I saw a quote by Michigan's new coach, Hoke, the other week that made me both mad and sick. He said that Michigan's goal "is to win the Big Ten Championship."
THAT translates as: Don't expect Michigan to win bowl games or -- God forbid -- National Championships; just keep the expectations at the same low level that Bo and all the other overrated coaches have had at Michigan!
@panthers1090 He was right to leave. He didn't fit this offense. He was not the future for Michigan. He is doing much better at Arkansas than he ever would at Michigan. This is coming from a UofM student and a life long fan.
@LOseIDon penn state fans cried that it supposedly wasnt in, and he was down (he wasn't), and etc. What they don't think about is how that was 2nd down, not fourth. I think we can move 3 inches in 2 downs.
There are so many reasons why Michigan will crush the Utes in the season opener. They might lose to penn State and Ohio State, and they will lose to Wisconsin, but everybody else is pretty much a guaranteed win.
Like I said dude, I think we will beat Penn State and Ohio State, but I wouldn't be surprised if we lost either game. I think we WILL lose to Wisconsin, but of you think the Wolverines will beat the Badgers, I won't argue with you. The bottom line is: Michigan WILL win AT LEAST 10 games in 2008 barring injuries, and everybody who says we will go 7-6 and shit either is a Michigan hater or doesn't know shit about college football...or both (like cameroncrazies)
wow, i feel alot better about michigans upcoming season having read these comments. all of these things saying that michigan will be great 2008 with at least a 10-3 record. haha now ur saying that we will do terrible this year, and if i remember correctly, u accused other UM fans of being too optimistic about the 2009 season. please keep saying we r going to suck this year. seeing that whatever u say, the complete OPPISITE happens! Hey man, I was only trying to give you a hard time, it's hard to do that if you're going to be honorable about it. I',m not an MI fan, but I know you guys will back! Good Luck...
Not to mention michigan doesn't want to lose a second straight season opener, and RR doesn't want to lose his first game. The Wolverines are going to be extremely motivated to win this game. Not to mention they are ten times more talnted then the Utes
Dan, we'll see what happens, especially when utah (who is a better team this year) gets you off to a bad start.
For like the 100th time, why are you so confident that Michigan will have a GREAT offense? They are FAR FROm being great. I've seen their O LINE, they are getting better each day, but they are still the weak link of the offense. Schilling is AMAZING, but other than him, the other 4 starters are somewhat spotty.
"why are you so confident that Michigan will have a GREAT offense?"
Because here at Michigan, we don't rebuild, we reload. When guys like Manningham, Hart, etc leave, new playmakers step in. In 2008 that won't be any different with Brown, Butler, Mathews, Junior Hemingway, and Brandon Minor
"especially when utah (who is a better team this year) gets you off to a bad start."
Utha is from the shitty ass MWC, and yet they went only 9-4 last year. Thats the equivilant of 6-7 in a BCS conference like the Big ten. The big ten is not the same conference is used to be, but its alot better then the MWC. Utah has no defense, a so-so offense aside from Darrell mack, and the game is at the Big house. Michigan will smoke the Utes by 3 TD's
trumansalvsi u are a traditonal msu fan when we beat ur ass in football all the damn time u always turn to basketball were talking about football not basketball ass wipe
Aaaaaaaaaaargh....Penn State. I'm so sick of them sucking it up against Michigan. Geez. 9 losses in a row! Are you kidding? Joe Pa should have been fired after the first 3 or 4! What the F*** are they thinking?????? If PSU doesn't beat Rich Fraudriguez this year, that should be an automatic "you're fired Joe Pa". GO BUCKEYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michigan doesn't have the offense to put up a bunch of points week in and week out. Yes their D will be top 3 or so in the big 10, but they'll be on the field for so long tht theyll get tired (cuz the O will not be tht productive) leading to points for the opposition.
108,000+ fans, WHITE OUT, YOUNG-FRESHMAN QB, A WHOLE NEW LINE BEING REPLACED, NEW RB, NEW WR's, EXPERIENCED D LINE and LB's 4 PSU=PSU convincing win.
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Michigan losses this game. However, the Nittney lions never have an answer for our running game, and now that they have lost Sean lee for the season, 2008 will be no different.
Our defense has put the clamps on their offense the last two years, and now they lose Rodney Kinlaw and Anthony Morelli, while we return most of our defense, so again, 2008 will be no different. Not to mention we've won 9 straight against them overall, including 4 straight at Happy Valley. we are in their heads, and we will continue to be in 2008. Michigan will gut out a close victory in this game.
Until further notice, Michigan has NO offensive line, Clark WILL be a better QB than Morelli (everyone says so), better passer and more mobile.
U guys r young, n the crowd can very easily get to your young and inexperienced offense.
What makes no sense Dan is how you lose pretty much everyone on offense, and some key guys on defense and you think Michigan is gunna BE AMAZING AND GREAT and have 10 wins.
I don't fear Clark, and neither do the Wolverines. We knocked his ass out two years ago.
And we aren't "young," even on offense. Are top players on offense (Carlos Brown, Carson Butler, and Greg Mathews) are all juniors with lots of experience. Of our 11 starters on offense, 7 of them are juniors.
And i've told you already, we ahve a terrific defense, an easy schedule, and we have Brown, Butler, etc on offense. We will win at least 10 games
Once again I am wrong. That doesn't change my mind about this year though. Considering you lost jut about everyone one your team including your coach we have a decent chance. And even if we don't beat you we still will kill u guys on the basketball court. When was the last time you made it to the tournament? Not in a long time. I do believe MSU made it to a bowl game this year. ANd even though we lost its still as appearance. Oh and I would like to congratulate on not even making the NIT.
"That doesn't change my mind about this year though. Considering you lost jut about everyone one your team including your coach we have a decent chance"
If the game was at Spartan Stadium, you would have a "decent chance." But the game is at the Big House, so that means you have "no chance." And if you want to talk Michigan basketball, just remember that in 2007-2008, the entire team was composed of freshmen and sophomores. We had no experience.
Is this seriously making fun of Michigans basketball team? HAHA, thats like making fun of a bunch of mentally challenged kids, Michigans Basketball team is awful. Your only making yourself look bad by talking smack about them.
Michigan put on a great defensive performance in this game, stuffing Penn States runninggame and getting constand pressure on Anthony Morelli. With 7 of 11 starters back on defense, and with Morelli, Rodney Kinlaw, and Austin Scott graduating, I think Michigan's defense will again put the clamps down on the Nittney lions offense, and I think Michigan will surprise everybody by winning for the 10th straight time against Penn State.
I also think that Michigans running game-with Carlos Brown, Brandon Minor, and Kevin Grady leading the way-will once again put up big yardage against Penn State, especially now that the Nittney lions have lost Sean Lee for the season. Penn State is certainly due for a victory against Michigan, but then again, so are alot of teams (read: Notre Dame, Michigan State, Minnesota, Purdue, and illinois). Michigan ain't going to lose those 5 games, and they won't lose to PSU either.
Darryl Clark and Evan Royster will certainly fill in adequately for Morelli and Scott. But why should i or the michigan defense fear Clark or Royster? We knocked Clark out of the game in 2006 for crying out loud, and more importantly, we return 7 of 11 starters on defense. We've held PSU to only 19 points combined the last two seasons, and we will put the clamps on them again in 2008. Combine that with our runningame, and the Wolveriens will beat the Nittney lions.
Sorry, but I think you're going to have to wait a little bit on that. I see at least a temporary break in Michigan's winning over Penn State in 2008. Eventually, this should become like the rivalry with Ohio State, where Penn State has a tough time winning in the Horseshoe, but the Buckeyes have a tough time winning in Happy Valley. I know the Buckeyes won 37-17 last year, but I think intimidation played a factor. I see a winning season for Michigan, but only one or two wins over ranked teams.
psu will not beat michigan this year. they didn't even make michigan the night game cuz they know that if they play illinois at night they will have a better chance at restoring the prestige to night games in crappy valley
If Illinois is a night game, then that may or may not make the difference for Penn State. Before Sean Lee was injured, I saw Penn State beating Illinois in a "hanging-on-for-dear-life" victory, but now I see Illinois winning in a rout. Illinois is a great team and it will show in 2008. I think the Michigan game will look like the Wisconsin game. Penn State typically wins homecoming games big (except for the 4-6 loss to Iowa in 2004, but that's just something I'd like to forget).
"08pooled, michigan also has junior hemmingway, and he's supposed to be pretty good."
Oh ye. Absolutely. i'm one of Hemingway's biggest fans. he's got great speed, ctaches everything, and has good height (6'3). He'll be a true sophomore in 2008, and I think he will thrive as the starter opposite Greg Mathews.
Not to mention we will have 4 star prospect Toney Clemons-a true sophomore-in the slot. Our receivers will rule in 2008.
"We'll be too fast for defenses. the only defenses that will give the spread offense trouble in the big 10 will be illinois, ohio state, penn state and quite possibly michigan state."
The only Big ten team who can stop our spread offense next year is possibly Penn state. LSU, Florida, and illinois showed how good Ohio State is at defending spread offenses.
"and terrell pryor with a solid recruiting class, and a future hall of fame coach to top it off."
Exactly. Manningham and Arrington left early, but we still have Greg Mathews, Carson Butler, and Carlos Brown back. Pryor will be a really good player at Michigan if he comes here.
I don't think Michigan will loose to penn State in 2008. I think the Wolverines will go 11-2 and win the Big ten outright.
we will win it in style with the spread offense of course!
We'll be too fast for defenses. the only defenses that will give the spread offense trouble in the big 10 will be illinois, ohio state, penn state and quite possibly michigan state.
Possibly, but what will they beat OSU? I'm DYING for a win over OSU, I mean 1-6 in the last 7 years and the humiliation coming with that is unbearable.
Michigan's best game in recent years against Ohio State is the underrated team that led 21-19 until the final seconds in 2005, when Ohio State scored a touchdown and failed a 2 point conversion to make the score 25-21 in the closing seconds.
are you sure? cuz im pretty possitive that it was in '03 when O$u was ranked #2 and Michigan was #9 and we took the big ten crown from them...yeah it was 03
Not to take anything away from Michigan's win over Ohio State, but they were a little overrated that year. They were 1 point and one play away from being beaten by a 3-9 Penn State team. The 2003 and 2004 Michigan teams were good teams, and if they weren't taken off of Penn State's rotation for those two years, it'd likely be an 11-game winning streak instead of a 9-game winning streak barring some freak occurance by the 4-7 2004 PSU team that held everyone to 21 points or less.
He was better than Zack Mills, though. I know Mills was great in 2001, but 2002-2004 his tendonitis from that Virginia game diminished his throwing ability.
Finally, please do not compare Michigan to Notre Dame in the context that you did. Michigan lost all of their good players on defense from 2006 and went 9-4 and beat Florida in the capital One Bowl (and 9-4 is STILL considered by fans like me a massive dissapointment). ND, on the other hand, lost all of their good players on offense and collapsed. Michigan dosn't collapse, Michigan reloads.
Also, Michigan will hardly be "young" next year. 7 of the 11 starters on defense will be seniors, and assuming Manningham is back (which he very well might not be), 9 of the 11 starters on offense will be at least juniors. Then in the special teams, our kicker is a senior, our punter a junior, and our punt returner a junior.
I'm pretty sure they were healthy this year, but even so, they loose Dan Connor, Anthony Morelli, Rodney Kinlaw, and Austin Scott. There receivers are awesome, but they've never had big games against Michigan. I don't really feel threatened by them.
"Michigan will be adjusting to a new coach, losing most of its star players"
The only star players who Michigan looses are Henne, Hart, and Long. 8 of 11 return on defense, 7 of 11 on offense, and everybody on special teams (the offense is 6 of 11 if manningham leaves). Plus, adjusting to Rich Rodriguez will take no time.
Michigan owns alot of teams right now (Michigan State, Minnesota, Penn State, Northwestern, Iowa, Notre Dame), but yet, for all that, Ohio State owns us. What a cryin shame.
Oh well. We should win our fifth straight in Happy Valley nexy season, and our 10th straight overall against PSU.
I don't think so. Michigan will be adjusting to a new coach, losing most of its star players, and playing in Happy Valley. Penn State will have most of its star players. A healthy Penn State in Beaver Stadium will overwhelm a young Michigan team. Look at 2006 and 2007's Notre Dame teams against Penn State. 41-17 ND last year, 31-10 PSU this year.
Most of the forward progress looks like it was due to a passing game. If I'm not mistaken, didn't Penn State hold Michigan to something like -3 rushing yards even though Michigan won with two touchdowns?
Actually last year's game and this year's game were closer than the scoreboard. Last year's Michigan vs PSU game could have easily been 20-17 PSU if a few things went differently, and this year could have been 17-7 PSU.
heres the deal. MSU wasnt supposed to have won as many games as they have so far. AND all that matters is that MSU will beat UofM in East Lansing. Michigan will be embarrassed on national TV. Yet since you Michigan fans are so darn arrogant and cocky you'll probably blame your loss on the clock like before...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You were ranked 5th in the nation preseason yet lost 2 straight games at HOME-one to a D-1AA school. Therefore the win wasn't that big especially since Illinois beat PSU next week. MSU is 4-1 as of right now, going to be 6-1 after playing Northwestern and IU. Michigan and Michigan State will have similar records coming into East LAnsing. MSU will finally beat Michigan and will win the rest of their games. Michigan on the other hand will lose out to OSU and WIsconsin.
Hmmm probably Michigan's running back. Now who is the main running back for them again? I remember him cause he's like an organ in your body...Mike Liver...Mike Spleen...Mike....oh yea! MIKE HART!

Oh ye. Absolutely. i'm one of Hemingway's biggest fans. he's got great speed, ctaches everything, and has good height (6'3).

08pooled 4 years ago
we will win it in style with the spread offense of course!

Possibly, but what will they beat OSU? I'm DYING for a win over OSU, I mean 1-6 in the last 7 years and the humiliation coming with that is unbearable.
rjfrjf65 4 years ago
its gonna happen. We could easily have beat OSU in any of the last 4 years

Michigan's best game in recent years against Ohio State is the underrated team that led 21-19 until the final seconds in 2005, when Ohio State scored a touchdown and failed a 2 point conversion to make the score 25-21 in the closing seconds.
MVillani1985 4 years ago
are you sure? cuz im pretty possitive that it was in '03 when O$u was ranked #2 and Michigan was #9 and we took the big ten crown from them...yeah it was 03
MGoblue56 3 years ago

Reloads DIAA style! No, it collapses..

08pooled 4 years ago
Also, Michigan will hardly be "young" next year. 7 of the 11 starters on defense will be seniors, and assuming Manningham is back (which he very well might not be), 9 of the 11 starters on offense will be at least juniors. Then in the special teams, our kicker is a senior, our punter a junior, and our punt returner a junior.

"Penn State will have most of its star players"
I'm pretty sure they were healthy this year, but even so, they loose Dan Connor, Anthony Morelli, Rodney Kinlaw, and Austin Scott. There receivers are awesome, but they've never had big games against Michigan. I don't really feel threatened by them.
08pooled 4 years ago

08pooled 4 years ago
I don't think so. Michigan will be adjusting to a new coach, losing most of its star players, and playing in Happy Valley. Penn State will have most of its star players. A healthy Penn State in Beaver Stadium will overwhelm a young Michigan team. Look at 2006 and 2007's Notre Dame teams against Penn State. 41-17 ND last year, 31-10 PSU this year.
MVillani1985 4 years ago
Most of the forward progress looks like it was due to a passing game. If I'm not mistaken, didn't Penn State hold Michigan to something like -3 rushing yards even though Michigan won with two touchdowns?
MVillani1985 4 years ago
You are mistaken. Mike Hart had 153 yards rushing
lilkoury 4 years ago
I meant the team overall, with the negative yardage mostly coming from sacks.
MVillani1985 4 years ago
Michigan rushing yardage: 56 rushes for 166 yards.
Nowhere near -3, lol

Ok, I was wrong, but I do know the scoreboard tells a different story from what I saw on the field
MVillani1985 4 years ago
Don't forget that Gingell (who was replaced not long after, and who lost us the Appy game) missed two kicks under 35 yards.
Aylafanandre 4 years ago
no i think that was last year...
buckah1234 4 years ago
Actually last year's game and this year's game were closer than the scoreboard. Last year's Michigan vs PSU game could have easily been 20-17 PSU if a few things went differently, and this year could have been 17-7 PSU.

truman will have to wait another two years to sound like an idiot...cuz his team lost again :( LOL GO BLUE! no one can touch Mike Hart in the Big Ten

really? is that why it took Ringer two and 1/2 more games then Hart to get 6 more yards then him?
Hart 7 games - 1,078 yards
Ringer 9 games - 1,084 yards

You seem a little cocky there saying Michigan will be embarrassed on national TV to the Spartans.
dieseljr32 4 years ago 3
heres the deal.
