@Pomybasterd , Hello, My favorite to carve is really Driftwood, and when you care it you usually don't know what kind of wood it is. All my "Off the corner carvings are done with Basswood or sometimes Butternutt. I hope this helps Pony, hehe!
Gary: I really like your stle of carving. I can't seem to find a 5/16 # 7.. Here in Canada we have Pfiel tools that are sold in mm and they do not offer a #7 that is that size (8 mm).
Thankyou for the quick response....I tried using a 6/8 and it resulted in a larger nose which caused the whole face to nearly use up the widith of the wood, leaving only about 3/4 " on the sides of the face for the hair. I will try the next one with the 7/6 gouge. Thanks again and I look forward to future projects from you.
@tibbisnow , Hello and thanks for the comments. I do wear a glove at times, but sometimes I just feel more comfortable without one. I always recommend that carvers wear gloves but understand that I have been carving for 20+ years and have very good control with my tools, I hardly ever cut myself.
@woody53pa, Hello Woody! Thanks for the comment. The way I cut the triangle is simple, I start with a 2'x2" block and rip it diagonally on my bandsaw. I could also do it with my tablesaw.
G'day whats the best wood to youz???

It was very helpful to have you show the tools you used. (You forgot to put the glove on, shame.)
I've been working on 'non-people' carvings and am moving into carving faces using your series.. Thanks for all the detail.in them!
