Germany made a giant mistake: they must not invade the peaceful France, they had just to claim the borders back to 1918 with Alsace Lorraine and the eastern provinces....sadly they preferred to attack our neighbours, as we did one year later. It has been one of the biggest mistakes of Italy, our dictator brought us in a war not wanted and very meaningless.
@reading70 Dude invading France was genius, and France ain't peaceful.the only mistake that Hitler did was to invade USSR.the pretty much defeated Hitler in Europe, and USA in the Pacific.
@nemesis962074 Well, I think that Hitler did not consider the possibility of an entrance in the conflict by USA, the aggression to the Soviet Union was one of the biggest (if not the biggest) strategy moves ever done. What I don't undesrtand is if there was a pact between the Reich and the Ussr, why did when they both invaded Poland, the allies declared war only upon Germany?
@reading70 Because Germany invaded Poland first.UK was not interested in USSR,they were to far away to attack. Also USSR and Hitler had an agreement to divide Eastern Europe between them. Also USSR had never sing an agreement with any Western power, while Hitler signed an agreement to leave Poland alone.
@reading70 Another biggest mistake was attacking the Soviet Union which was bigger than France and though they succeeded in taking western Soviet Union, they were unable to take Moscow cos cold weather prevents them taking it and not only that - the soviets launched counter attacks that saved Moscow.
Biggest mistake is trying to take Stalingrad only to lose many many solders when Soviets went round the city and trapped them. terrible mistakes for Hitler!

@Fridomfry Berlin was visited once by Napoleon as far as i know. And its rather the French who dreamed of it, since the Germans repeatedly achieved their objective of capturing the city. I mean Paris was captured and then what? New generations of Germans started to dream to capture it again? How many generations did the French dream to capture Berlin? 12+ and ongoing?
@Teranex , in fact, until 1870 no French dreamed of a war against Prussia. On the contrary, most French liberals and nationalists admired Prussia, as it was a model of an advanced, protestant, "progressive" state, as opposed to Austria, percieved as a medieval, catholic relic. Of course the 1870 war changed all that for at least a generation.
@Teranex , mainly because their fathers had made gigantic efforts to take Paris in 1914-1918 (remember that even a "Pariser Einzug der Deutschen Armee, Sept. 1914" medal had been made just before the battle of the Marne, which had to be shelved). And also because generations of Germans had learned to consider these troublesome, braggard Galls as troublemakers who kept invading Germany, and needed to be taught a serious lesson.
@Fridomfry So that makes them dream about capturing the city? In Hitler ideology the primary objective was to gain new lands in the east, its France own fought that it declared war upon Germany while they were trying to do so. And 20 years is 3 generations for you?
@Teranex , no, by "generations of Germans", I meant: from the 19th century to 1945. Hitler's ideology was one thing, the dream about capturing Paris was a different one, certainly more common among the Wehrmacht, once France had been stupid enough to declare war at the worst possible moment. I have read a few German officers's diaries or memoirs: In June 1940 they were amazed to be in Paris, "for which our fathers had fought vainly during 4 dreadful years in the trenches".
@Fridomfry They captured it 1871 why should they dream about it lol if they realized that objective? And why till 1945? They captured in 1940 already. That proves that A)It was only one generation which was dreaming of it (Even if). B)I still don't know whats your point with saying that they dreamed of it, its not as if it was impossible Paris was captured quite some times.
There are Nazis in Paris and they going Gorillas!!!!!
