I am posting right now this top quality ( 5 star) video onto my fb profile (philipvonreutter): . No other video, as far as I am concerned, captures the cold rainy chill that permeated all the days but two of that year's carnival, and yet - despite the rain/ and despite the constant cold mist that did their best to dampen the high spirits of the participants - 2008 was a VINTAGE YEAR and misterpopvideo2 has done a stupendous job of capturing the ethereal dreamy essence of that year, BRAVO!!!

I know right they remind be of this graphic novel by Neil Gaiman called The Sandman. The wore those masks too in one issue of the comic. Their really pretty and remind me of the harlequin doll stickers that me and my friend used to collect whenwe were little. But i would be terrified if I was surrounded by people with those mask and it was night time and they were absolutely silent. 0_0!!!

It doesn't mean anything in particular - it's just a way of communicating with the camera in the absence of facial expressions.

@thefunkychipmunk From what I have been taught, Touching fingers to your lips then flourishing your hand is a greeting. . . usually this is followed with a bow if the greeting is towards someone of wealth or power. At least that was what I was taught.

The costumes are undoubtedly sumptuous and the setting is incomparable.

It's all a bit TOO refined, however. The blank, white, expressionless masks get redundant and tiresome.

The wild, Dionysian element that is crucial to Carnival is missing......
