Glory Boys the album was fricking stellar. Blindingly brilliant it has been on my playlist since 1979! behind Closed Doors killed the band awful apart from a couple of good singles, piss poor production as well. The last album should have been the second.
Brings back real good memories of the parties in Hornchurch at local halls. I remember going down to Mintz and Davies in Romford for Fred Perry, Ben Shermans and Harringtons. There was a whole Mod culture in Hornchurch at the time and I was 16/17 and loving every minute.

@madness2901 im 48 pal and it seems like last year when i was on the dance floor to this song not 30 years ago . ps i bet your not down the pub 7 days a week also these days lol
@madness2901 it's fucked thats all ,sounds like you were having a good time while it was happening.great tune they were very polished tight group. If the jam hadn't come along this would have been the band everyone wanted
@TheKenfig the Jam weren't real mods though in my mind. played geat Mod music but secret affair Merton Parks, the Who, Lambrettas you know the dance fella. great sound but did they doMods may day narr. Don't get me wrong I've jam tunes on me play list can't go wrong Paul weller and Bruce who was broken heartd when Paul broke em up to form the bad poor Style council. Money bug had got to the Modfather. Having it be well dude. Mods rule!!!! back in the day lol
@iktomi5 Yes, the Jam were into the Kinks as well, but Weller seems to style himself a lot on Steve Marriott from the Small Faces, even in his solo post Style Council era with the image and the 'plastic white soul' stuff. I don't like the solo music of Paul Weller and I liked the Jam best until 1980.For me their crowning glory is the '79 album 'Setting Sons' which has great songs & a heavy and chunky sound ; less pop-ish than 'All Mod Cons' (1978) and not as psychadelic as 'Sound Affects' (1980)
This is by far the best song of the 80s wish it was 1980 agian 17 year old out with my mates on the town best time of my life . 47 yesterday but this track still gets me up on the floor
@kenmacaulay600 ME TOO ! - I was 17 for most of 1980 and now I'm 48 ; life was awesome then when you still lived at home with no bills or worries / responsibilities ; could drink as much lager as you wanted 3 nights a week and not even get a hangover !!
Still sounds great after all these years! Heard it on radio today.I remember buying this and Time for action when they came out,now i'm 44! never a mod, just a lover of great music!
Love it ,wish i was back in those days .Just riding free on me scoot not a care in the world . Now a life time later no scoot no freedom and the bloody CSA on my back . Still could be worse ,could not have been into this fantastic music .Seen them at the Top Rank in Cardiff .
Your area ? I'm afraid not, audioadventures-am overseas , where the film of this classic is also going digital . Good sound , though . All the best to ye of similar (classy) taste .
Got you Baldershot. Things were cool in those days in my area, which was Gford/Ashot/Gmng/Wkng/Dkng/Fham/Fbro/Cmbly? You too?
Dunno if anyone else getting same prob but this vid is going all digital on me since last week. Didn't happen before. Sound ok but vision is a wrong'un.
...whilst remembering past glories about a rather odd alliance that was forged between local mods and rude boys some 30 years ago, I suddenly felt a longing to hear some Secret Affair .... and I found this . Thanks, traceymod...absolutely brilliant !!!!!!!!!!...From Duncan , with more respect than you can imagine !
You were lucky to see the originals. I've see the Stones, Who, Jam, Queen but sadly not the Beatles. I'm hoping to see The Specials and Selecter tour at the moment but you're right it's not the same without the originals.
First gig I ever too, Goldiggers in Chippenham in about 81/82 had to bunk of school on the day and the day after to get back home (staying round a mates house honest Mum:-) )
@traceymod Thanks for this,Secret Affair were a hugely underrated band and this track is probably their finest work.I was a mod at the time (early 80s) and however much older I get I still feel the same !
A nice blast from the past... i always preferred dexy's, but there you go. this is certainly class. Now does anyone recall a band of about the same time called The Ghosts - the only single i recall was called "my town"....?
@britvic63 no; The ghosts (or possibly just ghosts) seem to have made only a couple of singles. Odd copies of my town turn up on ebay from time to time; last one i saw went for about £15. The only line remember is
I do rather like mod bikes they are a lot of fun. Although there is a fellow on here that goes by the name of pheonix who is a giant poser and is very camp.
Secret Affair were great at BridIington & it Iooked bIoody packed from where I was standing! can't wait for their gig @ The HoImfirth Picturedrome, Nov 28th!
Swaety bum (nice name) I was there mate and I can confirm that 2000 tickets were sold before the band went on stage even...the venue as you knwo wasnt just for the bands but also had several dance rooms that also had music playing and 2 floors so its hard to estimate how many actually came to see the bands play unless you know the promoter (as I do) or you had some sort of extra special vision to estimate where everyone was...anyway who cares? As for the Dexys band-hardly a comparison is it ffs?
Yeah but its not Secret Affair anymore! Only Ian page and Dave Cairns left from the original group. They are sadly turning into a cabaret band! The original re-union gigs with the original line-up where the best!

They were only supposed to do 50 mins mate and did an hour 15! I thought that was pretty good going myself.Three albums worth of hits and a longer set saturday to come in London....I reckon you would enjoy the show in London even more....it will be amazing.
I read the band reaIiy want to pIay ScotIand but as they onIy do one off gigs these days no one has offered them a gig there yet due to the costs invoIved.
If you get a chance dont miss their oniy Iondon show at The Camden Centre, Kings X, May 30th.
No gigs planned for Scotland mate Im afraid-but the Anniversary show is at Kings Cross and there is a direct train route I hear.A lot of fans coming on mini buses or on easy jet
Really great. From a very underated album Behind Closed Doors. How this didn't get to number , I don't know. The director of the video is Irish and went on to make some big movies.
I absolutely loved this. I was at secondary school in the Midlands in 1980 in the 4th year. This track was very importnat to me, and still means a lot after all these years.
class song it was the anthem of the mods at school i was a rocker then "but loved this secretly lol" still got it on 7" single ...oh the memories an yes they didnt get the praise like most of the crap that was out then was a shame they were brilliant ..thanks for trip down memory lane
I also forgot how good this song was and I've never seen the video, Ca'nt wait for the Camden gig 28 years since Iast Mssrs Page and cairns...wonder if he'll be playing on top of the speaker again.....I'm just another glory boy, so scared of getting old.........FANTASTIC
This rare Secret Affair footage was shot on film (rather than video) and is a real gem.Directed by Steve Barron 1980the video was filmed on location on Primrose Hill and other London landmarks.Steve Barron also directed the first promo video Time For Action.
Secret Affair are performing in Whelans Dublin March 6th 2009 and May 30th Camden Centre Kings Cross.See you there!
