  • Goebel had such a good look.

  • There is no doubt in my mind that Duke balked on purpose on th right lane. He wanted to plant a liitle doubt in Goebels head about sticking on the approach

  • @bchec I doubt it... If he wanted to balk on purpose... he would not have stepped into the lane. That unsure feeling of a release let alone a slide after a balk would not be worth it.

  • True Value dropped their sponsorship after this farce.

  • Probablly the first and only time someone used a bottom of the line gyro pro on tv

  • and go front 11 with it as well lol

  • wow 280 and lose? thats fucked up

  • Norm Duke and the "double balk!"

  • he grabbeddd itttt

  • I also wonder had Goebel had that perfect game and had won the additional $200,000 that he just might have been player of the year.

  • I taped this match on ABC-TV when I was 13 and it was a great match. Both Bowlers did great. I think that Goebel's last shot had a little less speed on it. I feel that if he had increased his speed, that he probably would have had the 300 game.

  • I've always wanted to see this match, thanks so much for posting! Unbelievable poise by Duke to pack in the 9th after those approach problems. Wish Goebel had more success than he had in his career.

  • simply Wow what a match!! thanx for posting this

  • I was looking for this myself. Even if I can't bowl anymore, I enjoy watching old clips. But I wonder if Duke's "non-foul" in his 9th frame affected Goebel on ball number 12...

  • I doubt it because he struck in the 10th and the 11th.

  • I think it was a cheap shot by Norm duke, he was trying to get goebel of balance there, it's an old trick some still use, not very sportive.

I wonder wat he would have done if walter ray did it when norm shot his perfect game.

  • Oh shut up. Norm Duke is 100 times the person and competitor than everyone out there. Norm wouldn't do that.

  • just think what it would've been like if it were 300-300

  • ah in case you didn't see it coz you lost your glasses he slipped over the foul line

  • He did not let go of the bal asshole... it's not a foul...

  • ah, i knew that fucknut, if its not off his hand its still legal

  • Obviously it's not you asshole.. This is real life, you are watching not a cartoon. If it were he would have been penalized... know it all...

  • You are an asshole sir

  • yea...i think Goebel was a better bowler then just the couple of titles hes won

    i loved this guy

  • XPS, you've NEVER seen Goebel before?? The guy is a hall of famer i believe..

  • Actually, Bryan isn't eligible yet. I think he's only got 4-5 titles. You need 10 to be on the PBA ballot. But he is a helluva bowler!

  • Goebel does have exactly 10 titles, but he hasn't been 'retired' for the required 5 years yet.

  • I don't believe you have to be a retired bowler to qualify for the PBA Hall of Fame. Guys like Walter Ray, Pete Weber, and other big names have been elected while still competing.

  • No, you do now. Norm Duke has 26 titles and isn't in yet (because he's still bowling).

  • THANK YOU for this. I've been looking for this tape everywhere in my attic but now I don't need to! :)

  • I was really hoping for Goebel to get the 200k bonus and that they beat the 579 two-player-total for one game. I had never seen Goebel before, he has a great style: athletic yet elegant. Those 299s, 300s and 800s throughout the tounament by Duke were pretty amazing also.

    Many thanks for the videos!
