When I lived in Sydney as teen, a funnel web as big as my hand cornered me in the front seat of our family truck while I was waiting for my host parents. It crawled out of the vents on the dashboard and sat in front of me, rocking in place like it was going to pounce. I grabbed a magazine off the seat and rolled it up to whack it away, when it suddenly reared up and I swear I heard it hiss! I screamed, "F--- it! The truck's yours!" and bailed out. Yes, I'm an arachnophobe, and that's why!

Between 1:14-1:18 that spider could have easily crawled up and bit his hand. I cannot believe he took his eyes off that thing for so long. Especially considering how close it was to his hand. Those things aren't exactly slow movers.
I'm definately not going to Sydney. As nice as it looks but this thing and the redback spider got me to not wanting to go. Not going to Sydney thank you very much. Fuck spiders. I can live without them. I would torch those motherfuckers first chance I get.
Isn't life grand. One of the most poisonous, aggressive spiders of all an it's about the only spider there is that can swim under water. Remember: God moves in mysterioius ways...
Dont have to worry about guns here in australia, you just have to worry about having the most venomous snakes n spiders in the world here in ure bedroom while u sleep. muahahahaha
Yes, FW spider is the most toxic venom, and it also produces more volume per envenomation. Also, FW do not dry bite, and attack repeatedly. But Australia has an excellent antivenine so deaths are extremely rare here. We all know to be wary of FW. Public education is good on this spider.
The Brazillian Wandering (banana spider) is responsible for more deaths because of the low availability of antivenine and larger population exposed to its territory.
what is it about Australians that give them such bravery to be in such contact with such dangers of nature. I'm not sure but still its neat to see someone actually take the risk.
Its called: BUGGIN WITH RUUD Ruud Kleinplaste is a Dutch born New Zealander who is a renowned entomologist. This clip (and a few of the others I have uploaded) is from his Australia episode. He likes 'bugs', but he LOVES ants apparently. They are his speciaty. Take a look at my other Ruud uploads ... White Tail Spider Huntsman Spider Funnel Web Spider Red Back Spider TV Guy vs Tarantula Tarantula vs Cooking Pot
they have the most venomous spider by there fangs big massive body my old friend got bit by one and now hes on a wheelchair i hate the mother fucking spiders
Yep they are deadly little buggers, but they aren't only around Sydney, they are everywhere along the east coast. Killed a few last week after the kids found them. They have been taught well what they look like and the proceedure when they come across them.
u should move b4 u get bitten by one and fast! just be care there might be one hidden in ur house some where. i am glad i live in cal. not austalia lol!
this is not the end ... you know...be logic and carefull with atrax and staff you leave outdoors. In my country for protection especially moskitos we set a cover at the window so nothing can pass or put floor- covers at the door of the house. i think spiders afraid of people a lot more than we do so be logic there is no need for panic
heres a tip if you ever go swimming go the populated beaches you wont find much dangerous stuff there only the occasional great white shark. go to undercover swimming pools in the centres....

Some things lots of videos don't tell about my local friends, tourists take note:
a) All Funnel webs will puncture leather hiking boots if they are not steel caps. So don't kick away these tough little buggers!
b) Sydney funnel webs cannot climb smooth surfaces. Note how Aussies catch them in plastic or glass containers!
c) DO NOT spray them with domestic insect spray, they are already mad, you will just make them really REALLY MAD!
d) Please, don't kill them unless the are going to kill you.

The Sydney Funnelweb (Atraxis robustus)
is actually less toxic than the Northern Tree Dwelling Funnelweb (Hadronyche formidablis) which ranges from southern Queensland to about Newcastle.
As a tree surgeon, I run into them all the time...........and they still scare shit out of me !
crocfme 2 years ago 3
Atrax robustus
Polish1981 2 years ago
Yes. I stand corrected. I think the venom is called atraxis....I get fixated on it.
You are well informed for someone who lives on the other side of the planet from these repulsive creatures. Cheers my friend.
crocfme 2 years ago
If you have not seen it yet, then you MUST watch the FW vid by MRABBIT10 and also the one by CADECAMERON.
No matter what doco you watch, it will never be able to properly show the true and awesome attidude and grace of the funnel web.
The video I uploaded with Jules Sylvester shows a female FW that is totally lame compared to the angy active ones in the two vids by CC and MA10.
Take a look if you havent seen them yet.
slk320k 2 years ago
There is a certain purity to these spiders,(I suppose!), I can't help thinking of Ash's last words to Ripley in the 1st Alien movie;
"I admire it's purity, devoid of frail human emotion and delusions of morality, it does what it does."
I just wish it would "do what it does" somewhere where I am not.
Interesting post, I enjoyed very much. Thankyou.
