Then there's how the institution handles abusers.

But in the midst of satire, it's good for the consumer to pause a moment to acknowledge that we should judge each priest on his own moral merits as an individual, so as to not become unjust bigots.

This is horrible and offensive. I am Catholic, but not blindly. I've known victim and survivors of this sort of sexual abuse, as well as others, and I've known priests who have committed these crimes. There's no great scheme to allow the continuence of such offenses or to hide the criminals. They are sick men who need help, but instead hide themselves in the clergy. Our system doesn't help them, they abuse it as much as they abuse the innocent children.

I have a theory that religion was created one day(when humanity was still in it's kindergarten stage) when someone who was reasonably crafty but wasn't the alpha wanted to be in power. Why are there people arguing?
Many priests have been found to have raped children and it has been proven that the Church tried to cover it up. They protected pedophiles and moved them around rather than solving the problem by reporting them to the police. Of course people are going to attack the Church. I have a theory that religion was created one day(when humanity was still in it's kindergarten stage) when someone who was reasonably crafty but wasn't the alpha wanted to be in power. Having brains instead of muscles he decided to make up gods to explain everything they couldn't understand. By claiming to represent the gods, thus working off of his people's fear of the unknown, he got everyone to follow him. From there it likely spread.

Any clergy members in the Catholic Church found guilty of sexual abuse, or any abuse of that matter, are indeed revoked of their position. It is the same with any regular person: if you found guilty, you become a registered sex offender, go to jail, etc.
No matter where you go, there are abuses and there are abuses covered up everyday. It seems that all that the media and society want to do nowadays is attack the Church.
