer me that!!!!!!!!

  • Oh Sega, you were so ahead in platform designing that if you didn't quit, you'd be kicking ass right now.

T_T I was so upset when they gave up.

  • nfl 2k1

  • lol, Peter just can't find his thing can he? First Dreamcast, then Xbox, and now EA Sports...

  • wasn't Sega all about graphics not gameplay?

  • Sega was all about Gfx AND gameplay! Sorry but look up Shenmue 1 and 2, arguably one of the 2 best games of this decade! Gfx were so ahead of their time, and ps2 could not handle the texture compression that the DC can.

  • "The PS2s Graphic Synthesizer (GS) only has 4megs of Vram. This is extremely poor. What makes it exponentially worse is that the PS2 has no real texture compression capabilities. Its rendering techniques also lack in efficiency because of how difficult it is to program for.

  • The Dreamcast has 8megs of Vram! Not to mention the fact that it can do 5:1 texture compression (sometimes 8:1 texture compression) ON THE FLY in the video hardware. That means that there is NO slow down when compressing textures because compressing and decompressing doesn't take up main CPU cycles. Another VERY impressive feature of the Dreamcast, is that the PowerVR2DC has Hidden Surface Removal (HSF). HSF means that any polygons that are not facing the user don't get textured or rendered.

  • Fuckin STOP GRABING ME !!!!

  • :27 Now bigger than music and film industries together.

  • microsoft copied everything from SEGA..

    Everything lol

  • No shit.

  • you know have you noticed how the shape of the dreamcast controller is similar to the original xbox controller? also xbox has the same color 4 buttons. and all the buttons are in the same place

  • yes and xnox was madre after, sony and microsoft just copy sega and nintendo :/

  • except for the add ons that turn the console into a complete eye sore. lol Don't get me wrong. I love Sega.. But they fucked up BIG TIME with the sega CD, & the 32X. They should have jumped right away to the Saturn & used the extra time to refine it & make it better. Then they could have gotten a good 7 years out of it before the dreamcast.

  • why was the sega cd bad other then that they wasted time making fmv games?

  • given the technology at the time it was pretty cutting edge as far as a 16 bit system went. But the load times were horrible being a single speed cd player. Other games were so testy that if you were so much as a pixel off you would lose. But trust me being a sega CD owner at one time I can tell you. It was a horrible experience. If it hadn't been for games like Sonic CD, Final Fight CD, samurai showdown, MK, & Silpheed the system would have been a total waste.

  • ok, only playes sega cd on emulator and games like sonic cd, lunar series, corpse killer and so on really dont have more loading time then sega dreamcast

  • idk about that. Have you played Willy Beamish on the emulator. It emulates EVERYTHING !! even the load times. lol On GENS however they foresaw this problem & fixed it so you could have a fast foreword button.

  • wel iromicly I use gens as emulator hehe

  • it's the best ! hands down ! :D

  • hmmm well i know that the dreamcast loads way faster than a ps2 and is as bout as fast at loading as a nintendo game cube so.

  • yes, I have ps2 games that have up to 40 sec loading times...well just to live with it and enjoy the games

  • hey i knew there was someone out there that would agree. I love my ps2 to death so many good games but i love DC as well possibly a bit more than the ps2 but i dont favor any one console i like multiple platforms but i just tell it as it is, the ps2 takes FOREVER to load compared to the Dreamcast its just a fact, the dreamcast actually has decent load times.

  • well it depends what u like PS2 better graphics more disc space dvd player more games DREAMCAST easier to make games=better homebrew scene better games overall (my opinion) VMU better loading times more dc games have private online servers then PS2 games
  • 100% agree with you, ps2 has better looking graphics now! if Dreamcast still had developer support like capcom, THQ, midway ect, it would have just as good as graphics as the ps2 hands down!, the better the developer knows the ins and outs of a system, the more they can use the hardware! thats why games looked shitty on ps2 in the begining and now they look pretty good! same idea with DC if it lasted tell now the software would look a lot better then it did back in 2000 soulcalibure is amazing!

  • well I must say dc was not good in the long run, N64 games on cartridge might be more expensive to mke but after a time most ps2 games needed to have 2-3 cds on the dc just to fit and then the price of dc games would cost way more then PS2 games

dc could have made 1.2 gb when ps2 had 4 gb but then dc needed way more games like shenmue to be ok and since to few people bought the dc sega would in the end not even have money to make any games on new systems

  • i thought it was good in the long run!? its all based on opinion right, thats ur opinion of it. It had a ton of games that were awesome on DC that were way better than ps2 especially in the begining! The disc space on 1 dreamcast CD is 5 times as much space as a 64 cartridge! so it would be expensive to keep cartridges around, but the DC is awesome hands down the greatest system made. Nuff said.

  • yes:), I still think dc is way better but if u really check all the facts the ps2 was better in the long run

  • oh yeah i know that from a consumer point of veiw but if your a gamer the DC is the best it was the gaming machine at least in my opinion, and shenmue and all the sega only games in general were awesome! dont get me wrong i love my ps2 but DC is possibly one of the best systems of all time! period.

  • They brought out quite a few shooters for the DC after it had officially "died" (Ikaruga, Under Defeat, Radiligy etc.). It still held peoples attention and was easy enough to program for that companies continued to bring out games based on the NAIOMI arcade hardware. Personally I hope there will be more Homebrew shooters in future like DUX, Last Hope and the promising (but unfinished) Drill.

  • but Microsoft suceeded

  • microsoft is just a bunch of greedy untalented assholes

  • @consoletimmy Well, I wouldn't say that. They have that nice service called Seganet-I mean Xbox Live.

  • @consoletimmy the xbox launched with dreamcast sequals lol

  • @consoletimmy because peter moore went to microsoft

  • @consoletimmy acttually they purchased it all from sega....sega and microsoft had real good relations since microsoft helped with the dream casts operating system.

  • @consoletimmy Microsoft helped sega, explain "Compatible with Windows CE"?

  • @consoletimmy and the dreamcast have windows CE

  • they should have been working on the games instead of playing soccer...

  • @JohnpRiddick Why? They made a huge lot of awesome games, so they deserved a little break.

  • @JohnpRiddick

    The games were great.

  • @BidwellRunner I totally agree, there just weren't enough of them :/

  • are you kidding me? the guy is a soccer guru and the dreamcast never had one decent soccer game.

  • Virtua Striker 2000.1 with arcade stick is arcade soccer god.

  • Maybe to you...;)

  • D:< DONT INSULT MY FAVORITE SYSTEM!

  • i wish sega was still in the market with there consoles they had such good ideas withe the dreamcast i mean they pretty much started the online console games

  • Meh, I doubt Ulala would go back in time just to fill in for some random CNBC guy...

But hey, she'd get me watching. One of the top ten hottest video game characters, IMO.

  • Comment removed

  • damn xbox stole dreamcast idea of online

idk if they steal make those i had one and it had better grapics than my ps2 but not my xbox

  • You do realzie microsoft help dreamcast by putting thier os in the dreamcast right?

Hell it even said microsoft windows on the console itself!!

  • hmm i didn't know that. but i have often wondering what is the windows nt logo doing on the dreamcast console. it says windows nt, but you never notice anything related to windows runinng when you turn the console on.

  • I believe it's the Windows CE logo.

Dreamcast was made to support the windows CE operating system (along with the native DC OS). Certain windows programs and games could be easily ported to the console because of this compatibility.

CE wasn't actually installed on the DC though, it was just supported by it. CDs that worked from the CE OS would have to include a copy of it on the disc itself.

  • maybe thats why burned games work

  • "Certain windows programs and games could be easily ported to the console because of this compatibility."

Not only that, DC players could play Q3A online against PC players, for example. And it also allowed programmers to work in a coding base very similar to something they already knew for years. That is why it was easy to achieve better results than many of PS2's first 2 or 3 batch of games, besides the more dated hardware.

  • It's the base of the system's software. It runs on the background.

  • ulala?pfft shes cool, but it shoulda been beat. hes sexy

  • LOL fail.

  • Dreamcast beats PS2 and Xbox, stalemate with the Gamecube because i love the GameCube, in my eyes Dreamcast vs GameCube was a draw, and PS2 Won over Xbox. the winners of that generation in my eyes were GameCube, PS2 and Dreamcast.

  • Narrow band died in 2000 peter moor is such a idoit. And now sony wonders why thier sale's suck peter moor sould just shoot himself!!

  • Not really, in 2006 over 60% of America was still on Dial up. Broadband penetration has only in the past few years overtaken dial up. And regardless Dreamcast did have a Broadband Adapter for those on a broadband connection.

  • i tried to acquire that broadband adapter but they are selling it for $100. which pissed me off, i just wants to play PSO but i have to pay 100 dollars? nuh uh.

  • 2000 was when everything was going good now dow at what 7000

  • Well 2000 wasn't exactly great either. That was right after the software bubble burst. More like 2002. But yeah better than now.

  • to me it was better like the economy wasnt doing shit like it is now . =)

  • that was so goddamn ironic

  • lol no one ended up having narrowband in 2003.

  • glad I wasn't the only one who chuckled at that :D

  • wow, that feels so long ago. I am old but still crushin the games. Gamer tag xbox 360 dwood

  • You're from Dunwoody, GA?

  • well they done and fucked up

  • This video makes me feel old lol :(

  • lol look at the Dow, good times.

  • I didn't notice that until I read your comment. Good times indeed lol...

  • Narrowband? Jesus.

  • It's cool how they predicted the future of gaming, minus the whole dreamcast fucking dying part.

  • Lol EPIC FAIL!!! thats fucking hilarious

  • How was the Xbox online before sega? The Sega Saturn had a modem in 1997 and its online multiplayer is still supported. Also the SNES and Genesis had modems too.

  • Dreamcast ftw

  • The volume was so low that I had to raise the volume on the computer I was using.

    4 stars.

  • Whatever are you cocking on about?

  • soon as GC and PS came out this thins went down like the titanic.... i never did like it anyways

  • I never trusted Sega for some reasons:

    1. They always release their consoles first, then another company release a better version later. Example:

Sega Master System vs Nintendo 8-bit (lost)

Sega Genesis vs Super Nes (draw)

Sega Saturn vs PS1 vs N64 (lost)

Sega Dreamcast vs PS2 vs Game Cube (lost)

    2. I dont like their controls.

  • Wtf are you talking about, Dreamcast was awesome. Dreamcast didnt run against ps2 and gamecube.

  • The Dreamcast was the first console out of last generation...so yes it's direct competitors were the Playstation 2, Gamecube and Xbox. The Sega Saturn was what went against the Playstation and Nintendo 64.

  • mega drive?

  • Mega Drive is what every other country called the Sega Genesis.

  • Yeah, I hate that there are 7 buttons on the DreamCast Controller than the usual 9 buttons on the Genisis/Saturn Controllers.

  • But be honest the Master System did have better graphics. Nintendo had a lawsuit brought against them for their monoplistic rule over games during the NES days. If Nintendo didn't rule America's gaming scene with an iron fist back then the SMS might have at least been widely known instead of being as obscure as it is.

  • yes, it has better graphics

  • That was a nice ass throw by the reporter at the end! lol

  • The Dreamcast was ahead of itself. The only system to successfully pull of online gaming in the sixth generation was Xbox, and that wasn't made possible until 2002. It's a shame the Dreamcast died. I'm sure it would have found happiness in its seventh generation form.

  • Hello Peter Moore Asshole!
