In 2004 when Epic showed off UE3, the characters shown, Locust, Brumak, Wretches, etc. turned out to be from Gears of War which launced in 2006, so it's not really technology of 2 years ago but rather a preview of technology that you'll be playing in about 2 years... and maye things repeat and this turns out to be Epic's next exclusive for 720 ;-)

@TheCommentGuy8 ummmm... there a lots of unreal engine 3 ipod games. It takes 2 years to make one good game. About 4-5 to make an amazing one. Think of all the textures, animations, programming, etc. needed ot make a game.
Very nice but I prefer a game with a nice art style rather than gritty photo realism.

@FlyingBowlOfNoodles Don't spread that Wolfire crap. The D3D11/GL4 tessellation pipeline is very different from the old static routines they referred to. As mentioned, Wolfire apparently couldn't be bothered to check their facts in their rush to bash D3D.
You can, however, do some clever tricks and emulate tess HW using an approach called instanced tessellation-- that could even work on older GL2/D3D9 boards, assuming the drivers aren't shit.
@FlyingBowlOfNoodles I don't think he said DX11 was the first to do it or that it was an exclusive feature, to me he was just pointing out that Tessellation is one of DX11's strong suits.
Iam actually glad that this won't be running on the 360 neither ps3 on this level of detail. So the not yet secret epic project they were working on for some time will hit for the pc. Exclusive i guess! Why? Most tech demos from epic have shown pre work of some upcumming titles or have at least been involved with the title. Hopefully this BladeRunner style demo will hit as game to pc in a 1-2 years =)

It only costs about $600 to make a decent gaming computer that runs Crysis 2, and also many people forget this, but it is STILL a pc. You don't just buy a gaming PC and bam its only for gaming. It only costs about $200 or so (way cheaper if you ebay stuff.) to turn a PC into a gaming computer assuming its semi-new. Also, the graphics card means nothing if your cpu can't keep up with it.

@Sh4dowRav3n I think people may dislike the IGN commentary, which was rediculously shallow, poorly delivered, and did not go into any detail regarding the technology behind the new engine. I was quite dissapointed - the guy sounded like he was watching this for the first time. The demo itsself is amazing though, no argument there.
I would worship epic if they made this into a real game. Gears and bulletstorm are awesome but Samaritan looks godlike in comparison. My mind is flowing with ideas of how the gameplay would work
Its just a matter of knowing how to budget and get the best bang for your dollar, NOT about getting the latest socket 1366 motherboard (which is a waste of money) and the most expensive video card. Jeez just get reliable board, a socket 775 quad core, 3 gigs of ram, a GTX 470, 22" monitor and call it a day. Pinch your pennies when it comes to certain parts (like RAM and DVD drive) and you can have yourself a REALLY good PC and play all the games you want. It's not that difficult, I did it.
@ROCKSvsUZIS i think the MOBO is the 2nd or 3rd most important component behind cpu, i usually try to spend more on my mobo because its the thing that i will upgrade the least. people tend to buy video cards every couple years but i think they generally keep the same mobo for awhile longer. i just finished my new build and spent 150 for an asus mobo, 200 for a sandy bridge i5, and 150 for a 460gtx. then the case and other crap i spent no more than 50 bucks on

I spent $470 building my PC and I played Modern warfare 1 and 2, Farcry 2, and Crysis maxed out. My PC is 2 years old so I cant Max the settings on Bad Company 2 but I can get damn close. All I need is a newer GPU and a quad core socket 775 CPU. I have a PC that didnt cost that much more than a console and play all the next gen games.

@TheFaisalano yea but the engine they used to show this "tech demo" is not compatible with todays consoles.developers like EPIC,CRYTEC and DICE have high advanced engines as we speak but they just waiting on microsoft and sony to give them the right hardware(next gen consoles).for example DICE all these days showed us the gameplay of battlefield 3 on very high advanced PC then later on showed us the chopped up version for current consoles and it did not look as pleasant as the PC version.

It costs more but there are less people buying. PC market I would hope is doing well. Im still not in a position to buy something like that. Soon though...

You're gonna sell about 20% of the copies people are playing. PIracy will always be high on pc. Its because a lot of people convince themselves in their head that if they spend a shit ton of money to build a killer gaming rig they shouldnt have to buy the games. Honestly its true to because people buying the hardware keep the market alive.

@ibloxProductionz Yeah if you want some top of the line shit they will be near top of the line shit for more than a week. You get what you pay for. I had a DUAL Cpu pentium 3 board last for the longest time. In fact it can still play most current PC games at a decent rate. Thats 1999 technology.

@BluBeatz no dats the opinion of most people, people with a life. All the power PC has yet it cant render avatar looking games in realtime. This graphics plus bf3 look like ps1 compared to avatar. Next gen, if it looked like this i will be disspointing cause its just not far off from last gen. Just 1080p and 60fps gaming thats the biggest difference next gen is compared to sub hd of current gen. So until they can get avatar graphics in REALTIME , then i suggest it will trully be next gen.

@kick808gs I do not believe crysis has the best graphics forever but here is my point. 1. This is few minutes of video not a whole game so they can show their talent and graphics off. 2. They had more time to work on it since It is such a short video. and 3. Crysis Is a game with multiplayer and hours of gameplay making It better than this since It is not a mini movie and still has good graphics In a game. Just saying In my opinion.

Nah, not impressed i mean looks good but this is not what i want in next gen console cause it looks too similar to current gen graphics but with better lighting 1080p ect. I want much better. If this is what we get for next gen console then we might aswell wait another 5 years and hopefully then we get better an more advance almost photo realistc graphics. This trailer and battlefield 3 doesnt do it for me, next gen is coming too early if xbox 720 or ps4 releases in 2013. Best waiting 2018-2020.

@Sh4dowRav3n I think people may dislike the IGN commentary, which was rediculously shallow, poorly delivered, and did not go into any detail regarding the technology behind the new engine. I was quite dissapointed - the guy sounded like he was watching this for the first time. The demo itsself is amazing though, no argument there.

Its just a matter of knowing how to budget and get the best bang for your dollar, NOT about getting the latest socket 1366 motherboard (which is a waste of money) and the most expensive video card. Jeez just get reliable board, a socket 775 quad core, 3 gigs of ram, a GTX 470, 22" monitor and call it a day. Pinch your pennies when it comes to certain parts (like RAM and DVD drive) and you can have yourself a REALLY good PC and play all the games you want. It's not that difficult, I did it.

@ROCKSvsUZIS i think the MOBO is the 2nd or 3rd most important component behind cpu, i usually try to spend more on my mobo because its the thing that i will upgrade the least. people tend to buy video cards every couple years but i think they generally keep the same mobo for awhile longer. i just finished my new build and spent 150 for an asus mobo, 200 for a sandy bridge i5, and 150 for a 460gtx. then the case and other crap i spent no more than 50 bucks on

everyone stop arguing right now! We can all have really good PCs that can run games that use this engine, its easy. I spent $470 building my PC and I played Modern warfare 1 and 2, Farcry 2, and Crysis maxed out. My PC is 2 years old so I cant Max the settings on Bad Company 2 but I can get damn close. All I need is a newer GPU and a quad core socket 775 CPU. I have a PC that didnt cost that much more than a console and play all the next gen games.
