  • Ok bit of an update no more gar in the tank, no plants and the logs are gone. The only fish are 2 pleco and 8 Buenos Aires tetras. But I have 5 IT's in a grow out with a nice syno decorus cat. I just got some Java fern and will be getting some driftwood with various types of Anubias attached here in the near future. I'm also going to get more low light plants soon to like crypts. The IT's are still only about 2" but by June I will have them in this tank. More updates as soon as I can.

  • by far the best basement ive seen yet.

  • Cool ass tank. I think the lake look would go good in the basement

  • wow looking good, what are you trying to turn the basement into?

  • where you buy the fish

  • LOL wow, big, are you going to use fertilizers for those plants? I highly recommend using them despite having to buy them all.

  • I was using liquid ferts and root tabs. I also updates the filtration and removed the sump. I have 2x FX-5's and might be adding a FBF as well. the FX's 5 actually give me better water flow than the previous filter and do a great job with the mechanical filtration.

  • Dont you guys use wet plaster systems over there like we do in the uk? I mean like plaster the walls?

  • not for nothing but other than the glass the rest of the tank is plywood and epoxy w/ silicone on the seems?

  • Yep its all plywood and epoxy. I used Silicone in the seams as a precaution.

  • what kind of cichlid is that

  • Satanoperca jurupari

  • i was wondering what type of epoxy you used and how u applied it to the plywood

  • Sweetwater epoxy from Aquatic Eco systems Inc. I just used a 1/4" nap roller to apply it to the plywood.

  • also i was wondering what the demensons of the tank is and how thick is your glass or acrylic?

  • Inside dimensions are 96"Lx48"Wx30"H Its 1/2" Tempered Glass.

  • No not worried about the roots. going through the epoxy coating.

  • forgot this last time, but, with the plants, in time wouldnt the roots go through the wood and the sealent you used? i mean if some can go through concrete (different species) these might do the same with the bottom of the tank.

  • dang, how do you vaccuum the gravel?

  • Thanks! I have to make a new video of the basement since its finally done. and I made a table in the back with my convict breeding set up for future gar feeding.

  • Very very very cool man. Props to you. I have a short nosed gar of my own, and I would love to do something like this. Great work.

  • An amazing piece of work! Please keep us updated!

  • Dude, you've inspired me to do the same. I'd like to have something similar but probably not as big. A whole community of different species including Discus, Cherry Barbs, German Blues, Neon Tetras ect.....
