Thanks for a really fine video (both parts). I'm gona try this next weekend with a slight modification -- I plan to use a set screw through the nut and into the bolt to hold the (replaceable) copper point. Please make more videos on related stuff that interests you as I'm sure it would help others including myself. You have a real nice way of getting info across and together with the video clarity, it was very enjoyable and informative. Peace brother.
Could you make a video on making an antler handled pressure flaker with the tightening hexagonal things on the side? And the tip is a horse shoe nail you find at a hard ware store? I've got a box of em and I want to use em
thank you for the idea I hardened the wire and put it in an antler tine it's real comfortable and it's tight I drilled the hole about two inches into the antler the side i cut off thanks again
Hey James! If you drill a set screw into the side of the antler you will be able to replace the copper when wore out. Antler taps real easy and is hard enough to hold the set if not over tightened. I have a couple notchers made that way. I guess I need to post a few more vids. I didnt relize its been 2 years since this one. Take Care and good chippin
Just hammer your nail on four sides until it forms a point. I like the wire cuz it hardens with the spinning, but I am sure a copper nail will work harden a little with a hammer. Then just file a point and get to flaking.
I have been making my newer flakers with a set screw in a solid metal rod. You wont break one of those. All you need to do is drill a hole a little bigger than your nail or wire about 3 to 4 inches into the rod and then drill and tap for the set screw.
Nice job on both videos SCH. Your getter done good ol' can-do attitude is great. Especially using what is available without spending a pocket full of moola is too cool. I liked the hardening technique on the copper wire...since I was facing that very issue with my free piece of copper wire. Thanks again for the great videos.
