  • this is good practice for when you are serving with the sun on your face .

  • its amazing how darkulie actually could be bothered recording this, putting it on his computer, editing it and putting it on youtube for more dislikes then likes.....lol

  • Fed is GOAT. He can sense where the ball is.

  • He doesn't need to see the ball, it just puts itself in the path of his racquet

  • This is "timing" practice...

  • zen serve!

  • Why isit Lopez vs Querrey?

  • When you're serving, you don't have to look at the ball, cause you already know where it is going to. Throwing up the ball already means serving.........

  • Is that how we should do it too?

  • HE is a GOAT!!

  • this is one instance...

  • He's hit the same serve a million times, so why bother look =]

  • I would be to scared to serve blind I would miss it completely lol

  • maybe he ate too much Chinese food

  • @BrewokGanas usually he eats only burgers?

  • honestly, if you're at the level federer is, he probably doesn't need to look to hit his serve.

  • @whomad1215 correct, but i think even your experience is just about 1year you can serve without looking at the ball while it's it the mid of the air

  • its in slow motion so he could just be blinking

  • Jizz in my pantss

  • FAKE && GAY

  • I think everybody can do this while practice serving...

Maybe he was trying something new...

  • you know, that would make sense why the bright sun doesn't bother them! heh. anyways, this is a great video to study the mechanics of the serve, which is what i was looking for, so thanks!

  • but did it go in?

  • I'm a good college player who has trained with very good players and I promise all of you that Federer does not normally close his eyes during his serve. Who knows why he did it here, but good players watch the ball while they hit it.

  • @danteblaze14 im actually a profession blind tennis player and i compete in the special olympics so your lying

  • @bmxergreg I am familiar with blind tennis and I have a tremendous ammount of respect for the athletes who play it, including yourself. Please forgive me for neglecting the sight-impaired athletes who play tennis when I said, "good players watch the ball while they hit it."

However, this statement is not a lie. Roger Federer and all of the other ATP and WTA players watch the ball when they serve. This video clip is an abberation where he blinked or closed his eyes because he was practicing

  • @danteblaze14 well i cant even see what your coment says because i am blind

  • @bmxergreg ...if you were blind and wanted to comment on videos you couldn't watch you would probably have a program that read the text to you... but it's clear that you are just joking about being blind so let's just drop it, shall we? You can type "blind tennis" in to the search bar and check out some players who actually do what you jokingly claimed to do.

  • @lilrobo333

im talking about right after contact retard. im an all state baseball myself, I understand you dont just close your eyes and hope for the best, thank you

  • record yourself making a serve ...

  • Important parts of a good consistent serve are ball toss, swing motion, and tempo. Roger has all these down pat, so he can pretty much do it with his eyes closed. Think of violins. They don't have frets like guitars, but after years of practice a violinist can play all the right notes with his/her eyes closed. Muscle memory.

  • think about it, u always close your eyes when you exert yourself in a rapid movement. same with a gold swing a baseball swing

  • @soxnation3419 lol if you think baseball player's close their eyes while swinging at a 98 mph fastball... well you sir are very much mistaken

  • I think everybody closes his eyes when serving... after.... dunno, 2 months of practice you'll start to feel when the ball goes in or not, you don't need to see it when you hit..... and fed's got ages of serving, so....

  • Hes blinking if not why didnt you show us the video at normal speed and then a slowmotion version ?

  • Federer thoughts: "Psht, i can ace you with my eyes closed." -- MLA

  • The serve was so fast and intense he didn't have time to finish blinking :o

  • it's the sun.

  • they can feel the ball better while he closed his eyes

  • bull shit.. federer has small eyes and in the middle of the serve it seems that they are closed when actually theyre not.. if you dont believe me then youtube any asian players serving and youd realize that they all serve with their eyes CLOSED ! :P

  • @shazzyyV THAT IS SO RACIST! I'm asian but my eyes are huge okay? Geez. Don't generalize.

  • @4ever4minute hey sorry man it didnt came out the way i intended it to.. but i hope you get my point though

  • They do that to practice a flawless toss.

  • i think he does that for the feel and motion. thats wat makes his serve so good! its so repetitive because he feels his motions and knows when exactly the ball come down. very practice. no wonder his the best tennis player in the world :D

  • OMG! It´s true!!!

  • Drakulie, are you from Talk Tennis? I think I've read your posts a few years ago. The tennis yoda avatar? No?

  • Paul annacone said himself that a the key to a good serve is a consistent service toss. He also said that if your toss is the same every time, it should be no problem hitting a serve blindfolded. I'm assuming federer is able to do that, and most atp tour pros for that matter.

  • it's like michael jordan taking a free throw

  • I think this was his way of testing his serve. When you fundamentals are sound, you don't really need to see the ball, it just happens. When I get to the point where my serve is this relaxed and fluid, I will be closing my eyes also. It's like Michael Jordan closing his eyes during free throws. To these guys, it like picking your nose.

Amazing how relaxed pros can be while serving and hitting.

  • I sometimes do that.

  • it's the same thing when you play with sun in eyes

  • I think it has been shown that Federer does in fact sometimes close his eyes while hitting through the ball in some matches.

I think there is a video from Wimbledon that shows this even.

  • Comment removed

  • His eyes aren't really closed. He's actually Asian.

  • lol seriously? he could be blinking =.=

  • @jasonjohn7

That would make it the longest blink in history.

  • @drakulie lol yea ok. like you blink once only when you replied me

  • @drakulie its slow motion...so no not rly

  • @drakulie It's in slow motion...

    Ridiculous.

  • @jasonjohn7 haha no they're closed i think because he cannot even change after having decided what serve hes gonna bring. correct me if wrong:)

hes just so good he can serve without watching xD

  • this is true, when i would practice this back then in college to increase my consistency on my service toss as well as motion. It helped a lot to be able to do this with the sun in your eyes.

  • now that is true muscle memory

  • wow , he doesnt need eyes , he can sense and hear the ball talking to him in the air telling him where to aim with his racket

  • Really shows you how much this guy practices.

  • maybe he practices with his eyes closed for when he serves in the sun and if the balls in the blind spot he wont have to worry about it.

  • Drak, were you there when he did it? Just wondering lol.

  • @Anaconda43VR

Yes, I was there and am the one who recorded the video you are watching. As I said, he was practicing with his eyes closed.

  • Oh don't worry, i'm not questioning whether his eyes where closed, i watched the video. I'm sure guys like Roddick and Karlovic could serve with their eyes closed.

  • @drakulie

    soo........?

  • Roger is classic great player

  • i think he just blinks naturally :p

  • @vincentbadminton No, he was practciing his serve for a few minutes with his eyes closed. Read the description.

  • @drakulie he does the sam during his matches, a slow mo during the aussie open shows that his eyes are closed a fraction before, during and after contact.

  • @vincentbadminton

he was practicing with his eyes closed from the time he tossed, to after contac. He was doing this over and over for a few minutes. What are you failing to understand?

  • @drakulie no he wasn't, stop lying. no tennis player would ever do this, there is no point. don't respond back to me or i ll rape your kids. have a nice day.

  • @drakulie lol what's with the defensive mindedness? he's just stating what he thinks

  • Damn that's crazy!
