I wish people would write more songs like this. I mean without a chorus. Actually tell a story instead of just repeating 3 verses about how you feel 20 times. I have nothing against a good chorus in a song but.... it would be nice to here a story like bards used to do.
Yes, this song, written and first recorded by Stephanie Davis, is a wonderful Christmas song (which has been covered by Aselin Debison and Garth Brooks and many others, including some excellent amateur renditions).
You can download Stephanie's own backup track (she's also a guitarist) and the sheet music free at her website. (Can't post links here, but just google her name.)
such a sad song ... love the pictures. they fit the story. a little too well. some times they fit so well it made me laugh. like "fed it loose corn from the market" and "fit for a king" i love this song. it makes me cry every time. it really touched my soul and changed my life.
If I could sing I would do this sing for special music at church! I just love this song!! I'm the annoying person calling in to the radio requesting this song everyday!!
Great song. I do think the lyric should be (just from a more sincere and realistic perspective)...instead of "open the door, let me see", it should be "open the door, set it free". Beautiful voice and song still.
The nightingale has truly the most beatutiful voice in nature, truly she has a voice fit for a king. And i personally think that Jesus is personified by the nightingale. He was a humble man, who's beauty and kindness inspired the world. I am personally not religious, but i do respect all religion and i think that Jesus was probably one of the most influential people ever to walk the earth.
idk why but this song always makes me cry. i love this song. every Christmas season i hope to hear it on the radio. thank you for posting this song. i would have never known the name of it.
This has got to be my favorite Christmas song ever, and every year i pray i hear it on the radio. i called it my "Maria Song" because I didn't know the title, artist, or all of the words. Now I finally know!
i listen to it all year not just x mas. it's the sweetest song of my religion i'll bring to my daughters school so they can sing at church service oh that will be so beautiful. i can not wait.all kids should know this song as good as silent night
Beautiful song. I first heard it as my cousin rocked her new baby to sleep one Christmas Eve. Tears came to my eyes as I listened to the words and felt the meaning. God bless us all!
