Bad fuckin ass bro, if you live in central Texas I will pay you to teach me that shit, I will already learn some of it just from the video. What pedal are you using for the solo
Cool! I have digital amp for now since I move houses every year or sot and am afraid to break the tubes of a proper one . (on a Roland cube 60 now...) but I have LP Standard pro and a bunch of boss effects pedals. When you mention the equalizer on/off, how do you set up the high, medium and lows. And also how is that set up on your amp? Scooping the mids?
@theandredgex I'm running a 1980 les paul custom through a Diezel Herbert sitting on a mesa boogie 4x12 recto cabinet. Adam uses 2 Diezel VH4's and a Marshall JMP at the same time, as well as other amps the studio had when they were recording. You're only going to get close with a heavy guitar and a very nice tube amp distortion. What kinda of set up do you have?
hey really great cover man on such an epic long song., nice explantions on your tones and pedals, thanx for posting all of these vids. Never seen this channel before, really well done. your set up sounds pretty unreal
The solo is actually played all on the D string and 6;01 - 6:50, 8:13 - 8:37, and 9:39 - 9:51 you shouldn't be anchoring your pointer finger on the 10th and 3rd fret like. It sounds kind of off because the other strings are sounding as you're ascending. A lot of videos show Adam moving up and down the strings, not anchoring. so he's also doing a pulloff 10p0 on that part, not the hammer on h12 like you're doing. Other then that, good job man.
I cant figure out how to play the fast part at 06:10 , the tabs say 10h12 on D, 10h12 on A, then 10 on D. Sounds close, but watching your video I can tell its lacking an extra arpeggio. I just cant place it D:
at 3:00, right after the big breakdown, its exactly 17 eighth notes of rest before he goes into the interlude (just fyi if you didnt know); great tone, great cover though still
hey what are you lows mids and highs set on your amp and what are you playing threw...fantastic btw, haha and its hard not to let your mind wonder listening to tool! x)
Simply brilliant. Very good job...I'd bet your fingers can get tired as hell playing Tool songs just because they're so long. I'll definitely be watching some of your other covers.
@MrKyel17 Its not as strenuous to play tool as it is to play stuff like Lamb of God ! One of the main problems with Tool is you tend to drift off because of the song length and its repetitive/progressive nature! this is probably what the uploader meant by "Not one to play with a wandering mind". You got to be completely focused and into what you are playing or you'll be left standing like fool forgetting which part of the song you are playing :P
@attu89 Yeah I can see how "drifting off" would be a problem with something like Tool. Not only are their songs long and usually a bit repetitive, but their time signatures are so irregular and change so often mid-song that it could also be hard to keep rhythm sometimes. Also, now that I think about it, it WOULD be more strenuous/difficult to play things like Lamb of God :P
@MrKyel17 Lamb of God songs are pretty straight forward staccato playing, just requires a lot of stamina for triplets, Tool is more about ambience (which I think is harder to achieve well) and drop dead heavy riffs. Both are good, I like LoG too, but Tool takes it. Just my opinion though.
No disrespect to your covers, they are good...but if you can play these, I wanna see what you can do on your own! I mean that's what Tool would want too!
Hey man, just want to say that I have been watching your videos for the past couple of years, since I started playing guitar and you are awesome! I use your tabs on tooltabs.net and was wondering if you are going to post rosetta stoned on it anytime soon?
Wow, awesome job. You can't even tell the difference from the original. Before I started watching covers on Youtube, I never realized how intense the music on 10,000 Days (the album) was. The band just gets better and better. And you rocked this!
Nice work bra. Words cant describe how amazing that cover is. Im currently saving up for custom silverburst. Have the money for a re-issue. But really want to hold out till i come across a nice vintage one. Notice you have had both. Your thought would be much appreciated.
@TheShorty0ne I'll take a guess and assume you're talking about the yellowing with age thing? Yes it can be avoided if you can go back in time and keep the guitar in a case all the time so the nitro finish doesn't come in contact with the elements. Other than that no. If you have a newer gibson then don't fret (lol) they dont have the nitro finish, and are therefore less prone to yellowing.
And i thought we wouldnt see any more amazing playing .... once again i stand correctly thankfully ... great job opiate ...i been watching since the beginning .. keep up the good work man.. u inspire me
bro...at 2:32 why did you play it like that? Just wondering. Definitely a 5h7...saw Adam and Justin both do it live. I think you even did it on your old video. ??
Come here just to see what the new vid of Rosetta stoned was like, well played as always. No surpises, surprise is with something ironic, a parody perhaps?
An incredibly stupid post from a very bored individual, but in all seriousness....Well played.
yes for the very beginning. Adam recorded the Rosetta solo with a pipe bomb mic to give it that sound, not a talkbox. It WAS just wah and delay filtered through that mic.
i decided to look up what a 'pipe bomb mic' was on google. all i typed in was just that...'pipe bomb mic', and who would have guessed that the majority of the first 10 hits came up with TOOL? ha. thanks for the info man.
no talkbox. if you read the interview with Joe Barisi he used a "pipe bomb" microphone which gave the solo a very unique sound. However live Jones just uses wah.
ya i read that long interview and remember something about using the pedal of a wah for the effect to have a volume set to be able to "breathe" the effect into his sound so u dont have 2 just simply click it on or off, musta missed the part where he said he used in in this song tho
It always just sounds off. This solo is based on extremely specific timing, and usually when he plays this live he improvs the timing to compensate for the extra volume swells he uses. I'm obviously as loyal as any hardcore fan, but I just really don't like the live solo.
i actually like it better live becuase he just holds the notes for as long as he wants, and still finishes on time, i really like how Danny tells him when each new bar or section is starting with his China, but yea apart from the timing, everything, even the feedback sound perfect to me
wow dude, after watching this i really want to go downstairs and dial the EQ more. but i doubt the tone will ever get as close as this, you're spot on with adam, flawless playing too. if you ever find the time to redo a rig demo.. :D
Holy fuckin' shit, man! That was rockin'! The last minute or two was sweeeet with all the pull-offs on the third fret. I gotta learn this song now. Are you playing with a JB in the bridge? And are you using the stock pots or did you put newer 500k's in there?
ah ok blah sorry I got my comments confused . Yeah it was nice, but it wasn't modded right. It didn't have enough gain to it. Anyway I don't see myself replacing it, as its even rediculous from MY standpoint to take both amps to shows , as my Diezel ALONE blows peoples ear drums out. It kinda helped the tone but not enough to be irreplaceable.
