I give the operator a lot of respect, taking that hazard tree down and making it look so easy.

there is just no way to SAFELY take that down with a chainsaw in anything CLOSE to the time, nor for the cost of what the trackhoe did. if you look, youll see where it was rotten, and crumbled when it fell. imagine if there was a saw operator on the ground. those hunks of wood would simply crush him. excavator is safer, and cheaper.

Sure if it was a good solid tree I'd cut it down with a chain saw too but then I'd give you the shovel to dig the stump out.

@goodcat1982 With a chainsaw, you would have been left with a stump in the ground. It would have taken an experienced crew of 2 guys a full day, or a crew of 3 a half day. The way this excavator knocks it over and drags it away, reduces massive time and effort, simply from an armchair. Way to go farmer.

@goodcat1982 Actually no, that looks like farming ground to me. It's so much quicker to dig the tree out and let it fall then to cut it then dig it out. Because the weight of the tree helps pull it out. As you can see they have tried burning it out.

@goodcat1982 chainsaw leaves a stump, this sliced through the roots and got the whole stump tipped out, I think it's worth the time to use the tree's leverage to get as much as possible out of the ground.

@mngraham7 The guy that was operating this excavator is one of the best operators around. If you think he is really jerky on the controls as one guy commented this is because the tree roots under the ground that he is trying to rip through are over a foot across and are as solid as rock. I would love to see you do a better job. It would be interesting to know what it is that you see so wrong with his operation.

@cgspeeddemon1 Hi, a D10 would be the best way to knock the tree down but we had other work for the excavator to do while he was here and you would have a hard job finding a D10 with a root rake anywhere around here as clearing trees is banned in Australia, dam greenies, you can get permission but only if your willing to wait years for them to make up there minds about if your going to damage the environment, freehold country in Australia should be called greenie controlled country.

why did you burn the base/roots of the tree? and use a ripper like that to loosen them up... risk having the tree fall on your equipment... are gum tree's amazingly strong or something? I've always just dug out one side of the roots with the bucket to loosen it up then shove it over.

@darensmiles4 The burning around the bottom wasn't for the roots just all the weeds and junk that had grown around the bottom of the tree. Usually gum tree roots are bl##dy strong, they are kind of grow like a big tap root, but the excavator driver was amazed how easy this one was to get out.

nice vid mate....i wouldnt mind a lateral. Do you guys have a good bore allocation? And how are you guys going to feed water to it....we use center ditches.

Yer were really happy with the lateral, a lot more even watering and a hell of a lot easier than moving pipes.

Were on river water, so we've got 50% allocation and carryover this year.

To feed the lateral we have an under ground main line that runs up the center of the place and then the laterals hose drag, 200m of 5" lay flat hose with 2 moves in the run.

Then at the end of the run it can pivot and walk down the other side of the place. I'll post a video of it soon.
