  • Me (lanny) & my mate willis went see these at vicky hall stoke-on-trent 1980 QUALITY

  • fuck a mod fuck a mod fuck a mod today

  • Thanks for the memories! One of the best tunes in terms of lyrics and instrumental. Got these on 45 vinyl in the loft somewhere !!

  • We are the MODS

  • brilliant song.haven't seen the video for 30 years.magic.

  • Bob on this.

  • Glory Boys the album was fricking stellar. Blindingly brilliant it has been on my playlist since 1979! behind Closed Doors killed the band awful apart from a couple of good singles, piss poor production as well. The last album should have been the second.

  • great memories....one of my all time faves...WE ARE THE MODS!

  • Secret Affair play their annual London show @ The 229 Club, Gt Portland Street, Nov 26th 2011!!

  • Beautiful. SA should be more than just a footnote in music's annals...

  • a great memory, i saw these guys at sheffield city hall in 1980/81 thanks for posting the vid'

  • Brings back real good memories of the parties in Hornchurch at local halls. I remember going down to Mintz and Davies in Romford for Fred Perry, Ben Shermans and Harringtons. There was a whole Mod culture in Hornchurch at the time and I was 16/17 and loving every minute.

  • same here just turned 46 lol

    Happy Days :)

  • First caught Secret Affair on the Mods May day 79 album and have been with me ever since I'm 46 and goin on strong LOL

  • @dizzyfergy Now den fella I was listening to Mods May day as a 15 year old boy, dreaming of owning me own scoot chrome bradford bars a bird on the back.I had USA PARKER, I was livin the dream, watchng an listening to quadrephenia. awsome. don't want to go back though. loved it all though off to the youthy

  • What a fucking song, older bro used to play this all the time when i was just a wee boy.

  • Secret Affair, this world is yours!

  • Top mod band from 80s GOING TO SEE THEM AT KELSO SCOOT RALLY 27TH MAY 2011 SEE YOU THERE PAT

  • Fkg great....no more words to say :)

  • Real guitarist's song this... the business with the electric 12 sting plugged in.

  • A Mod anthem

  • is it just me or is this fookin awesome!!??

  • im 50 next ,seems like yesterday i was dancing to this in packed pubs 7 days a week, whats happened to this country

  • @madness2901 im 48 pal and it seems like last year when i was on the dance floor to this song not 30 years ago . ps i bet your not down the pub 7 days a week also these days lol

  • @madness2901 it's fucked thats all ,sounds like you were having a good time while it was happening.great tune they were very polished tight group

  • @madness2901 it's fucked thats all ,sounds like you were having a good time while it was happening.great tune they were very polished tight group. If the jam hadn't come along this would have been the band everyone wanted

  • @edwards21416 But the Jam were big by this time ; I remember seeing them on tv in early 1977

  • @TheKenfig the Jam weren't real mods though in my mind. played geat Mod music but secret affair Merton Parks, the Who, Lambrettas you know the dance fella. great sound but did they doMods may day narr. Don't get me wrong I've jam tunes on me play list can't go wrong Paul weller and Bruce who was broken heartd when Paul broke em up to form the bad poor Style council. Money bug had got to the Modfather. Having it be well dude. Mods rule!!!! back in the day lol

  • @iktomi5 Yes, the Jam were into the Kinks as well, but Weller seems to style himself a lot on Steve Marriott from the Small Faces, even in his solo post Style Council era with the image and the 'plastic white soul' stuff. I don't like the solo music of Paul Weller and I liked the Jam best until 1980.For me their crowning glory is the '79 album 'Setting Sons' which has great songs & a heavy and chunky sound ; less pop-ish than 'All Mod Cons' (1978) and not as psychadelic as 'Sound Affects' (1980)

  • Date an Asian lady lushfmlk.info

  • This is by far the best song of the 80s wish it was 1980 agian 17 year old out with my mates on the town best time of my life . 47 yesterday but this track still gets me up on the floor

  • @kenmacaulay600 i,m with you mate..

  • @kenmacaulay600 ME TOO ! - I was 17 for most of 1980 and now I'm 48 ; life was awesome then when you still lived at home with no bills or worries / responsibilities ; could drink as much lager as you wanted 3 nights a week and not even get a hangover !!

  • @kenmacaulay600 You`re never too old mate.Happy days

  • Memories! 1982 Blackpool, Quad/ph/a top film. Loved it. alas no more.... but Weller on late comeback?

  • I was a skinhead when this came out but still loved it

  • true class, loved em then love em now . they were fantastic at the 02 in sheffield this month cant wait to see em again

  • this song moves me!..........never tire of it......still sounds fresh as ever.....

  • One of the best:o)

  • Classic song this - love it. Looks like this is where Jarvis Cocker got his moves.

  • I love this song, it was cool 30 years ago and it's still sounds and feels great today.

    Thanks for this post.

  • Still sounds great after all these years! Heard it on radio today.I remember buying this and Time for action when they came out,now i'm 44! never a mod, just a lover of great music!

  • Love it ,wish i was back in those days .Just riding free on me scoot not a care in the world . Now a life time later no scoot no freedom and the bloody CSA on my back . Still could be worse ,could not have been into this fantastic music .Seen them at the Top Rank in Cardiff .

  • Got my tics for the O2 Isllington gig. I just love being a Mod and have for 30 years. SA are just so cool.

  • Absolutely LOVE this song, one of the best of that era. But bamjanner, fancy ending your comment with such a ridiculous statement ??

  • My first ever record.

  • The bollox - better than Weller's best

  • Your area ? I'm afraid not, audioadventures-am overseas , where the film of this classic is also going digital . Good sound , though . All the best to ye of similar (classy) taste .

  • Got you Baldershot. Things were cool in those days in my area, which was Gford/Ashot/Gmng/Wkng/Dkng/Fham/Fbro/Cmbly? You too?

Dunno if anyone else getting same prob but this vid is going all digital on me since last week. Didn't happen before. Sound ok but vision is a wrong'un.

  • ...whilst remembering past glories about a rather odd alliance that was forged between local mods and rude boys some 30 years ago, I suddenly felt a longing to hear some Secret Affair .... and I found this . Thanks, traceymod...absolutely brilliant !!!!!!!!!!...From Duncan , with more respect than you can imagine !

  • A true Mod classic!!

  • classic tracks..omg wish it was 1979 again,,the best year ever,,thanks for posting,,just going to subscribe,,excellent taste in music

  • A real blast from the past.... Lookin forward to seein them in belfast....!!!!

  • Come and see the band play this year-lots of gigs on offer starting May 29th at Brighton!

    trACEy

  • @traceymod Tracey how great were they at Islington last Sunday.....cool as.....

  • totally takes me back, and gives me goose bumps to boot, excellent tunage!!

  • Just love this Track... a Mod anthem if there ever was. Saw this band at the Rainbow

79/80 ish with a truck load of mod mates, and a ruck with some Skins on the way home.... Happy days.

  • im 46 it took me back love it

  • i used to think their singer sounded like a younger Allan Clarke (Hollies) ... seeing this video, he actually looks like that as well!

  • You were lucky to see the originals. I've see the Stones, Who, Jam, Queen but sadly not the Beatles. I'm hoping to see The Specials and Selecter tour at the moment but you're right it's not the same without the originals.

  • First gig I ever too, Goldiggers in Chippenham in about 81/82 had to bunk of school on the day and the day after to get back home (staying round a mates house honest Mum:-) )

  • A cracker of a song!

  • omg LOVE this soo much. Thankyou sooo much for putting this on. xxxxxxxx 500 stars. xxx

  • Ace tune, Mod for life!!

  • Oh my god this was an anthem of my youth club !!! I used to wear a leather box jacket and a skinny tie with Madness written down it! Happy days :)

  • Look good, play well ..dance like fuck.

  • Dontcha just love this band! mad Mod f**kers....

  • Comment removed

  • If it is then it is llegally added. The band have only allowed it to be added here.

  • @traceymod Thanks for this,Secret Affair were a hugely underrated band and this track is probably their finest work.I was a mod at the time (early 80s) and however much older I get I still feel the same !

  • nevrer seen this version before, outstanding song, thanks so much for this

  • me ither what class.

  • wtf?

  • nice 1 tracey

  • A nice blast from the past... i always preferred dexy's, but there you go. this is certainly class. Now does anyone recall a band of about the same time called The Ghosts - the only single i recall was called "my town"....?

  • Do you mean ghost town by the specials

  • @britvic63 no; The ghosts (or possibly just ghosts) seem to have made only a couple of singles. Odd copies of my town turn up on ebay from time to time; last one i saw went for about £15. The only line remember is

    "and at night, we go down the disco;

all the girls say "ere look at this bloke"

feeling right, it's part of the game,

nothing changes, it's still the same

it's my town - lookin' at the girls

    it's my town - it's my world

  • I do rather like mod bikes they are a lot of fun. Although there is a fellow on here that goes by the name of pheonix who is a giant poser and is very camp.

  • Secret Affair captured the spirit of the era yet made it bearable. Thanks to them I bought my 1st 2tone tonic suit! Well, I looked smart back then

  • as we say here in the west of scotland...pure class

  • Secret Affair were great at BridIington & it Iooked bIoody packed from where I was standing! can't wait for their gig @ The HoImfirth Picturedrome, Nov 28th!

  • Aww Jacky so good to see you there....love the new look...you mod icon you.(shame about the Leo Sayer phase those)

  • action affair

  • i was at brid scoot rally and theres no way they were sold out,not a very big crowd on either night. dexys tribute were very good i thought

  • Swaety bum (nice name) I was there mate and I can confirm that 2000 tickets were sold before the band went on stage even...the venue as you knwo wasnt just for the bands but also had several dance rooms that also had music playing and 2 floors so its hard to estimate how many actually came to see the bands play unless you know the promoter (as I do) or you had some sort of extra special vision to estimate where everyone was...anyway who cares? As for the Dexys band-hardly a comparison is it ffs?

  • well i do wear glasses, we had an excellent night anyway.

  • ha ha ok i will let you off then :)

  • lucky bar stools enjoy for me

  • I was at NewcastIe too...top show.

I'm aIso going to their show @ the Spa, BridIington Scooter RaIIy, Oct 30th soId out at 3000 I hear....but I got me ticket

  • I was there at Newcastle. Absolute Class

  • its the one song in my life i will allways remember for my life time pure brill..

  • good work

  • SECRET AFFAIR pIay NewcastIe Civic Centre, Oct 3rd 2009.

  • Yeah but its not Secret Affair anymore! Only Ian page and Dave Cairns left from the original group. They are sadly turning into a cabaret band! The original re-union gigs with the original line-up where the best!

  • To be fair mertonparka Secret Affair without Page and Cairns would be a bit like the Fabs without Macca and Lennon and the Stones without Mick and Keef, innit??? These guys were the main songwriters and they're still there. How many bands from this era still have all the main men? Look at The Specials. The FB3 are back but Dammers is doing some kind of arty jazz thing. What's that all about???

  • @Audioadventures Just doesnt seem like Secret Affair anymore. Too many bands floating around with only one or two members left, but I take your point! i'm just glad I saw them at Birmingham and the Scala with Original line-up.

  • Whenever I hear this song, it fills me with pride.. If you were there, you'd know. Good post cheers

  • Greatest song (in my opinion) EVER!!!

  • i remember this band in there hey day, wasnt they on the i-spy label or something like that.i actually brought the glory boys album.

  • loved it what a great song

    oh memories

  • just fantastic...loving it....

  • excellent cheers tracey

  • Secret Affair pIay The Parc HaII, Cardiff area, Sept 12th 2009!

  • Secret Affair headIine the BridIington Scooter RaIIy, Oct 30th 2009.....

  • A few scooters would have done this vid proud. Not really my cup of tea..but an awesome song when played at scooter rallies...always gets the crowd singing!

  • The sax parts are f***in' AWSOME. still get goosebumps almost 30 years on. FANTASTIC!!

  • See you there mate!

  • Hate to be anaI but SECRET AFFAIR pIayed exactIy 1 hour + 5 mins to the stage cIock & top geezers they are!

    Nottingham stage crew.....

  • i was actually refering to their longevity as in years not how long they played on sat, and actually it was around 50 mins. they came on at 6.55 and played till about 7.50.

  • yeh this was great, seriously under appreciated band. saw them in nottm market square on sat, shame they didnt last longer, but perhaps only a couple of classics to their name didnt help longevity?

  • They were only supposed to do 50 mins mate and did an hour 15! I thought that was pretty good going myself.Three albums worth of hits and a longer set saturday to come in London....I reckon you would enjoy the show in London even more....it will be amazing.

  • Tracey - you are correct the show in London was excellent - I cant stop humming 'My World'

  • Hello Dic-glad you had a good time-I did too!Hope to see you at the next one.

  • Dont miss Secret Affair's 30th Anniversary show @ The Camden Centre, Kings Cross, May 30th!

  • Hope you make it to the show May 30th in London mate

  • great stuff trace.class track from a great album.just booked whelans.will be great night for dublin mods

  • Really great. From a very underated album Behind Closed Doors. How this didn't get to number , I don't know. The director of the video is Irish and went on to make some big movies.

  • I absolutely loved this. I was at secondary school in the Midlands in 1980 in the 4th year. This track was very importnat to me, and still means a lot after all these years.

  • class song it was the anthem of the mods at school i was a rocker then "but loved this secretly lol" still got it on 7" single ...oh the memories an yes they didnt get the praise like most of the crap that was out then was a shame they were brilliant ..thanks for trip down memory lane
