  • where's the alleged E2 - Fb was the lowest here

  • Can Prince Do A D6? I didn't see it in the video?

  • @HoseaThaGreat its @4:01 lol..

  • From 4:12 to 4:51 he's actually sucking air in when he produces those sounds so it doesn't actually count as hitting notes in falsetto.

I'm suprised you didn't realise that

  • @FendyRhodes Sucking air as in breathing...? Its called a whistle register. Totally different from falsetto

  • @iWurk No I mean he's breathing in when he does it.

  • @ 1:08 is in falsetto

  • DO ELDRA AND BOBBY DEBARGE ! THEY GO HIGH ENOUGH TO CRACK SOME GLASS LOL

  • You used the central C as C4 or C5?...

He uses Falsetto, and that makes everybody can make high notes, like "contra tenors" that sings like soprano but they are baritones xP

  • He beat me. XD Highest I've got is C7. He beat me by a sharp. XD And it took me about two weeks to work my way up there from F6. XD

G8 is supposedly the highest (undocumented) note ever sung. I WANT IT.

  • This Man Hit Every Damn Note !

  • he uses his whistle register really well for someone who's probably a tenor (dynamic or spinto?) or a (lyric or spinto?)baritone.

  • @TLPOMNIMEDIA I definitely agree with you, on this. Prince's voice sounds like it's more of a Baritone, though. He has, naturally, a very deep speaking voice. If he was a Tenor, his speaking voice would have been somewhat higher than what it is. Good point made, in regards to his ability to sing in the "whistle"-pitch register.

  • @Administrator688 hmmm, idk about the speaking voice (his is very deep, no doubt. lol) cause my speaking voice is pretty "high". I'd guess it depends on which register you use for speaking? According to wikipedia (not the best site, i know) it's possible to find people who speak in any of the 4 registers. I natural speak in a mix of Falsetto and Vocal Fry registers. Most people speak in their modal register (chest voice) which is used to determine vocal range type tho. ^_^

  • 4:16 prince goes dolphin ahahahahaha :D

  • Comment removed

  • @Administrator688 well yeah i guess so, but michael jackson was and still is the king of falsetto, when prince sings in falsetto it doesnt suit him and it doesnt sound good. michael jackson did use whistle pitch, in many of his songs such as "butterflies",he also used somewhat bass vocals in his song "monkey business", he also used his deep voice in songs such as "whatever happens", " 2000 watts " and more, obviously you dont know michaels vocal range. im not trying to offend any prince fans

  • @ewardah Have you ever heard Prince sing "Adore"? His range on that song (especially when he goes WAY up into his falsetto) is just as incredible as Michael Jackson's was, when he sang "Butterflies." By the way, I've never heard Michael sing in as deep a Bass register as Prince does, or even use "whistle"-pitch register (Who knows, for sure, IF he was ever physically capable of using it, and, going up that high in his own range? Maybe, but, we don't know.) at all. They BOTH were/are great.

  • @ewardah You are not offending me (though I am a fan of BOTH Michael AND Prince - equally, WITHOUT PUTTING EITHER ONE OVER THE OTHER - as I have stated before), we just disagree with each other, on the subject matter regarding their vocal ranges, and abilities, that's all. In your view, Michael was a better singer - in my view, they were/are equal in their vocal skills, but, each one having his own voice-type, and his own range. Prince has more range, Michael had less - but, both sang well.

  • Prince is amazing! someone has got to do R.Kelly

  • @WhoTheFuckGonStopMe his is coming next

  • @WhoTheFuckGonStopMe

    R. Kelly's range is really not impressive.

  • Prince has a great voice and is a very talented musician. I only wish he could have came about ten years earlier. I'm not crazy about the turn which music took in the 80's.

  • He sung with a lot of control on the song "Solo"......that had to have toke a lot of air in the diaphragm.

  • Prince's voice always captures my attention......his vocal range is very very affective and he puts himself and his emotions into the song and that is very inspiring.....

  • Is there one thing that he can´t do well??? This vocal range is simply amazing. Thanks for posting and for patching up all those great songs!

  • He's truly prince of music

  • Michael Jackson can sing way Better than prince and he also has A wider range

  • Comment removed

  • @ewardah he actually doesnt but ok

  • @tonysantana22222 Great comment!!! I agree with you, 100%. However, even though their voices are different, OBVIOUSLY, that does NOT make either of these artists (whether Michael, or Prince) "better than" one - or "not as good as" - the other. They each have, or had, their own way of singing, and USING their voice, in whatever style that best worked for them. Each singer had his own strengths, in regards to his abilities, and what made him sound unique. Whatever weakness, was made up for.

  • @tonysantana22222 You have said it, EXACTLY!!! So true. From what we DO know, based on what has been made public so far (that most people have already HEARD - from both artists), I absolutely agree with you. They each had their own way of using their voice, to the best of whatever abilities, and strengths, that suited them - which made up for anything weak, or for any limitations (vocally-wise) they dealt with, so that each of them sang well, and sounded great - in his own unique voice.

  • @ewardah They BOTH could sing well, equally. Prince, as shown in this Video, has a much wider range than what Michael had - going from a very deep Bass (because of a naturally LOWER speaking voice), all the way up to a C#7, in the "whistle"-pitch register. AMAZING!!! Michael used his voice DIFFERENTLY than Prince. He was NEVER, in his entire lifetime, known to either sing in his Bass register (if he had one, to begin with), or for using the "whistle"-pitch. (NO ONE knows if he was capable.)

  • @ewardah If you would read my previous comments, I STRONGLY disagree with you, on this. However, though I DO believe that they were/are equal in their singing abilities. And, we may NEVER know to what extent Michael's were (or, might have been) at their fullest. But, we do know, without doubt or speculation, what Prince's are - because, we have all HEARD him for ourselves - and, we already KNOW what he has been, and STILL IS, capable of. You are speculating about what you haven't heard yet.

  • Wow! The best female singer, oh wait it's male my bad!

  • This G5 is freakin unbeliveable!

  • holy fuck!! this is insane

  • Def the best male vocalist of his time.

  • from where is tha"Gotta Broken Heart Again"??

  • Can you upload Barry White's vocal range? His voice remains unmatched.

  • Whew!! I am shocked!

  • @TheJaredThingy sort of have to gargle while singing with a high larynx.

  • 4:17 is "God".

  • What's the name of the song at 4:17??? I got to know!!!

  • he screams like a girl, fuckin hell i cant even scream that much!!

  • @LARoseJaay it calls 'Whistle Voice'

  • screaching doesnt count. it kinda ruins his song tbh. boo hoo, admit michael was better.

  • You're awesome for posting this!!! Much appreciated.

Ohh and Prince Rogers Nelson** :)

  • he can whistle .. but it was not impressive ..

  • Whats the first song in the intro?

  • @PsychoCalamander the 1st song on the intro is I Wanna Be Your Lover

  • Interestingly, Prince goes through almost his entire vocal range in one 2 minute song: "Do U Lie?" off of the Soundtrack to Under the Cherry Moon. I get a kick out of listening to that song for that very reason.

  • He is one of strangest singers )))

  • wats the first part of this vid wat song

  • I love me some Prince

  • He is an amazing musician and singer and produces and composes and writes. He is amazing!

  • omg i love him! his voice is still awesome & he is 54! :O

    prince is dope! <3

  • I was waiting for the song God to appear, because that seriously demonstrates his chops for real! He's so damn amazing!

  • @ilovemus34 He's a baritone. His high notes are all head voice. His chest voice cuts off too early for a tenor.

  • @KCJacksonMuz A baritone??? o_0 I'm a baritone and the highest I can go with a full voice is D5 :L

  • @UnderReconstruction7 Hey I can sing D5 too but E5 is my highest. How high can you go with head voice/falsetto?

  • @BlackLightning20101 I can just about stretch to G5. How about you?

  • @UnderReconstruction7 If I push it, B5. Maybe be even C6. But anything above G#5 is completely unreliable and a little on a risky side. Basically, I avoid going above A5.

  • @UnderReconstruction7 If I push it, B5. Maybe be even C6. But anything above G5 is unreliable and a little haphazard. Basically, I avoid singing above G5 unless I KNOW for sure I can do it.

  • @BlackLightning20101 All you need is a little practice :) I've been singing for just a year, but I hope one day I'll have the perfect range C3-C6.

  • He is a baritone with an amazingly high falsetto/whistle register. I am a high tenor myself, but my falsetto is nowhere near as high as his. I'm envious.

  • omg why cant yall give a great singer his props, he has a amazing vocal range

  • Prince is a fantastic singer! Too bad he does not use much of his chest voice, but his falsettos and lower chest voice are amaaazing! EPIC!

  • Just listen to his scream in the beginning of Get Off. His range is absolutely amazing. I am a tenor and some of his screams are just out of this world. And to still be singing over 50 after hitting such high notes is also amazing. Most rock band leads lose their voices over time because of strain. Prince is still going.

  • @controlpopulation most vocalists lose their range because of what they do their vocal chords.....like smoking cigarettes or weed......Prince excerises his vocal chords, and as far as i know has never smoked anything, hell, he barely drinks, much less smoke or do drugs of any kind. :)

  • Fav sounds: @3:00 & from 4:18 til the end

  • @TheJaredThingy Yes I totally agree - I've never heard him sing in the 5th octave in full voice! His high notes seem to take on 4 forms: Light falsetto, falsetto with twang, falsetto with twang and distortion, and very occasionally whistle register. The way he has all these sounds under control is just amazing, he's a technically phenomenal singer.

  • @TheJaredThingy Far as I can tell, what Prince does on those kind of screams is using two techniques A) twang - which involves contracting the aryepiglottic sphincter, and narrowing the aryepiglottic funnel. B) distortion, which can be achieved in a number of ways but I think he partially closes up the false vocal cords. The vocal cords and airflow remain unstressed and unconstricted throughout. Try buying Cathrin Sadolin's Complete Vocal Technique book :)

  • idoes falsetto count when mapping out the vocal range of a person?

  • 'Erotic City" shouldn't count; his voice was modified!

  • His whistle register is very, VERY unstable to the point where it just doesn't sound good;.

  • whats the first song play in the begin plz tell

  • @skillzmariobrosguy15

'' I Wanna Be Your Lover''

  • OMG C#7?! There is NO baritone that can sing up there, I think. I'm speechless.....

  • @Richellegirl im a baritone and can sing C#7. lol :)

  • Comment removed

  • @MCLAMB4LIFE1 Then, you have a special talent, huh? :)

  • the a6 killed my cat...literally

  • is it just me or are a lot of the high notes off by a semitone?

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you so much for posting. Fascinating. I'm a huge fan and this is great. Well done

  • I LOVE Love 2 the 9's!!!!!!!!

  • He has the deepest voice ever when he talks but when he sings he can go sooo damn high! still 2day!

  • Prince has amazing vocals, he can go from SOOOO LOOW to very squeaky high:).

  • @spacecase3196 For a person who can go that low and go really high, I'd say he's awesome.

  • @ballroomblitzkid1994 Yup! He's one of the best!!!

  • amazing his voice is so unique

  • Thank you for have done a such complete sample of his incredible voice!

  • how u not gonna put "Adore" in there

  • i have know idea have to distinguish these notes but this is still lovely :)

  • i love prince's voice he can always sound diffrent. he's so unique

  • Comment removed

  • He's probably a lyric baritone. He said he doesn't like singing in a masculine way.He uses a lot of falsetto, and does it well.

  • @Snackay You are right.

  • the thing is he also one of the better musicians and guitar players of the last 50 years.

  • @TheJaredThingy That wasn't vocal fry. He basically squeezed (but not strained) his vocal chords and added a lot of twang, which he basically accomplished by growling (almost like gargling).

  • @iWurk lol so funny the way people describe the notes he hits! lol

  • what type of voice does prince have

  • @TheCrappyaccount thats a good qustion i dont even know. i just love that he's so animated with it.

  • @TheCrappyaccount what do you mean? What's his classical classification?

  • @iWurk yeh is it tenor, baritone or something else ?

  • @iWurk Isn't he a natural Baritone with an impressive falsetto range.

  • @TheCrappyaccount He is either baritone or high baritone.

  • @TheCrappyaccount I think he's a countertenor, not sure. Hope I'm right!

  • @ballroomblitzkid1994 He Definitely is a male Soprano or a counter tenor

  • @ballroomblitzkid1994 Nope, he is not. He is either baritone or high baritone with fantastic falsetto.

  • @TheCrappyaccount

I really hesitate but maybe sopano-coloratura

  • @TheCrappyaccount He's a baritone

  • prince's vocals dont compere to micheal jackson's their not even on the same level. when prince sings the kind of range he,s using at the time just comes out in him. prince is versetile when he sings you can here his pain thats the diffrence between micheal and prince. micheal jackson sung about more of being an humanterian and helping children witch is good. but he donst come close on how prince sung about women. i love all those screeches and moans.

  • Such a great voice! LEGEND.

  • Hmmm...screeching out a note isn't the same thing as 'singing' in one.

  • @rekupp Obviously.

  • @iWurk Then why would you include that in Prince's vocal range? It's misleading.

  • @rekupp Those falsetto notes clearly count into his range.

  • @rekupp sure, but it's the funk/soul style of music. It wouldn't be funk/soul if he didn't make the sounds brassy. He isn't trying to be operatic. Nor is he standing by a piano hitting high notes so he can be on YouTube with a great vocal range for praise.

It's clear his vocal range is extraordinary for a pop musician - and not just for the range, but for the consistency at which he hits those notes - they aren't 'one-offs' like they are for so many other musicians.

  • Stop argugin who's better. Prince has a wider range but Michael Jackson was more technical and versatile.

And it really depends on taste. They're both amazing.

  • Prince's Voice and (music) is better than MJ''s just listen .

Michael is Very good ,but Prince is better ...

  • this man is one of the greatest vocalist ever

  • FUCKIN' awesome. Love Prince <3

  • Prince can hit any note!!!

  • lolla peple would say MJ>Prince.

    i definately prefar Prince.

  • lolla peple would say MJ>Prince.

    i definately prefar Prince.

  • MJ > prince.

  • He can whistle

  • i love this! omg why does every1 always bring up how Prince is better than michael jackson or they start saying that michael is better tha Prince? wtf? this is a Prince video. omg!

well, that always happens i guess.

    anyways, great video.

  • Mouth on the floor!! what a legend.. ♥

  • He has an amazing vocal range, more than that of Michael Jackson. But I prefer michael's vocals anyday, there more pleasant for the ears.

  • @SingDriver101 I think the main difference between their voices is Michael was more of a technical singer and Prince is more experimental with his voice. He manipulated sounds to get different affects or show different emotions. But when it comes down to just singing... I think Mike would definitely lead.

  • @iWurk You describe Prince's singing perfectly. It's not straight singing, it's the manipulation of sound. I think there are many better pure singers, but I haven't heard many who use vocal sounds like Prince does. I also believe he worked hard to develop this. He's sure come a long way vocally from his first 2 albums.

  • @SingDriver101 I prefer Prince's

  • @SingDriver101 But even you must admit that MJ was stuck in the vocal range of a pre pubesant male. Which maybe an insight to his mental state. Never to say anything bad about a dead person I am only commenting on his limited singing abilities,

  • whats the First song on the video starting at 00:00 :)

  • @Prince1514 I Wanna Be Your Lover

  • @Prince1514 if im not too late its called "I wanna be ur lover" :)

  • One of the widest vocal ranges in the music industry and the best!

  • Absolutely stunning!!!

  • einfach großartig!!!

  • GREAT WORK ! *_____*

  • Hey this is me (again) lol but i would like to know if you could make a video about Tina's vocal range please

  • Has anyone notcied, in the last photo of him, his massave package down his leg?

I guess his vocal range isnt just his only talent....

  • @Bigwilly10 I didnt wanna point that out...but yes I did notice that...LOL

  • @Bigwilly10 sure did.

  • @Bigwilly10 LOL!! I totally noticed but didn't stop 2 think sum1 else would!!! neway--I always knew his range was amazing just didn't know by how much!! his voice is his most amazing instrument!

  • @Bigwilly10 xD As he is singing SUPER HIGH NOTES.

  • oh i love that! kudos!b that had to take time. you made u smirk and had alot of my favorite notes he hits in songs!i'm like singing along...ohh love that part! love that note! LOL

  • I think he could higher than C7# and lower than E2

  • Hey, he hit notes below Gb2. Listen to his song Damn U, at 2' 53'' he hits an E2.

    ;-)

Such an amazing throat he has.

  • @Pantarei Thankx for pointing that out.

  • @Pantarei He could hit notes way below Gb2 he is a dude. He could at least hit a C2 and thats under statement. He has 5 octaves and some.

  • He does have a good high pitch falsetto range.

  • He goes down to C2 in one interview and does it without any problems, true baritone. Highest full voice note I remember from Prince is A4, would be great to find B4 or C5. His falsetto ir miraclous!

  • O my goodness that man went higher and higher tallent true tallent

  • I love the A5 and G#6

  • Comment removed

  • Gb2? I thought that wasn't a note?

    Great falsetto! :)

  • @LoboAscuridad Why would u think that? lol Its a G flat.

  • @iWurk I always thought the notes went from F#2 G2 G#2 xD

  • @LoboAscuridad They do. Those are sharps. But if you went from a G2 down to a F#2, the F#2 would now be fla
