It is not easy to present this comment without implying "I know better than you". On my end, I am more than happy for multiple interpretations to co-exist. On a factual point though, "...for the answers" does not form part of the lyrics of this song.

If I am zero degrees of separation from myself, Michael Hutchence was two degrees of separation from me when this song first came out. It was the person in between who told me it was about the media.

On an interprative point, those lyrics could just as easily apply to the media as they could to religion.

I remember seeing a photograph of Michael Hutchence giving the middle finger to the media while leaning out the back window of a car. In true media style, they published the photo in the newspaper.

Once again, different interpretations can co-exist.
