Holy shit, one more thing to do in country. I wonder if it'll record the impact of me smashing my ACH against various objects as I'm waiting in line for three hours for the download that only lasts "seconds". I can see an entire FOB waiting on line at 2359 on the last day of the month trying to meet this requirement. And holy shit, what are we to do in February? This will be a bullet statement on someone's OER.

in the future the helmets will plug directly into you brainstem and will transfer data back and forth between command and the ground so if they want they'll be able to move you with a joystick =Dq
Metal is a to weak material for the blast of an impact or an Bullet.
Metall helmets have been used, bevore kevlar helmets where issued because of an better impact protections.
METAL HELMETS ARENT MADE TO COVER A SOLDIER FROM A BULLET OR FRAGMENTS JUST FROM DOWNCOMEING STONES AND OTHER SMALLER IMPACTS WITH AND IMPACT ENERGY OF LESS THAN 50JOULE
@USArmyMediaCenter No, steel helmets weren't simply hard hats. After all, countless lives were saved by steel helmets during WW I and II, against mostly shrapnel and pistol threats, but an indirect rifle shot occasionally would zing off of one too. During World War I, one out of every batch of M 1917's produced was tested against a .45 acp and if it pierced it, the batch was rejected, which rarely happened.
, it is not too weak, it is too heavy, make the steel as thick as the kevlar and temper it properly it will withstand alot more than the kevlar helmet. The old steel helmets were made from rather thin sheet metal that was actually designed not from just stones, but from fragments caused by rounds being fired at them. Modern kevlar helmets are designed to do the same thing, they are not designed to take a direct impact from a bullet as even if it does not penetrate , you will be dead.
@TheRealTaco87 no metal helmets arent, there hevier, and are less effective in stopping bullets, id rether be protected from bullets than some stupid shockwave.
@mkf272 no it isn't because the pasgt wobbles about on your head, it has only one strap, and it's useless for medics because if you look down over someone it falls off
Now 4thID will be the guinea pigs. Why don't they find a way to make the pads of the ACH from a material that won't stink as much? They stink no matter what you wash them with. Unless you wash them gasoline, but that has its own problems.
A helmet doesn't help much when the shrapnel penetrates through your eye. Just as the IBA is useless if you get shot in the face.
what will happen if a soldier gets caught up in ambush and drops hes helmet and enemies get ahold of the helmet...?

wtf is the sensor supposed to do?

Kevlar helmets offer little to no blast wave protection. Metal helmets reflect the blast waves so in that respect metal helmets are more effective.

this gizmo makes NO sense for purpose described. what kinda blast data are they talking about that couldn't/hasn't been simulated by DOD?
