Wow, such a good song. The first time I ever heard this song was when it was covered by the metal band Blind Guardian, I didn't realize it was a cover till just now. This is the second Uriah Heep song covered by a modern metal band that I have heard, I can see why so many people wish to pay homage to them in such a way. I've got to get this album.
friend of my mother brought me alot vinyl albums and also me and my mother found in some Cabinet of hard rock music deep, purple, alot of uriah heep,ac/dc, and more

@bunnygal079 OK .....Spinal Tap, as I'm sure you must know, is a fictitious group. The movie, This Is Spinal Tap, is a spoof on '70s bands like Uriah Heep. Bit if they had been an actual band they would have been better, b/c their amps went to "eleven"
@clucaspik ..Yea I've seen that movie many times and know what it's about. I don't think they would be better than Uriah Heep but that's just my opinion. I don't think it's fair a great band like this lives under such a shadow. Alot of their music was serious, and is up there with Led Zeppelin,Deep Purple,etc..
@dmBearcat You received a great gift there. I don't have to envy you because I have a collection from then also. Happy listening and don't forget to replace you r precious vinyl back in its dust cover. PEACE.
@dmBearcat Your old man is from my generation. Taste in music the same....can't do much better that Heep! Early ELP is good stuff, too! Early Grand Funk also good! :)
@dmBearcat youre lucky, my dad had a huge vinyl collection too.. about 300 albums.. sold them all for only 25 bucks like 12 years ago.. id wanna just sit there and bake to this shit too like my dad would also do lol

About the best vocals you will ever hear out of a rock band, with a lead vocalist that isn't named, Plant, Daltrey, Gillan or Osbourne. Great rock song, and the lead in acoustic guitar is brilliant. These guys should have realized what they had and stayed together longer. I'd pay to see them today in their original form. Fortunately I have this album on vinyl, loaned to me by a friend back in 1973 or so, and for some reason he never got it back.
@AtoZ2007 This original studio version is a C, but the easiest way to play it is in D with a drop-D tuning on the bass string. There are several covers on youtube, by varying bands of varying skill, and they all seem to use a different key, some are in G, some A, even an Eb with a capo... In the live version the Heep uses C, but the guitarist is clearly playing it as a D if you look at his fingers. I suspect my tuning fork may be off a step. Damn wizards.
i am 21. my dad taught me well in the evolution of rock n roll as well as metal. i love this band. my dad used to play it all the time when i was a kid. i love these years of music. but ill be honest.... im a metal fan more. THRASH METAL TILL DEATH!!!

It really is a little strange for me to read some of the posts from my younger friends about how they "never heard of this song" or "never heard of this band" but they are really digging the music! I used to have Demons and Wizards and The Magicians Birthday on 8 track and wore them out on my Marantz stereo. Love Uriah Heep. Yes, they actually used to play this music on AOR (album oriented rock) radio stations!
uriah heep n lsd many years ago,ten to 15 albums what a fkn trip,i travelled all over the fuckin place, let me tell you lol,all i can say is wow,but i only recomend once, cause you wont find your way back, best trip tunes.
@peniosasdasd I have to agree with you 100% I believe that there was a short window of time when Uriah Heep was probably the best group out there at the time . Demons and Wizards and then the Magicians Birthday great music by a great group
@badcoraphael I know EXACTLY what you mean. My husband died suddenly & unexpectedly when he was 40. So I have been "Forced" into being single and alone. If it wasn't for music, I would have gone out of my mind. I was fortunate enough to have grown up in the '60's and '70's so I had a great introduction into music which in turn gave me a great appreciation for it. It really has brought light into some of my darkest days. I "Know" that music is good for one's soul. It's kept my going.
It's funny to read some of these posts. Uriah Heep was my first concert in the mid 70's. They warmed up for KISS on the Destroyer Tour. I had this album on 8 Track. Don't know 8 Track? Ask your grandfather. Wow, I'm old... HA!
@goinggreyfazt Damn, that is amazing Uriah Heep warming up for KISS in the fall of 1976 was the very first concert I ever went to also.Definitely a kickass show and LOUD....damn my ears rang for 3 days, in fact I think they are still ringing. It was reported the next day that the concert was responsible for cracking the ceiling on Syracuse War Memorial...lol
@goinggreyfazt right behind you....I've seen them open for both Judas Priest and Jethro Tull , among others many times........and I was cleaning out a closet and found a Foghat - Fool For the City 8-track.......the one where he's sitting in the road and fishing down a manhole on the front....great concerts were almost weekly then.... i only go to see Iron Maiden anymore
@goinggreyfazt Dude I'm 19 and I know 8 track. I apologize for 95% of my generation being stupid. Then again with how old my parents are, I should probably have been born when you were.
@goinggreyfazt I get lost on some of the other stuff! But when I find myself on music from my youth I feel young again. The sound that comes from 8 track kinda sounds better too dont you think?
@goinggreyfazt I used to listen to 8-track as a kid (beach boys, elvis, and 3 dog night.. Cassettes were out, but we where the poor kids. It was good though it opened the world of music to me that I now love. Thanx salvation army music center (LOL)

@goinggreyfazt My cousin was at the Milwaukee show,I was too young to go ,but I cut the articles out of the paper the next day.Paul Stanley was on the front page.Back when it was just great to be a rock music fan.Nobody gets it these days.
@goinggreyfazt .....my 8-track...still works....and I use it all the time out in my garage. It's cost me $2 grand to convert all my 8-tracks to CD's or digital!!

Everybody's got to be happy, everyone should see.

I used to have Demons and Wizards and The Magicians Birthday on 8 track and wore them out on my Marantz stereo. Love Uriah Heep. Yes, they actually used to play this music on AOR (album oriented rock) radio stations!

Demons and Wizards: Most underrated album of all time?
Uriah Heep: Must underrated band of all time?
Yes, yes.
peniosasdasd 1 year ago 25
@peniosasdasd I have to agree with you 100% I believe that there was a short window of time when Uriah Heep was probably the best group out there at the time . Demons and Wizards and then the Magicians Birthday great music by a great group

@peniosasdasd not underrated, just overlooked
DrunkStudios 7 months ago
@peniosasdasd Uriah Heep, Hawkwind, Budgie and anything by Thin Lizzy and Blue Oyster Cult not played on the radio, all heavily underrated.

@peniosasdasd My brother had this album-but I listened to it. Very cool. In many ways it's unforgettable.

when you have nobody but you have songs like this, it makes life a bit more worthwhile
badcoraphael 1 year ago

HA!
goinggreyfazt 1 year ago 56
@goinggreyfazt I remember them from the 4 track & vinyl years...my first concert was AC/DC with Bon Scott as frontman...those were the days of Rock!
forkdriver500 1 year ago
@goinggreyfazt Damn, that is amazing Uriah Heep warming up for KISS in the fall of 1976 was the very first concert I ever went to also.Definitely a kickass show and LOUD....damn my ears rang for 3 days, in fact I think they are still ringing. It was reported the next day that the concert was responsible for cracking the ceiling on Syracuse War Memorial...lol

@goinggreyfazt 8 tracks are a great sound if played on a good system.

@goinggreyfazt Uriah Heep, I have all their LP's (that plastic disc) Absolutely brilliant, love em (even though my motherhated them hahaha)
martinsquier 1 year ago
@goinggreyfazt right behind you....I've seen them open for both Judas Priest and Jethro Tull , among others many times........and I was cleaning out a closet and found a Foghat - Fool For the City 8-track.......the one where he's sitting in the road and fishing down a manhole on the front....great concerts were almost weekly then.... i only go to see Iron Maiden anymore

@goinggreyfazt Dude I'm 19 and I know 8 track. I apologize for 95% of my generation being stupid. Then again with how old my parents are, I should probably have been born when you were.
silverblaze1992 11 months ago
@goinggreyfazt I get lost on some of the other stuff! But when I find myself on music from my youth I feel young again. The sound that comes from 8 track kinda sounds better too dont you think?

@goinggreyfazt I used to listen to 8-track as a kid (beach boys, elvis, and 3 dog night.. Cassettes were out, but we where the poor kids. It was good though it opened the world of music to me that I now love. Thanx salvation army music center (LOL)

@goinggreyfazt Uriah Heep opening for KISS............ hmmm ? Seems like it should have been the other way around.
A superior progressive/folk/hard rock blended group opening for some New York City 'Glam' Rock band? That ain't right.
ralphyboy25 7 months ago
@goinggreyfazt My cousin was at the Milwaukee show,I was too young to go ,but I cut the articles out of the paper the next day.Paul Stanley was on the front page.Back when it was just great to be a rock music fan.Nobody gets it these days.

@goinggreyfazt .....my 8-track...still works....and I use it all the time out in my garage. It's cost me $2 grand to convert all my 8-tracks to CD's or digital!!
