i have a general question, i am thinking of getting a short ram intake as well, do you actually require the metal piping or you can just get the filer and heat shield and it would work just as well? please help me on this
you must not know anything about a cars engine, If you want that turbo to make a large difference compared to a naturally aspirated engine, you would be smart, not be a stuborn ass, and put a cold air intake on. A turbo charger compresses the air before the compression stroke in the cylinder so more air can fit into the cylinder causing a larger combustion, hot air expands, cold air contracts, so you could fit even more air in, making the turbo much better, think about it next time.
due to a more complete burning of fuel. Users with forced induction engines often opt for short ram intakes because compressors adjacent to the engine, especially turbochargers, heat the incoming air and negate much of the benefits of a cold air intake."
@1kodyrobert0 ya i have a 1.8 t, havin a hard time finding one that will suck air from below (long arm i guess you would call it) to reach under where the battery is
this is for bwmacp2006 it should help him get his facts straight "To counter intake heat problems, many short ram intakes include some form of heat shield. Moving the intake inlet port further away from the engine block will also help to alleviate the problem and some users use a cold air intake where the inlet air is at or close to ambient temperature. However, others claim that Short Ram Intakes or similar Warm Air Intakes offer benefits over Cold Air Intakes which include better MPG
@jdmguy03 definitly not u fucking retard. a tuner is a well built, pricey, over seas sports car. a ricer is a over sea car with big ugly body kits and annoying mufflers like hondas, corollas, etc
@jdmguy03 Naa not really. Euro tuners are way different the Jap Ricers. Ricers are those crappy toy cars you see on the road with those shit can mufflers that do nothing but make noise. A tuners are those Volkswagons or Audis that look nice, sound good, and actually have power behind them to begin with. Thats the difference.
@Fromero5400 Nice reply.. I didnt mean it in that sense. Actually I shouldnt have dipped my hands in this topic at all. I had an 92 EF9 about 3 years ago but I got rid of it and I currently own a 02' jetta 1.8t and I was checking out this vid for ideas. @ina04gli18t Jettas have a snorkle that are inside the fender that gets air from outside, so to be honest, they already have a "cold air intake" off the factory floor.
@ina04gli18t if you didn't know, cold air intakes aren't better because of the cold air. The tube is longer so it creates more torque. If you create a shorter tube, the power is on the higher rpms. the temperature of air has a minimal effect. "cold air" intake is an advertising gimmick.
bwmacp2006...your a fuckin dumbass first off volkswagens are not ricers, there German.
and 2nd an intake lets your engine suck in alot more air flow and it filters out dirt and shit alot better then a stock intake. Even if he has a turbo it still keeps the engine cooler and clean. its not all about the power learn your shit... YOUR THE DUMB RICER
@SHARP4892 i have a general question, i am thinking of getting a short ram intake as well, do you actually require the metal piping or you can just get the filer and heat shield and it would work just as well? please help me on this
bwm You're a fucking moron. COLD AIR are DYNOed and shows how they increase aiflow, and in fact sometimes they even give you better gas mileage. and don't say that VW's are Ricers...RICE is Japanese...VWs are German you just got schooled in Geography and Car performance...Go fuck yourself man
Dude, I have a 3.7 GPA.I know they are german. I'm going to school to be a doctor. And your a cashier at...Walmart?
FTW, i have a jetta. A 1.8t. Its a piece of shit. Everything breaks in that car. EVERYTHING. there goes a waste of 12,000.00 And a cold air intake IS virtually useless when you have a turbo charger, your already getting cold forced induction, you might just get a TINY bit colder air. Besides that, most turbos have limiters on how much air gets forced into the engine. Jesus. Idiots
And your going to school to be a doctor? And you're talking down to people about cars...seriously, your teeth to the curb, my foot on the back of your head. Kill yourself.
And the reason your Jetta breaks is probably because you're a fucking dumbass and didn't do any research on the car before buying it.
MKIV's we're assembled in 3 different countries, Germany, Brazil and Mexico. The MKIV's that were assembled in Mexico were notorious for having plagues of problems with the electronics, the transmissions and other things.
Your stupid ass probably didn't bother to check where your Jetta was assembled, and thus, you're stuck with a lemon.
Um, your foot? I'm also a second degree brown belt in jiu jitsu. I train in beachwood ohio. Come say that to my face.
Yes, i had ALOT of electrical problems and powertrain. I put 4000 into the car.
But now i have an Infiniti G35 coupe.
Just because i'm going to school to be a doctor automatically gives you the right to tell me i don't know anything about cars? right. That makes sense. Thats why you work at walmart homeboy.
I actually teach teach at Rutgers University; the same college I graduated from. Obviously you don't know how to do any research before opening your mouth in addition to not knowing jack shit about cars.
t's not that you go to school and ATTEMPTING to be a doctor that gives me the right to tell you you don't know shit about cars, it's the fact that you're a fucking moron that gives me the right to tell you you don't know shit about cars. It makes perfect sense

I probably will never have to work until I'm out of college. So i'll keep smoking pieces of shit like you on the road with my coupe. Don't hate on me because i'm rich.
Just don't go crying to daddy when I spank you infront of everyone.
lol, the only way you'll get out of college, is when you flunk out. Don't kid yourself, your attitude reflects the 60% of college students that flunk out because they don't know how to work for things because they only know how to get shit handed to them
I don't hate you cause you're rich, because your not. Your daddy's rich, you're just riding his coat tails, like the little parasite you are....you're worthless.
It's not even a cold air intake you stupid cunt, it's SHORT- RAM INTAKE. Which is ideal for turbocharged cars because it doesn't pull as much cold air, the air is still relatively warm. Which allows the engine to still gain alittle bit of pull.Get your facts straight before you go bashing other people's shit you fucking tool.
Don't believe me? I'll send you the results from when I dynoed my '05 1.8t gti. I was running 180 stock, after I installed the intake it read 185whp.
