Impressive knives. I need to have more skill & the patience to paring the leather. Last year I just lost it & accidentally stabbed myself right through my fingernail...ew.
HiThere! I know the feeling. Before I had the good fortune to be taught by Peter Goodwin I couldn't par leather at all in spite of expensive specialist knives and then I saw how it was doe and it is so easy.
That is why I have filmed Peter for posterity as there are few master bookbinders left of the old apprentice school - seven years of training and 60 of experience!
I will upload more videos when I get the time as I find them wonderful to watch. Nothing like a master craftsman.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos on Youtube. It's best for me to practice paring manually & save money rather than paying £10 per leather piece ( any size is the same amount) to pare through a paring machine.
Thank you for sharing this often overlooked but so vital part of the process. A good finely sharpened knife makes paring leather a pleasure.
