  • what sort of glue did u use , and how much did it cost??

did this keep it stuck or did the tension of the strings break it??

  • @TheCharles4life

    I used tightbond carpenters glue

the guitar has never come back :)

  • "try listening slower" lmfao

  • Hey davey i love watchin the repairs its even better than re runs of this old house ;0)

In your opinion what is the best material to shim a bone bridge on a classical? I usually use veneer but have been recently told to use brass or aluminium. This doesnt sound quite right to me. Cheers.

  • do you have a video for complete refinish of an acoustic guitar? I purchased an EKO ranger 6 guitar with checking on entire finish, body and neck.

  • @dwdstring

    that's a huge job

over $100 in materials alone to do it right :)

  • You should talk faster

  • @mwojo403

    try listening slower

it will sound like i'm talkin faster

  • Do you recommend a vid where it shows a repair on a bridge & body that has been warped ??

  • @lozarok

if the bridge and body are warped it's DEAD

  • @davey4557 Do you know if there's a difference in tone between a belly up bridge and a belly down? I have a 1968 Gibson J-50 and mine was made with a belly down bridge. Before 68 they made them with the belly up bridge. My bridge has to be re-done either way so I'm wondering if I should leave it the way it was or switch to belly up. Ive heard some people say belly up sounds better but if its splitting hairs I'll just leave it so I dont see marks where its been reversed.

  • this guy's dry humor is hilarious!

  • whoa this guy has that "fargo" accent

  • ST. ELMO'S YALLER GLUE?

JB Weld would hold twice as good!

  • Are you Canadian? The vowel sounds make it likely. ;o)

  • for cheaper guitars Stew mac sells the JDL bridgedoctor.

I have not tried one but have been told it's an economical fix for guitars in a lower price range

  • Have you ever worked with mirrors and lights to replace a shattered bridge backer inside the guitar?

I threw a crap Epiphine AJ-100 in the creek last week that needed that aforementioned repair. Tech at the shop wouldn't even let me trade that Epi straight-up for a pack of strings for my electric. I curse all acoustics now!

  • Hey i have an old Montana guitar. Its pretty bad, but i was just wondering, is there a way i could fix the area around the bridge? it has bent out because of the pressure of the strings after years of playing

  • @dandan832

anything made by humans can be fixed by humans

It`s just time and money that get in the way :)

    Cheers !!!

some life may be left in it

    maybe not

they twist and warp and DRY OUT

the end of a guitar all dried out like an old whore

  • @davey4557 Haha, thanks man

  • Hey, any idea how much pressure you used on that glue up? Amount of turns on the clamps or how much back pressure as you tightened? Or was it the glue coming out all around the job? Did you use Elmers Yellow Wood Glue Brand? And any further prep on the two parts? Adhesive remover or just paper and what grit????

    Thanks for the help

  • @Davesintexas

Heavy grit 80 grit and I score the bridge with a rasp

    Clampimg pressure ?

as much as required to hold the bridge in place

    I never CRANK the clamps

    yes elmers yellow

    some say hide glue

I've never had a problem, but it may effect tone due to softness of the glue?

  • @davey4557 hey dude, what kind of glue would you recommend? just wood glue or something?

  • @thatsphreshish

i use elmer's yellow wood glue

  • As the Boss might call it: 10th Avenue Squeezeout!

  • Ever use a Fox Bridge Clamp? It works better and makes more sense. Try it, and you won't go back.

  • @guitartec

I need to save my pennies to get one of them babies !!!!

  • (2) BUT........I must admit....I have had problems with using hide glue......especially in humid weather

  • @inkey2

liquid hide glue or from a pot?

  • (1) The type of glue being used here definately will hold well....but.....the problem is, is that it will effect the tone. Normally a traditional animal hide glue is used on really expensive guitars because it dries hard and crisp (better tone).....where as the elmers type stays somewhat plyable and acts as a sound dampener.......BUT......

  • what's the tape on the inside hole for?

  • @acdc10133

So that I don't bump the finish placing the clamps in and out the sound hole

you check the clamp arrangement many times before gluing

  • ya, i got a dx1, bridge came right off when i bought it at the local pawn

  • a real education, many thanks for these vids

  • Where did you get your clamps Dave?

  • @windhorse61

they come from Stewart McDonald in the USA

  • Davey,

What kind of glue? And great info thx

    Lynnie

  • @sixraven

    Titebond or Elmers carpenter glue

It is slightly yellow not white

    Cheers !!!

  • way to go

    great stuff
