The game takes a while to get use to the controls and jumping. They aren't the best but for how old the game is, they are decent.
If it helps, if you have a 360 or PS3 controller, youtube or google on how to install a driver for either controller so you can use them for pc games. I just found this out about a week ago for my PS3 controller and it is pretty decent if you don't like the keyboard.
