Nah that's not weird, that means you're perceptive! Billy Joel's a lovely writer, but I think he's a somewhat mediocre singer. He's even said he really doesn't enjoy writing lyrics, so he's more about music than what is carried on the music, how the music is approached with words, and hence, the voice.

His air of mediocrity is what makes him more fun to listen to sometimes, especially with stuff like 'The Longest Time', so its not a total loss...

and yeah this is just me ramblin'.

But the way he sings it - like he's a weary old man passing on wisdom - is something I haven't seen matched (and, if I can make a criticism of your rendition, something I feel is missing in yours).
