  • @heartofglass120 Haha, I know Clem, great guy!. He raced with my parents @ Dover and I see him at Lebanon Valley all the time. I was talking to himlate this fall and it ends up we live within 2 miles of each other. He tells me "stop by, I'm the house after the deli--if you see a bunch of GM's in the driveway....you got the wrong place!"

  • I am also Clem Lachance's granddaughter. Last week he was inducted into the drag racing hall of fame in Henderson, NC. It was great to see his car and trophies on display on the streets of Henderson and to see how proud and honored he was to be there. It was also amazing to see my 79 year old grandfather doing what he loves speeding by every car at the drag strip in Roxboro :) Congrats pep, I couldn't be more proud of you!

  • Thats my grandfather and Yes he still owns it... It's been in the family since before I was born and I grew up watching this car race... Oh the days of waking up to the whole house shaking lol... It's good to see it on youtube :-)

  • I've seen under the hood about ten years ago and I'm pretty sure it had some kind of aluminum Cleavland head. Like someone had taken two V-8 heads, cut them and welded them together to make one long Cleavland style head. And I know some of those heads had large good flowing ports.

  • Great car. I know because I built it in 1974 and have pictures from 1975 Gatornationals and Englishtown newpapers. Also have pix of engine on our dyno and time slips showing 11.29 et at 119 mph back in 1975. Sold it to Clem in 1978 and am thrilled that car is still alive. Won't divulge the one key secret to the engine's performance though. Just between Clem and me! Saw car was for sale in 2008 so not sure if Clem still owns it.

  • i can't believe you're going to hold out on us. c'mon you gotta give us the secret!

  • Here is a clue. The 300ci six has big block Chevy size cylinders (4"x4") fed thru peewee size intake ports. Even with a huge cam (320 duration at 0.020 lift) and 0.688 valve lift the horsepower peaked way too low (around 5800 rpm) to be very useful. Needed it up in the mid 6000 range to launch car well and pull hard at the finish line. Needed to do something with the cam to make the cylinder "think" it had more intake duration. Love to reveal the answer out of room on the post. Sorry.

  • Gotta love the 300ci inline6 powered maverick!!
