I hope some of the young 14 and 15 year olds who have dissed Tommy for "not playing electric" on some posts I've seen before, will watch this and see why he is a master of any guitar! The man masters the electric as well!
Saw him recently with this lineup, and it was excellent... Cantina Senese was a definte highlite for this mere mortal. It is a different TE show, but as far as range of techniques and the seemingly effortless execution of same, he just keeps getting better. A TE event always leaves me smiling and inspired
Everything Tommy does is amazing. I so wanted to see this show live, but he isn't coming to a venue anywhere close. So, I will just have to be content with recording the show on WoodSong. I have seen him live 4 times and attended his workshop in Newberry, SC with my daughter. MY wife and daughter love Tommy. I only wish she would tolerate my mediocre playing.
Can I just say, I had seem Tommy nine times before I went to see him last night. The show he did with his band was the best thing I have ever seen, and I have never said anything like this, but the people that say that it just wouldn't be as good with a band, you don't know what you're talking about.
It was spectacular in every way, and all I can say is, if you have the opportunity to go to this show with the band, DO IT! It will change your life. ;)
@ubernaffa Can't quite work out the timing of this comment, but would that have been the gig in Bristol? It was by far and away the best gig I've ever been to. I was just amazed!! Everyone needs to listen to Ubernaffa - it will change your life. :-)
@Bozzagorn It was indeed the show in Bristol! When Tommy started playing the intro to Classical Gas, I was like 'Yeah, I have heard this about a million times', but when the drums and bass kicked in, I was like "OMGGG!!1 :O" and from then on, the show just kicked my ass!
Honestly guys. I´ve been listening to him for couple of years, saw him live twice... Then one of my friends asked me to go to see Tommy again, at first I didn´t want to go, because of the band... He persuaded me, so we went there... And I have to say it was the best concert I´ve seen so far! Tommy is like God on his own, but with band it´s much more asskicking. I was affraid, really affraid, but the show was awesome and really the best!
I was yesterday at his concert "Acoustic & Electric" (germany) he played only four songs alone with his acoustic guitar. The rest of it mostly he played on electric. Don´t really like it.
i saw him last friday =) he was awesome and his band is awesome too.. they r all amazing =) yea i agree with finder85.. its fu**** amazing live :D they blow you away ^^
I saw him in västerås in sweden on march 14 with the band. It was one of the most awsome things i have ever experienced!!! Classical Gas he should have done solo because its 10000000000 times better that way but seeing him on electric guitar just blew me away!

I went yesterdag to this concert, and it was so amazing. He proves that he's one of the best fingerpicking/electric guitarplayers in the world. I'm still overwhelmed.
I've seen the show (RAI Amsterdam) and can conclude that this promo reel is not a true reflection of the actual show, Tommy does a lot of solo stuff during the show as well, it was well worth my time (and money)
As long as the bassist sounds better than he does here, this might be a pretty cool. show! Different? Yes. But its still Tommy doing what he does best: Playing music for his fans. He's one of the best guitarists ever, and the experience of being in the audience he's performing for, no matter if its finger style or blues is something most of his fans will never be able to do. But then again, I'm used to rooting for the under dog. I'm a Dale Jr. fan! lmao
It's a shame I saw this as I wanted to go and see him in concert this year, I think the song choices show Tommy's age. I won't be going to see him now I'm afraid.
Y'all miss the point. He's happy to play back home,, who gives a rat's arse what you think when your in front , of the audience who one hundred percent, like it even if you play bum notes. We seldom see Tommy, but when he's here...hahahaha!! It's all good
Hey guys, what the heck in complaining that he doesn't play solo this time. Be happy! You can see TE all your life playing solo and finally he hits the road with this great band! Simon Hosford on guitar too, it doesn't get much better than that dudes!
I can't wait for the concert on March 4th in Amsterdam. Got 18 tickets on the first 2 rows. What fun that will be! Stanley

I saw Tommy in The Helix in Dublin a few months ago. He is the best acoustic in the world, by far and he met all my expectations. I agreee with Scott Tsai, spagbend and rhye999, TE is a solo player and shines on his own. Being in the band above, doesn't allow him to shine and it doesn't show his expertise.
I was at the sydney show, it was fantastic! the amazing band absolutely blew me away. It was fantastic to see Tommy play with the band! he was still very electrifying and and had all the showmanship you woud expect from a TE show! having grown up listening to ALL of TE's music, it was very special to see him with the killer band. Phil was amazing also! and together... unbeatable!
I will see this on the 4-3-2011 in Amsterdam, Holland.
I just can not wait anymore after seing this, 'who dares wins' is one of my favorite songs, which I play myself aswell =D Thumbs up if you think Tommy is the best :)
This is just wrong. I'm sure Tommy enjoys playing with all the production, but this is not how to hear him. What is the point in trying to hear his playing in aural competition with the screaming of an electric, drums, or other orchestral backing. Ridiculous. I may rethink driving to Tulsa for this mess.
Gina thanks for posting! Look forward as usual to concerts this year. Just tell Tommy that he just owns the stage on his own more than anybody I have ever seen and I agree with some posts that all he does is great but the best remains to watch him play his magic with a guitar and voice! Best wishes for the New Year to all of you! Gianni
I agree with Scott Tsai. Tommy is great by himself. When he plays with others (Richard, Doyle, Pat) it's cool, but with a full blown band his talent gets watered down. I'm sure he enjoys it and it is great music no doubt, but the music loses it's personal feeling to the audience. The heart is not getting touched like it is when he is solo. Just my opinion... please be careful Gina!
@rhye999 I saw him live in Malmö yesterday, and he played both solo and with the band. Let's say he's so gosh darn ass-kicking both solo and with the band that you don't care.
@rhye999 Me too, but last night I saw them playing together and I have to say that it was perfect! Tommy solo is perfect, but I really enjoyed them playing together too :)
It doesn't matter who Tommy's playing with, what he's playing or where, as long as he has a piece of wood with six strings on it, he will own it, own the stage and own you!
@ScottTsai I agree. Something about him playing solo allows him to connect more solidly with the audience too. Less commotion I suppose. Part of what makes him unique is his ability to sound like a one-man orchestra/band.
@ScottTsai I was going to see him in Norway (never seen him live, tickets here cost around 65 dollars) but unfortunately after seeing this I won't be going.
@stoob1969 hey, i am having 2nd thoughts too...was about to purchase his tickets show in london this april, but ... i dont know ;( and there's no seating too, its all standing...
@fever003 I love Tommy, but I have been to so many concerts looking forward to hearing what have made the bands/performer so liked but then hear the latest album I have never heard or songs performed I don't know only to be bitterly disappointed. I love electric guitar, I love bands, I just think that this material from Tommy is below par and dull, I think he's showing his age in the song choices! I'll wait till he comes on his own or playing his acoustic stuff.
@ScottTsai dude, if you get chance to see this tour it might change ur mind. playing with band allows him to do stuff that he cant normally afford to do on his own. all im saying is dont write it off, i really think they've got the complimentary balance right.

@ScottTsai Wrong :) Have you been to one of his band concerts? I have been to one in Germany. He stood out alright :p It was the best of 4 of his concerts I went to !
@conradkyt Forgot to add 'IMO' :) It's all a matter of opinion after all. I thought that his band was awesome ! He even did a four handed slapping + tapping part with the bassist! Great stuff I think.
but were is the music?
